Logic Behind Why Swan/Dolphin Aren't On Dining Plan

I think Swan/Dolphin guests should be able to participate in the Disney Dining Plan.

Calling all Swan and Dolphin fans!!!

I'm not buying that the only reason the Swan and Dolphin aren't on the dining plan is because they're not "Disney owned". There's got to be a more logical, corporate reason, but this is the only reason I've seen posted on the DISboard. A lot of us who LOVE staying at the Swan and Dolphin while at WDW would really like to be able to sign up for the dining plan, but can't. We get the other perks: free parking at each park, entry into EMH, etc., but not the dining plan. Why not? It's corporate Disney that's getting my money for park entry and the dining plan, not whatever hotel I'm staying in.

Maybe they'll change this one day?

Disney uses the Dining Plan to increase occupancy at THEIR hotels. They wouldn't want to put money into someone else's pocket.

There is also speculation that Disney conciously takes a hit on the food cost but accepts this as it increases room revenue. Again, why would they take a hit on food cost AND give revenue to someone else?

EXACTLY- it's a $$$ issue.

They want to fill THEIR hotels. Swan and Dolphin are less $$$ for more stuff IMO. So with the dining plan too they would be in HUGE competition with the deluxes!

If Swan and Dolphin guests were on the DDP, they would be committed to dine at Disney restaurants vice non-Disney restaurants, e.g. Swan/Dolphin resort, Downtown Disney, etc. That would certainly put revenue in Disney's pocket that they wouldn't receive otherwise.

They lose money by having people on the dining plan, which they make up for by getting people to pay rack rates at their hotels, money they wouldn't get if the guest stayed at the Swan or Dolphin. Stuff like EMH and free parking are small potatoes.

And Disney would lose money on every single Swan/Dolphin guest who ate at a Disney restaurant on the dining plan. You have answered your own question but I don't think that you see that

Plus, the swan and dolphin have their OWN restaurants. Everyone on the DDP would NOT eat with them, so they would lose $$$.
