Lodging-Disney Resort or Kissimmee

We are planning a trip to Orlando during the last week of November or second week of December 2008. Kids will be ages 7 and 4. Last trip to Disney was in 2003 and we stayed at one of the All-Star resorts.

I have been researching hotels located in Kissimmee and have been weighing the benefits of staying on site at a Disney resort or staying in Kissimmee and then having to get to the parks. Does anyone have any comments, good or bad, about staying in Kissimmee? Thank you in advance.

When we went in 2006 we arrived late in the afternoon the day before our trip began so we booked a room in Kissimmee so that we could check in and get our passes at Disney early the next morning and take advantage of a full day. While it is only about 5 minutes to WDW from Kissimmee, we decided that next time we'd probably pay the extra $ to stay in our resort room the extra night. We only saved about $30 by staying in Kissimmee. And definitely we stay on property for the length of our stay. It really is magical and so much more convenient and relaxing. And don't forget to figure parking into your budget if you stay off site.

We stayed at the Mike Ditka Runaway Beach Club resort in Kissimmee last September and thought that it was fabulous! We had a 2BR 2BA condo for the 10 days, and it was almost brand new,and quite inexpensive (around $70 per night).

We like staying off property. We get lots more room to spread out and everyone sleeps better when we all have our own doors to close. There are lots of shops and restaurants around the area, and getting to the park is only a short car ride away.
