Loft beds

Has anyone ever made a loft bed and how did it go? Would you do it again or just buy one pre-made? Dh has carpentry knowledge and dd15 found plans to make one. We think you can make it cheaper than to buy one.

Both of our daughters had custom made loft beds that were done by my husband. We have no regrets, as they were so strong and built to handle a bunch of kids (they were full sized). He built them about 15 years ago and our daughters are now 22 and 24 and still use them, but in a different capacity. He designed them so that he could cut them down to regular size beds when they outgrew climbing up the ladder all the time. They now have their full sized beds about 26 inches off the floor and they store all of their out-of-season clothes in totes under there. They have been wonderful!

Can you tell me where you found the plans, my DD11 is wanting one for her new room and I have been searching. I think my Dad can build it if I can find a plan for it. Thanks kindly for your help!!
