Happy Tuesday Morning - Today is going to be a long day. We are transferring over to AKL concierge. I've been looking forward to staying concierge at AKL for so long. I'm so excited.

We were awakened by that happy mouse at 6:00 am. Finished packing, rustled up the troops.

7:30 priority seating for the character breakfast at Ohana. And no film. I had shot about 15 rolls of film already and we were only on day 5. Luckily the shops opened at 8:00am. We were seated for breakfast. Breakfast at Ohana is served family style. There is a huge lazy susan in the center of the table. Our server brought out a huge pan with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, Mickey waffles. Everything was delicious. OJ, coffee, milk and chocolate milk. They also greet you with a Hawaiian breakfast bread that is amazing.

The characters were Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale and Goofy, all dressed in Hawaiian outfits. They looked so cute. The character interaction here was great too!!.

The servers handed out Maraccas to all the kids and we lined up for a hello parade. We danced and marched around the restaurant while music from the Lion King played. Kids had a blast.

We made sure we ate well, because we would not eat again until 3:00. We were doing the Fantasmic dinner package at Hollywood and Vine.

After breakfast we gathered our luggage, call bell services and valet and had all our stuff put into our car and off we went to AKL.

Ok, let me warn you, this is going to be long!!!!

We reached the security gate at AKL and without even thinking about it I held my breath. We told the guard we were staying concierge and he said to go ahead and he would have someone meet us. This resort is absolutely magnificent. It is breathtaking. and this is just my view from the car. We were greeted by Pablo, one of the bell services crew. He unloaded our car, we told him we wanted valet service, but would be leaving for MGM as soon as we checked in. He told us our rooms were ready (10:00 am) and took us right up. He gave us a tour of the lobby and all the services available. Told us because we were concierge, we would not have to check in at the front desk. All our cards were ready, we only had to check in at the lounge and leave an imprint of our credit card if we wanted charging privileges. Which of course we did.

Our rooms were 5237 and 5239. Connecting rooms on the Arusha Savannah, Kudu trail. These rooms were amazing. They were almost in the middle of the savannah. The view was amazing.

"Don't put anything down - I have to take pictures of the room for my DIS friends"
"Don't go in the room yet, ' I haven't finished my pictures"
"Yes I have to take pictures of both rooms - DUH!!!"

OK all the pictures have been taken. 5237 is a queen/queen room. connecting room 5239 is a queen/bunk/daybed layout.

I have to say, I got everything I requested at both resorts. This was amazing.

By now my heart is pounding because I am just so amazed at this resort. I walk over to the sliding door and pull apart the curtains. OH MY GOODNESS!! There are giraffes, zebras and the hugest animal I have ever seen (ankole cattle) right outside our balcony. The kids are going crazy. The mother in law ( "I liked the Polynesian"). I think to myself "are there any lions on our savannah, they must be hungry". I'm sure they'd appreciate a 145 pound mid morning treat.

Pablo then took us up to show us the Kilimanjaro lounge. I'm in heaven, I thought. There Angel from Venezuela checked us in and imprinted our card and set us up for charging privileges. We had to try some of the breakfast goodies. I couldn't believe the coffee machine. You mean I can have Latte's all day long???? I truly was in heaven. By this point, I say, I liked the Poly, but AKL just blows it away.

" Can we get to MGM now, mom?"
"OK OK"

We had a blast at MGM. I remember this as the hottest park on our last trip and today was no exception. It was 94 degrees and it really felt it. Very little shade here. The mother in law was wilting but still wouldn't buy herself a water bottle. Luckily, I said you don't have to. Concierge gave us water to take to the parks. " oh, that's nice, for what we're paying, it's the least you could get." Do you all see, why I wanted to feed her to the lions????

Ok - The backlot tour was a hoot. This was the longest wait for any ride in any of the parks - about a half hour.

Rock N Roller coaster was walk on - So was TOT. I did RnR - that was unbelievable. No way I was doing TOT.

Our lunch at Hollywood and Vine was terrific. One of the best buffets in WDW. We got our vouchers for Fantasmic and off we went to the Motorcade of Stars parade.
That parade is great. There is nothing like hearing my kids screaming all the characters names. Especially Buzz and Woody, they start the parade.

I'll end this day with Fantasmic. And, there really isn't much I can put into words. AMAZING - doesn't come close. It is a must do!!!. For those with young children, there are loud booms and some scary visions, but my 4 year old and 2 year old were mesmerized. I had Zachary (2) in my lap and all he could say was "did you see that, mama" and "wow".

Wow is right!!!

Ha Ha!! I knew you would love AKL!! Isn't the lounge so peaceful and gorgeous? - I loved people watching down into the lobby.

Our room was 5233 - right near you with the same view - your report is making me regret booking BC and I am again thinking of changing back to AKL for the whole 10 nights :(

I'm so confused!

I can't even put into words how I feel about this resort. I know that concierge played a part in my experience, but it was just unbelievable. The warmth and feel of the resort and the people there.

I will never go back to Disney and not stay a few nights here. And I would have to do concierge. I might have to go back to value season so i can swing the 2 rooms since darling Smother in Law will never vacation with us again.

At least until the older 2 decide they don't want to go anymore and then I'll be down to one room again.

Too funny! Thanks for the great report--I enjoyed reading about AKL!

Smother in law! I love it!! Your report has me so excited to be going to AKL in December. I'm booked now for a savanna view, but reading your report really has me thinking about changing to concierge! I thought these boards were supposed to help you save money, not spend more! LOL!:D

You're making me wish we were there right now!!

I have a question for you...

How did you feel about the connecting rooms? Did this give you enough privacy from your smother-in-law?

Your rooms sound wonderful.

Looking forward to Day 6.

Yes definitely.

The connecting rooms have a door and we for the most part kept it closed and locked it at night and when we wanted some more private time.

Also the connecting door leads to the little hallway outside the bathroom and the rest of the room is a turn right, so even with the door open, we really didn't see them too much.

Okay, Now you even have me second guessing our August trip. I went back and forth between Beach Club and AKL and the Beach club won out for the pool, and since my sister just had back surgery, the closeness to Epcot. Next time, it has to be AKL. Enjoying your reports.

Lizzie,
we are doing 6 days AKL concieerge 1st, becuase we are coming from Hawaii and will just hang out at the hotel the 1st couple of days to get over jet lag, then we are going to the Poly for 7 days concierge. do you thing we will be really dissappointed switching that way? We want to be on the monorail , and Poly will feel like home for us. do you thnk you would have liked it more had you done concierge? I am also so glead you had such a wonderful trip!! How was the bus service from AKL?

I also would like to know if you would have liked the Poly better had you done concierge? I suppose there's no way for you to know unless you actually try it.

It sounds like you really fell in love with AKL. That's great.

What were some of your other observations about the Poly?

I know you can't compare apples and oranges but how did it compare to AKL in cleanliness, food choices, etc.

When do you think you'll go back?

First off, let me say, I really liked the Polynesian. It is beautiful. I loved the rooms and being on the monorail can't be beat. Would I have liked it any more being concierge, maybe. I didn't like the fact that If I wanted to something to eat or drink, we had to actually walk to another building. Concierge might have made that a little better. Also, nothing beats the views of the castle and space mountain and the lagoon at night. That was incredible.

There was just something about AKL though that just warmed my heart. It felt like home. It is a huge resort, but everything is just an elevator ride away.

We did AKL last because we thought we'd relax more at the end of the trip. We had one day at the resort and the others we did parks, but we did find ourselves leaving the parks early because we wanted to go back to the resort.

I think in your situation, I would do the same and relax at the beginning of the trip. Especially to do the MK and EPCOT while you're on the monorail.

Have a great time. I'll look forward to hearing your reports.

FloridFam,

I think both resorts were imaculate. I never saw any rubbish or anything out of place. I think the food court at the Poly has more traditional kinds of food choices than Mara at AKL. At Mara's food court, you can get roasted chicken with rice, an African Stew in a bread bowl (very good), tandori chicken pizza. These are cooked with African spices, so you have to like that kind of cooking. They also had alot of regular choices as well.
There is much more seating at AKL's food court than the Poly's food court.

Both resorts have wonderful, friendly staff.

I think you'll love both resorts.

Thanks for the info.

Anxiously awaiting Day 6.

Did you take a walk down to the end of any of the wings at AKL?

Did it seem like it took forever. You sound like you don't have any complaints about the layout of the resort at all. I've seen a few posts about the "long walks" to get everywhere. Did you experience any of this?

We stayed at AKL over a year ago for 1 night on concierge to do the Sunrise Safari. I didn't expect to like the resort and instead it is our new favorite. since then we have stayed 2 more times and are going again in June. The concierge service and lounge is amazing and the CM are the best we've encountered. We are DVC members, but now stay there at least 2 nights!! Beth

I know how you feel. We just got back and I'm already trying to figure out when to go back. We usually do Disney once every 2 years, but I don't think I'll last that long.

We have stayed at AKL twice in regular Savannah rooms...and besides our DVC resort..AKL is my favorite resort....I can't imagine what it would be like staying in Concierge....WOW!!!!

Love all your Smother in Law comments...:D
