London / Paris Here We Come!!! 9/2 - 9/10/11

Cool! Are you planning on studying it before the trip? I'm probably going to be at the mercy of our guides when it comes to directions.

Same here. That map of the Metro intimidated me a bit.

Seeing as I don't speak a word of French beyond "Merci", I'm totally relying on the Guides! I tried getting around the Metro in Montreal (also all French) by myself and it was pretty hopeless!

All the Royal talk is getting me excited! My new "Royal" name is now Lord Cletus Fancy-Stratmore.

:rotfl2:

I'm more excited about seeing parts of London and knowing I'll be there in just 4 months than I am about the wedding. I'm trying to decide if I really want to get up at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow to watch the coverage though...

This will be me at work tomorrow :surfweb:

I'm thinking the same thing. I already was woken up at 4:30am on Tuesday for a work problem (that took until almost 1pm to fix!). So I'm not sure I could handle another *EARLY* morning so soon afterwards... But, man, how often does something like this happen? Plus, there's the whole thing about watching this and saying "I'll be there in 4 months!" "I'll be there, too, in 4 months!" "I can hardly wait to see that in 4 months!" :3dglasses

The last time I was in London (here I go, dating myself) Lord Mountbatten's funeral was taking place. This is a *MUCH* better occasion!

Kevin,

Listened to the podcast early this morning - we're moving buddies! We're moving today too! My first priority was making sure that cable was installed so I can watch the royal wedding. The only thing in our fridge is stuff for cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream. No progress on selling the old house yet, but I'm optimistic. Now that all of our crap is out of it, I think it will be easier.

I'd say "have fun!" but there's really very little about moving that even vaguely resembles fun!

So you're still coming to London & Paris with us? :yay: When Kevin said 2 people had canceled, I was concerned...

Don't worry, the Paris Metro is pretty easy to get around on - all the lines are numbered, so you don't need to read (or speak) French. The map makes it look more confusing than it is because they've tried to cram too much into it - all you need is the bit right in the centre, most of what is shown on there is the suburbs, which you'll never be going to.

To compare, if you looked at the full London Underground map, you'd probably think that was also a nightmare to navigate around, but LU have been a bit cleverer with the way they present things, and so most of the maps they do in tourist areas only show the stations in Central London (usually anything in or near the Circle line), which then gives them more space to lay it out and make it easier to read.

3am central time, baby! :scared1: I'm kicking myself for doing this, but I'll go to bed tonight on "grandparent time". Gotta have the early bird dinner special, then.

You've put my mind at ease a little. Thanks!

If I can actually go to sleep at 9:00, then I can get 7 hours of sleep. My body doesn't seem to want to wind down that early though.

I hope things went as well as possible today. You had a lot on your plate.
