Local shark attack

Oy--I was just writing on the Florida pool thread and mention that my pool had no sharks. Yikes!

Hope he is okay!

Last summer there were 2 or 3 shark attacks where I live. It happens everwhere, I just can't figure out why some attacks get more attention than others.

Most of the time when they bite, it's exactly when you are advised not to be in the water. Dusk, sunrise, when it's murky, when you see bait fish and so on...
He was very lucky.

The movie Jaws and a vacation destination (Florida).

though I didn't think this was national. Anytime something like that happens here--our local news is all over it.

Here--sharks can bite at any time. Isn't the ocean full of bait fish?

Probably "best selling author" and that it was in Brevard county perhaps?

They do have a reporter assigned to our county and they would cover anything "news worthy" in the county. Plus they have an agreement with Florida today--so if they picked it up--it will make it to that station in some format.

We just don't seem to have any local news tv. It's frustrating sometimes. The Brevard county line is very close.

It gives me the creeps just thinking about it. I wonder how far out he was.

I'm sure they can bit at any time, but there are times that you are warned not to be in te water. I live at the beach. Our news tells you all the time that high risk times are dusk and dawn. When you see bait fish jumping close to shore, stay away. It's feeding time. Never wear shiny objects in the water either. If the water is murky, or rough, try & stay out. Sharks get disorientated very easily in murky or rough water.

They don't want to bite you any more than you don't want them to.
It's usually by accident, they will mistake you for another fish.
these are clear facts. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just telling you the facts. Usually when a shark bites, one of these are the case.

I guess we don't get these warnings over here--unless it is AFTER a shark attack.

All our warnings are for rip currents.

ETA: I didn't think you were being a jerk. I have honestly not heard of those warnings (despite what sense they make).

Here where I live, the water is always murky because this is where 5 rivers dump out. That with all the sand being stirred up, the water is never clear. If we stayed out when murky nobody would ever go swimming. You just have to use your head when swimming in the ocean.
