Local knowledge needed by UK disser!!

I need help deciding where to spend the 2nd week of our holiday next year....... Naples, Cape coral or Marco Island. I am hoping for some advise about the merits/cons of these places for a family of 5 who will want relaxation but also want to seee some of the area as we have come a long way!!!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me how far Marco is from the I 75? as we will want to go to Miami/ FT Lauderdale etc.
We stayed on Captiva last year and whilst it was really great the journey from the Island to the interstate seemed long before we started the joutney for real, if you seee what I mean!!!!!
Any help would really be welcome

Go to www.mapquest.com and do a search for Marco Island, FL
It will display a map and you can get a visual of the distance from the island to I-75. You can pan east, north, etc. If you pan north, you will eventually see Captiva which does appear to be farther out than Marco Island. While I have never been to Marco Island, I used to work for someone who went several times and he said it was wonderful there. NOW, they just went through a major hurricane (Charley) several weeks ago and that side of Florida received a good bit of damage. So, when you call a resort/hotel in that area, (I would recommend reservations in advance since some may be closed due to damage) check to make sure that things are cleaned up a bit and that the area is returning to normal. The area may be ok but I know that a little farter north (ft myers and more northward) received extensive damage. In case you haven't heard, Florida just went through 4 hurricanes in the last 6 weeks so no matter where you go you will see some damaged areas and it may not be as pretty as you remember from your last trip. Disney, universal, etc are all up and running with no problems! Don't let this info stop your trip, just be sure to ask questions!
