For those of you who eat lobster....

Do you have the market cook it for you or do you do it on your own? I'm leaning toward letting them do it, but can I reheat it somehow before serving? (For fathers day dinner...)

TIA!

I always just buy the tails frozen to avoid this problem. I'm not sure, but if the market is near you, maybe you can have them pith (remove the brain) the animals for you. You'll still do all the cooking relatively fresh, but you'll have considerably less of the guilt.

I have done it before, but will probably not do it again. I live only a couple of miles from a seafood market, and I have them cook them for me. I ask them to have it ready right before we want to eat, and it is still plenty warm when we get home.

ditto :thumbsup2

I always cook our lobsters right here in the house.....or outside on the side grill ......it is messy sometimes but ......HONEST...we are mainers and I have never heard the lobster cry or make a noise.......

Just get the water boiling at a good pace and then drop them in........they do not fight to get out regardless of what you have heard.......

dont forget to buy some steamers at the same time.......those are soooooo good with some lobsters.......yummy

if you do have the market cook them for you.....put aluminum foil around them and place in a warm oven for a few minutes before you eat them.......the foil will keep them moist

I saw on Good Eats that if you put them in the freezer before you cook them, it basically puts them to sleep, making your cooking process relatively guilt free.

We always cook them ourselves, split them, then grill them.

I suppose you could have the market cook and split them for you, then warm them on the grill.

Random interjection, but for cooking lobster on the go, try one of those stand up, gas powered, turkey fryers. My parents tailgate and once a season they cook lobsters for all their friends this way.

I do it myself and don't find it messy nor do I feel guilty. Guess that's the "Mainuh" in me.:thumbsup2

I buy them right off the boat in Pt Judith here in RI and then boil them or steam them right at home. Boy are they good!! A little butter, a lot of beer, maybe some quahogs, now that's a New England meal!

If you do have issues cooking them yourself, let the store do it, then warm them in some water on the stove, but don't leave them sitting in it too long as the meat will got soggy.

THanks for all the great replies!

I had the fish market steam them for me, they stayed boiling hot long enough after I got home to get the steamers, etc prepared and still be piping hot at meal time!

THanks again!
