Ive been asking people and looking online for good places to eat and some unique UK food ideas.
Pie and mash is a traditional London dish, its pretty cheap and will fill you up.
M Manzes has been suggested.
Its near London Bridge, here it is on the
map
Nearest tube stations are Burmondsey (Jubilee Line) and London Bridge (Northern Line) you can also catch the 188 bus from Russell Square going towards North Greenwich Station (it would take just over 30 minutes and buses run every 30 minutes during the day)
Obviously fish and chips can be found all over the place!
Some recommendations include
Fish! at Borough Market (its got a restaurant and take away)
This is also a good places to visit if you like food in general I would definitely recommend trying some British cheeses such as Wensleydale, Cheshire, Red Leicester, Gloucester there are a few more
here.
Master Superfish is more of a restaurant than take away but its got great reviews and is reasonably priced (for London!)
Its near Lamberth North (Bakerloo Line) and Waterloo (Northern Line)
Brick Lane is the best place for a curry but there are others, at Borough Market there is
Silka
The menu looks fairly extensive and prices are comparable with what wed pay at home (were about an hour north of London)
Sheraz is in Brick Lane
Again the menu looks good, to get there you can get the tube to Aldgate (Metropolitan Line) or the number 25 bus from Holborn going towards Ilford.
On the other end of the scale
The Cinnamon Club has good reviews but you pay £14.00 for cauliflower cheese (entrée)!
Moti Mahal looks like a good place for lunch, they have some good offers and some quite unique dishes
Its in Covent Garden so fairly close to the hotel.
Other places mentioned include Canteen which does traditional British foods such as a roast, pies, shepherds pie, cheeses, fish and chips etc. There are a few locations one near the
Royal Festival Hall (near the London Eye), one out near
Canary Wharf,
Baker Street and
Spiatalfields.
The Proms are a series of concerts (usually a season of about 90-100 concerts) that is over 100 years old
The most famous prom event is "the last night of the proms" which features flag waving, horn blowing and 1000's of crazy English people singing Jerusalem and land of hope and glory.
YouTube will provide real life examples of this behavior.
The Proms are great, we saw a Gershwin performance a couple of years ago. It was something different and the Royal Albert Hall is an awesome venue.
