we just got back from a trip to VWL and we missed the green lizards. What happened? do they not come out in March? Or has the florida drought killed them? This is the first time in March, we generally go in Sept and December.
They're kinda seasonal little critters; you should be seeing them mid-April and after. Y'all don't have 'em in Birmingham? We did down around Enterprise and Elba! (LA Native here.)
We noticed that too, that you don't see as many. On our first trips in 1994 & 1996, we saw lots of them. Lately, we see maybe 1 or 2 per trip if at all.
Anybody remember the frogs? In the Turtle Pond area when you came home at night there would be little frogs (or maybe toads) all over. There was one on my front door one night and I freaked and kicked the door...too bad it wasn't actually my door.
I think the lizards are just in hiding but I think the frogs are gone for good. Haven't seen 'em in years.
not really - they are cute - they always seem to be a lot of them at FW and this year none. I was wondering if the environment had change - thanks now I know it was just the wrong season. I have cats so even if there were some here I don't think they would come out. I still find the frogs and the turtles (big ones) are around. But I also go in some strange places.
We saw a lot of them in September and some in December, but have never seen them in January. They remind me of the little gechos you see hanging on the ceiling and walls in Hawaii!
I don't know what a Queen Lizard is, but we saw several little lizards at FW in Oct. I also rescued one at AK. The poor little thing was literally going in circles on the sidewalk because of all the people's feet. I looked down and saw it. I put my hand down and it jumped on my finger. I have a photo with it I put it on a tree near the sidewalk. Hope it learned it's lesson

WE saw them at the Polynesian in March 2 weeks ago. That is if you are talking about the chameleons. They were brown when we saw them because they were on logs.
We didn't see any lizards at WL in Feb. I also never saw any bunnies, and from what I can remember we've seen them at all times of the year. Haven't seen any little frogs for awhile, either, and they used to be all over. One year when we were camping at FW, our boys were in a tent. We got back from the parks very late one night, trying to be quiet, and all of a sudden my Luke said, "Mom, I think a lizard just went in the tent." Well, it was like the keystone cops had descended on our camp site. The boys and DH were all looking for flashlights and I was throwing a fit thinking someone would squash the poor thing, but I wasn't about to go in the tent. We finally got a little 'organized', and it turned out that the lizard was in fact a frog. And those things can jump 20 feet in one leap. We gave Luke a cup, and he started trying to catch it, but he was laughing so hard it took awhile. We were finally able to let the poor thing go, and that's when we realized that there were five other frogs clinging to the sides of the tent!! This is still one of our favorite Disney memories, something I'm sure we'll never be able to duplicate.....
They were out in force today. The chameleons (I forget the scientific name right now!) are cold blooded little creatures and hide beneath the foliage and mulch during colder times. Today was near 80 and they were everywhere- trying to find a sunny spot to lay in.
Their natural color is brown, but they are able to modify color to match their surroundings. Males have an expandable pouch under their chin- which they can inflate and turn bright red when challenged by another male. OK- enough of the vertebrate lecture for today!
I miss those little frogs too!!! There were always two or three hanging around our door as if to greet us when we came "home." One year we even named them. Ok--I guess we got a little carried away there!! LOL!! Wonder what happened to them. Last time I was at OKW when I left the room there was a snake on the walkway!!!!! It was a very skinny little snake but it was still a snake and it was right in the middle of the walk and I couldn't get around it. I was scared silly as I HATE snakes!!! The rest of my family had a good laugh watching me try to maneuver around that thing. UGH!!
When ever we are at OKW we always see at least one. We now have a few of our own. Our local pet store had a relative to the florida lizard. They are called anoles. They are fun to watch and do change colors. Going in 2 days we will have to look for those little guys.
