Hello.. I just got a brand new Apple iBook G4 today and I'm trying to log on to VMK. At first when I go to VMK.com it tells me that I have to be running IE 5 or higher and using a Windows computer. Well, tried logging on anyways, and I was able to get on. Right now I am using that "Safari" browsers. Well, it's running pretty slow, I don't know if it is my connection or the computer or the browser or what. Do any of you access VMK on an Apple conmputer or Book. Please let me know what you do. Thanks!

i suggest downloading firefox, i think it is faster than safari. I always get that message about the pc (blah) thing. I have been meaning to ask yavn about it but well i can never find him :sad2: . Good luck with you ibook:)!

Using a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 running Safari, and I've always suspected that it runs VMK / Shockwave slower than a comparable Winbox. No proof of that -- just that I frequently seem to be lagged out in busy rooms / pirates / fireworks (back when I actually played the games).

I guess you have to give up _something_ to be using an otherwise superior machine. ;) (...oh, I feel like such a troll...)

LOL. I'm just the opposite. I use Safari because it is WAY faster than IE on my computer.
And lately my DD and her friends have been taking over 'MY' computer because none of their windows/PC computers seem to be able to run VMK properly (BSOD/Crashing continually) at their houses.

I'm using an older iMac and Safari. Safari outperforms Firefox, Netscape and Internet Explorer on my computer. There are tips on the Apple tech support web site for improving the performance of Safari. One of them involves going to one of the Library folders then the Caches folder then the Safari folder. There should be an Icons folder - delete the contents of the Icons folder and then set the access to the Icons folder to Read Only.

Some things I've tried with some success at improving performance include using a cache of size 0 which I did by setting one of the Safari cache folders to be Read Only. I disabled Java and Javascript. I think this takes away the ability to log on from the home page but I just saved a link to the login page and go directly there. This also allows you to drag the game display to fill the entire screen. Either Java or Javascript resizes the game display when you login from the home page.

My advice is to experiment with some of your browser settings to see which ones improve performance.

another mac user here -- imac g5

I use either safari or firefox

Here lately has been safari since I do not get the BSOD there as often--but that is liable to change at any moment!! :rotfl2:

I have never been able to log on on my Mac. I've tried Safari and Firefox and both give me a "VMK has crashed and you'll need to login again" message. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Okay, I have to answer this one... I use a 1.5 GHz Powerbook at work (running Tiger), and I am outside the firewall of our server (paranoid IT people... they naturally fear Macs), and we are on a rather fast T1 at work. VMK runs slowly on both Safari 2.0.1 and the last version of Internet Explorer, and when I go elsewhere with the Powerbook and connect via wireless, it is just as slow. When I come home, I use a 1.8 GHz G5 Power Mac (Tiger, Safari 2.0.1), connected to the internet via a miserable satellite connection. VMK loads very slowly, if the connection ever happens, and by "very slowly" I mean I have waited eight minutes to connect (when monitoring the Activity window, I can see any of the avatar.cct's time out on me with regularity). However, when I use the (gasp) PC in the house, it connects very quickly, with typical speeds under a minute. Now, I know G5 literally smokes the miserable Piece of Crap in everything: processor speed, frontside bus, memory, all that tech talk. Yet VMK loads (and plays) miles faster on the PC. I asked VMK about this two months ago, and have never heard anything back (like I actually expect a response on this). Seems to me that it is somehow optimized for "the Windows experience," and Mac users don't matter (until Jobs signs Pixar back on to the team). Cynical? You bet...

i have a mini-mac, running Tiger, and don't seem to have a problem logging on with my Safari browser, but have found Firefox to be more responsive. i can bring up Safari and log in, then Firefox with a different persona, and then Explorer with another. i've been able to get three of me in a room together. But no success playing Pirates against each other - i get booted out of the game.

i too have gotten the message that VMK doesn't support my browser, using all three, but that doesn't seem to prevent me from playing.
