With the possiblity of when 2042 contracts expire Disney implementing 'Riviera style' restrictions on new contracts at those resorts, does that give anybody pause when considering a 2054 or 2060 resort? I know it's still a ways out, but options could potentially become very limited when that time rolls around.

It's almost (ALMOST) a certainty that all future resorts, including the replacements for the 2042, will have similar restrictions.

So yes and no. If you are happy with being limited to the o14 resorts for the next 21 years, then there is no reason to avoid resale. I wouldn't worry too much that you may be limited in the last 10-20 years of the contract.

On the other hand... If you want to always have access to the newest DVC resorts, not just in 2042. But Riviera now.. Disneyland Tower in a couple of years... Perhaps a new monorail DVC by the 2026ish... Then it should give you pause about buying re-sale. By 2030, there may realistically be 2-4 resorts where you can't use re-sale points. If that matters to you, then just stick to direct.

If you are worried about using points at any new resort, I like doing a mixture of resale and direct points. I've done half of each. I love AKL which is my resale contract and have the other half AKL direct to give a little flexibility in the future . I also did the direct points in small contracts over time so if I need to sell them I can get the most money and they are easy to sell

Too far away to consider for me, but also we've always been less picky about which resort we stay at. I feel privileged to just actually stay at a WDW resort. I do still have my original direct points at BLT if we really feel the urge to use it at a restricted resort.

Within the next 20 years, I hope to be able to sell my DVC contracts and not ride it on the way down, so not worry about what happens in 2042. Even if I don't, why worry right now, you still get to enjoy DVC, by than should have been able to try most DVC resort locations.

That's why the mantra of buy where you would stay is important. I have CCV , PVB , AKV and would not mind stayng at any one of these after 2042. Also is too far in advance to really worry.

My husband says I need to chill about getting another WDW DVC which goes past the AKV one in 2057 because we will be 68/70 by then and it’s so far away.

for me, I don’t want to be paying the prices which it probably be in 20 more years so thinking about now. Plus we don’t know how much into Disney our son will be so no clue whether we would want one to pass down to him

My guess is they will probably break up some of the resorts in that manner. Might make sense to keep some very strict (maybe a poly or VGF) and keep others with the ability to rotate reservations.

I think its kinda overblown, its 3 resorts at WDW. OKW I dont think will necessarily be a part of it, though it could be. Losing HHI and VB wont be a big blow to most people. Wont know for at least another decade what the plans for the 42s will be, and honestly not something to worry about unless you buy there.
