Local illegal immigrant march visited by INS agents!

I have to say, when I read these threads, I'm shocked and appalled at the attitudes here.

In South Florida, which is a true melting pot, we have all kinds of people. Many are immigrants, and quite a few illegal. I don't think SoFla would be a magically better place if they were all rounded up and taken home. The immigrants there add quite a bit to the local economy. You can get things WAY CHEAPER than you can in other parts of the country.

I have to laugh when people say they'll pay the higher prices that the lack of illegal immigrants will bring. Take a close look at the budget boards and the transportation boards, and you'll see that we don't want to pay for anything. What do you think contributes to the success of Wal-Mart, Target and E-Bay?

The truth is, we'll never be able to seal our borders. People sneak in because they're desparate, and because it's pretty much impossible to get in to the U.S. if you're poor. So people come in, work, have families and children who American, and take the gamble. Because for most of these folks, the worst day in the U.S. as an illegal immigrant is better than the best day back on their home country.

I wonder how many of you wouldn't make similar choices, if you were in their shoes.

I bet a lot of you had forbears who came to this country illegally. You were lucky by the grace of birth to be an American...

But do you understand, there is no legal avenue for most of these people? There is NO WAY for most of them to come her legally. That's why they come illegally.

People keep nattering on about the legality of the issue, when it's a non issue. They either take the chance and come here illegally, or they stay home and starve.

Which would you do for your children?

I would do it the right way so I wouldn't have to deal with what they're going thru now :confused3

We know it can be done because they're 1000's of legals who went through the proper channels, but when you break the law just so you can live the american dream and think it's ok well I think your setting yourself up for a big fall imho.

The only ones who got in already had family here, or they married someone here.

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY FOR MOST OF THE MEXICANS! It's the only reason most of them are here illegally.

In theory I agree with you on some points. It is sad that the lives they lead back home are so awful that coming to a country illegally and working low paying jobs is their version of the American dream. But that doesn't make it right. And it doesn't help our system of government pay for them to be here. The bottom line to me is I can UNDERSTAND why they come, illegal or legal, but my country can no longer AFFORD to have them here. When I see my parents, who have lived, worked and paid taxes in this country their whole lives, struggling to pay their medial bills and pharmacy tab it occurs to me I have to worry about myself and my family. I know the illegals do too but nobody ever said life was fair. At some point, this has to stop.

I find it interesting that in this thread only one person has voiced support for illegals. If this is a representation of public opinion, albeit a tiny one, then why are we as Americans allowing this to continue? At what point will we as a population say to our elected officials do something or we will find someone that will? Clearly this is out of control to the point there is no easy answer and no end in sight. I find it very depressing.

Oh... I get it it is all relative. Our laws are now subject to the personal situation of each person wanting to come here?

I find it depressing that so many want to make illegal immigrants the scapegoats for what is wrong in America today!

Kick all the immigrants out tomorrow....your parents' medical and drug issues won't change a bit.

I can't believe that the point hasn't been made that we are allowing a group of people who do not have voting rights, have broken laws to come here and have no problem doing, it are telling our government what to do. The people we voted for (on both sides) to represent US are pandering to non voters in the hopes of future votes. It is disgusting. Where is the voice in government that reflects what is in this thread?

I don't blame the illegals for everything, but they aren't helping the situation either. They are flooding the social service programs, the schools, and the emergency rooms and we are stuck paying the bills.

I have to take my daughter to softball. I will check in when I return.

Excuse me, I never said that kicking them out would make it all go away. Thats really nice of you when I mention that I agree with some of your points but find that logistically it just needs to come to a gradual end. Like finding a way to have the people already here, who work, pay taxes and deserve a chance stay and work towards citizenship. But also finding a way to end the steady stream of people coming in that we just can no longer afford. This is why I so seldom post on this board. No entertainment value whatsoever, not being able to have threads that remain civil without sarcasm and people like you who get their panties in a wad for one reason or another. Off to another topic. Sorry I tried to agree with you, it clearly won't happen again!

Hmmm. The Native Americans could have said the same thing about us, don't ya think?

Also, I seem to recall we were British citizens to start with in this country, but then a bunch of folks started breaking the law! What gave those people the right!

You drew a direct line to your parents's woes and the immigration issue. It was you who brought it up, not me.

And of course, you're right, your parents SHOULDN'T have to face the issues they're facing now. But that's a whole other thread about how the healthcare industry in this country makes a ton of dough and sick people get caught with the short end of the stick.
