I'm not local, but as someone who would give up various parts of my anatomy to live in Central Florida...
I wouldn't do it as a regular thing - but I would definitely do a full package every few years.
I should imagine that once you live there, life gets in the way and the parks, resorts and restaurants become an every so often kind of thing. Booking a complete package could probably be a relatively inexpensive vacation without having to worry about airfare someplace else, ground transportation - and all those little extra costs that come with travel.
Also - I know that NOT living near the parks - a BIG part of the fun of a trip is the anticipation and the planning. I'm sure that whole concept is just completely gone when you're down there. Planning a few nights with a complete package might bring a little of that back.
I live in Buffalo, and it's certainly not Walt Disney World - but we book a 2 or 3 night vacation in Niagara Falls (the Canadian side! ) every couple of years.
My husband is working in Orlando and we are planning to move there this fall. I'm trying to wrap my brain around the local concept. I am guessing we will take advantage of more day trips and save our money for cruises and such. Its hard to imagine going to Boma and dropping $150 on dinner as part of a day trip, and yet when its part of "free dining" its ok LOL
