Living With The Land- Closed For Refurb

Yep... ANOTHER throwback to we folks who still recall the Kraft-sponsorship days... Sigh!

Hey, if folks can still say PEOPLE-MOVER (for TTA), I can still call it the "Land Grill".

(Although, it WAS spelled with an "e" at the end of "Grille".)

Good catch, though, BT. :thumbsup2

I refuse to call the Wedway People Mover by any other name. :p

And this whole thread makes me want to sing.....Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit

But to the original topic, we went on Listen - er - I mean, Living with the Land back in December and they were having a terrible time with the audio. The mics of the tour guides and the speakers in the boats were just not working together and all we got was static, so the tour guides would have to yell across the boat at people.

I hate I won't be able to see what all the veggies and fruits look like in September, though.

They're going to get rid of the guides? What's going to stop the idiots (there are always idiots somewhere at WDW...) from getting out of the boats during the ride to mess with the plants? You know that someone will try to get out to pick some fruit or something

I don't see that being a big problem. They'll install cameras and you can bet there will be a CM there ready to put the smackdown on any idiot who attempts that business.

Even if there is a CM there to step in after it happens, that's going to make the ride a bit less enjoyable, IMO. It will be like Splash Mountain, when the ride process stops and the recording comes on when someone is dumb enough to stand up in the log...

Shoot!! I didn't realize this. We're going the 14th to the 22nd. Ugh. I love this ride. I also made reservations for the Behind the Seeds tour for September 18th. I'm surprised the CM didn't tell me that the ride was going to be closed. Interesting.
Maybe they didn't know. I was getting special assistance from a Guest Services CM last year; we got out behind City Hall and his view of the Liberty Square Riverboat back there was the first he knew of it being out of service.

i've never been on this before but am looking forward to going on it during our september trip. and thankfully it's scheduled for reopening the day before we get there! :cloud9:

I'm not one of those to get all teary eyed and nostalgic over older Disney rides, but I am an old-school EPCOT fan and I do find it a shame going to an automated boat ride for The Land. Part of the charm was it felt like more of an interactive greenhouse tour, and not your typical 'kill time out of the heat' ride.

No matter how long it's been, I can never seem to get that freakin' 'Listen to the Land' song out of my head.

I read elsewhere that "Living with the Land" refurbishment will be completed on Sept 16 and will re-open on Sept 17. Hopefully that is true, cause I'll be in EPCOT on 9/18 and was hoping to "do" this one. I enjoy this attraction and DH doesn't, so haven't been on it for about 5 years and I was planninig on going on whether or not DH wanted to go with me!! :teeth:

That info is as good as the other date (Sept 25) for the re-open.

Nobody KNOWS (certainly at this point) when the modifications will be completed and tested.

Early this year, when Buzz Lightyear was scheduled for rehab. an "official" date was posted for the re-open. It beat that by a full week.

Same for the "Capt. Jack" upgrades for PotC...
they opened a week early, as well.

But I always include the infamous "Test Track" opening date (when it was new).
They just barely missed their projected opening date by a couple of...

YEARS!

;)
