I have a bunch of relatives that live in the Carolinas, mostly NC, and one phrase I have heard there, and nowhere else in the country is " I sure don't".

This isn't a bash on people from NC, I live in Philly and we have one of the worst I have ever heard....... locals tend to say "yous" instead of you.....

Now don't get mad at me "yous" guys..... just tell me about your local jargon that drives you nuts....:D

I know this is not a local jargon, but what drives me nuts -- what I can't stand is .........

"What's UP?"

Those two words would just irritate me.

Another is when teenagers say. Like, like, like, like, like, like

During the election campaign, the Washington people who were running said on tv, "I approve this ad" instead of "I approve of this ad." The bad grammar was rampant and it really started to bug me.

Papa Deuce, I was born and raised in Philly. When I moved to Virginia and would say, "See yous all later", people would look at me like I had two heads. I try to catch myself and not say that, but in Virginia it is ya'll. I do like "yous" better.

"Yous" drives me nuts, too. It sounds just dreadful. I cringe when someone will ask my DH and I "how are yous doing today?"

I thought they were saying "I approved this ad"?

By the end of the campaign some had changed to "I approved this ad"....

I work in TV, making sure the commercials air, and I must have seen literally thousands of these ads during the last 3 months of 8 hours a day, parked in front of a TV screen!

Some of my relatives with add "and all" to the end of almost every sentence. For example: "I was just out shopping and all..." or "We are having turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and all."
Also, they say they are "fixin' to" do things. Can you tell they're from Tennessee?
My husband says "yous" and I know it's just a fixation for him. He is from the midwest, just as I am, and we don't all say YOUS.
Sometimes we say "da" instead of "the," as in "da Bears" and "da Bulls."
I don't like "Where you at?"

A common one I used to hear is, "Yah, he did". Like that adds anything to the conversation.

It's not a phrase but a word. Because of LL Cool J, he made the word Cali really popular. Just so you know, most, if not, all Californians don't call it Cali.

My husband says "AUuuuuunnnnnt" (would that be ONT?) LOL I hate it. It's ANT

BTW he is talking about "Aunt"

Drives me crazy!!! NO one in his family says it this way....

"...Where's it at?" is pretty big around here:rolleyes:

nothing really bothers me, but something i do bothers people. :o

i do not pronounce my t's very well if the t's are in the middle of or at the end of a word. it drives my dh crazy and he is always making fun of me for it. :p :o

In all seriousness, you have my deepest sympathies. The ones I saw too late to avoid were too much for me.

Another philly person who can't stand Youse.

Triple cringe when someone says "Yo!, How youse doin'?"

How about (in my best Joey voice)..."How you doin?";)

Down the shore
De/dis/dat/dem/dose/derefore...
Yo! How youse doin?
Fugedaboudit! (Although they may be trying to imitate another region with that one.)
Wazzup *shudder*

On the other hand, people who weren't raised in a PA Dutch family think I'm nuts when I say "It's all" when something is empty or finished. ;)
