London / Paris Here We Come!!! 9/2 - 9/10/11

I kept viewing all the sights on TV thinking, "I'll be there in a few months!".

And I'll make everyone homemade fascinator hats from decorated paper plates. Just attach to your heads at a jaunty angle like a satellite dish, and voila! :rotfl2:

Does that mean that we have to face in a South-southwesterly direction? :rotfl2:

OK, I'll bite. What hat??? :confused3

Sayhello

This is one of those times when the only thing I can say is that "you had to be there."

This was a moment in time from the February ABD trip and if I explained it.....no one would think it was funny.

Heather, Madeline (Pete's Mom), John and I were there and it was one of those silly things that makes you laugh until you have tears in your eyes, but doesnt translate well at all.

Sorry to be so cryptic.

Very cool! Radio/television have always been huge interests for me. I never realized so many stations transmit from the Eiffel Tower!

Every day I get more and more excited for this trip!

I have a feeling that Christy will want to hit Harrods.

I am having a hard time trying to limit my "have to do this" list for London.

Harrod's is pretty much at the top of my list.

Tell Christy that it's on!!!!

Harrods is definitely on my list. I'm having the same trouble. There is no way that I'm going to fit everything in that is on my list.

Huh. It looks like the Tea at Harrod's isn't on the itinerary any more? Bummer!

Shall we start a list of London "Must Do's"? If we have sufficient overlap, then maybe we can actually plan to do some of them together on our 2 afternoons on our own?

Sayhello

Edit: OMG, we're UNDER the 4 month mark!!!!! :yay:

I'll start...

London Eye (glad to hear they are going to "surprise" us with this one)
The British Museum
Portobello Road
The Globe Theatre (would love to see a show)

Harrods
Organ Concert at Westminster Abby

Hey, I'm glad we don't have to fit the London Eye into our "on our own" plans. :woohoo: I'm with you on much of that list. I want to do Harrods, of course, but I also wanted the British Museum, too! I'm not sure what else I wanted to do...

Hmm, Mike might be on to something...

It's interesting for me to see an outsiders perspective on London. I go every couple of months to visit, and I transfer on trains a LOT in London (I live 20 minutes away from central London by train), so I can understand why some of these are 'must sees' but some baffle me!

To me Harrods is just a very posh department store, good for a wander round (and get lost in) but I have never bought anything. I have never actually been in St Pauls, although I am curious! The London Eye is fantastic and something I wish I could do again. It would be even better with an ABD tour guide who can tell you what parts of the skyline are. I had my Dad who has worked in London most of his adult life to explain it to me. The British Museum is great, especially if you can hit it mid-week in September. Since the Museum is free to visit, it can create large queues on weekends. We have loads of other free museums too (Click here for a link)
I admit I have never been to Portabello Road, but I have been to the Camden Markets, which are interesting if you like some more 'out there' apparel.
I have never seen a show at the Globe, but I have visited backstage for my A level drama course. I would love to go again (or go back to the National Theatre which was amazing) but I would recommend buying a seated ticket. It is a recreation of a Tudor theatre so most are standing, and you can be standing for hours!! You get the best view that way, but my feet couldn't stand it!

I would also recommend popping in to the Tate or National Gallery if you are even a bit of an art lover. Most of the exhibitions are free and there are some outstanding pieces of work. I love walking round the National Gallery if I have a spare hour even though I wouldn't call myself an art fan (I have trouble drawing stick people), but some of the paintings are sensational!

Don't worry, there are plenty!!
