Have you ever "gotten" a long movie?

I've seen a few, but two have stood out for me -

2001: A Space Odyssey
Lawrence of Arabia

:)

I love big sweeping 3+ hour epics. David Lean directed 2 of my favorites: Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago, and his Bridge On The River Kwai was pretty close to 3 hours.

love the first 2, not a fan of the 3rd. i love a long epic movie IF the length is supporting a great story line. i have watched and rewatched (and will likely rewatch countless times) the first 2 you mentioned as well as 'gone with the wind', 'giant', and the slightly shorter but still longer than average 'patton'.

Well, sure!

Gone with the Wind
The Ten Commandments
All of the Lord of the Rings movies (each one is at least 3 hours long)
Gettysburg (4 hours with an intermission, it was originally made as a TV movie)
Amadeus (saw it once where it had an intermission and once where it didn't)

Two that come to mind:
Titanic
Schindler’s List

Also, though I’ve never actually seen them in their entirety (DH is a fan),The Godfather movies are all pretty long.

The only long movie I watched was Dances With Wolves. Knew at 3 hours I’d have to split between 2 showings. I prefer 2 hour or less movies.

I watched Gone with the Wind one day (for the first time ever), while "working from home".

I generally avoid long movies because, well you know, my attention span. However, I really do like some of them. Titanic is one I enjoyed and would like to see again if I ever get time.

My kids love the comic book superhero movies. I think it's Marvel? All I know is Scarlett Johansson is the only thing that makes it at all watchable, LOL. So I had to take them to see those all the time. They drag on forever. I fell asleep for about an hour. Got up and told them I'm heading to the restroom. Came out into the lobby and asked how much time the movie had. "About an hour and a half." I thought it was never going to end. End Games I think it was.

I love the MArvel movies, but I agree that they are mostly too long. Most newer action films are and I feel they could be trimmed by a good 15 to 20 minutes. Most of them are really jsut above two hours, so not THAT long, but Avengers: Endgame was significantly longer.

I have a hard enough time staying interested in a standard movie. There’s no way I’d make it through an exceptionally long one. I’m just not into movies. I’d rather watch an evening of sitcoms.

The funny part was after the movie, I stand up, and I'm the only one who stood up. I'm like, ah, what's going on? "There's a scene after the credits, Dad." Oh great.

Then I took my youngest to see one of the movies. End of the movie and I lean over, "I know what's going on, I'm not leaving." As the credits were about done, a worker enters, "If you're all waiting for the after credit scene, there isn't one!" Grrrr... Waited the extra time for nothing, LOL.

Nearly every MCU movie has an after the credits scene, but there are exceptions I believe. They all have one after the "pretty credits" though.

A couple others not mentioned….

JFK - 2 VHS tapes - I still have it
Ben Hur - Charlton Heston version

I agreed to watch Titanic with my wife if she watched Gettysburg with me. We watched Gettysburg first, and for the first hour she kept asking which side is that in every scene. She finally fell asleep after about an hour and I got to enjoy the movie. Sadly, I didn't even make it an hour into Titanic.

Well, you both gave it a try anyway! :)
