"Living on Less" Blog Series - Who's In??

I am :) I am a Trader Joe and Whole Foods shopper myself so I am enjoying the videos. I will check out that yogurt and that dressing!

I was wondering what you do w all that frozen fruit?

We eat the frozen fruit in the yogurt, make smoothies with it, put it on cereal, put it in oatmeal, or make a dessert by heating it up and topping it with a little bit of almond flour and cinnamon (a make-shift cobbler). We go through it like crazy :thumbsup2

Do you defrost it before you put in oatmeal or cereal?

Love the videos!! :thumbsup2

I would love to see what kind of meals you create with your hauls.

Love it! I see you actually have a lot of cool videos to watch, you have such a great television voice

Actually lately all I have been doing is putting however much I want in a colander and running it under water at the sink for 5-10 seconds. That thaws it out enough that it doesn't hurt my teeth and takes the icy-ness away. :thumbsup2

I just told my DH what you said and he :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

....not quite sure how to take his reaction. :rolleyes2:laughing:

Ok guys, the next video is in the first post! DIY beauty products :thumbsup2

I like your suggestion for face wash, I use Dr. Bronners Castille soap as face wash but it's a little too liquidy, maybe I can add some baking soda to it to thicken it up?

Love coconut oil for removing eye makeup, I like how I don't feel like I'm gonna scrub my face off trying to get the makeup off I have tried different brand of make up remover wipes ( Pacficia, Burt's Bees, Yes to), they all irritate my eyes

You can absolutely add baking soda to thicken it up! I'll add baking soda (or sugar) to shower gel to make it into a scrub of sorts, and have added it to coconut oil when using that to wash my face (mostly in the winter when it gets so dry outside). And I KNOW about the coconut oil to take off eye makeup, right!? It works so well. I'll be doing a video on how I clean with Dr. Bronners soon-ish. Maybe tomorrow... I'm obsessed with the almond scent. The peppermint is pretty good too.

While I realize everyone has food already in the house, can you either do a video re: meals on your 100.00 budget and or put the meals in the comments.

For example: I see salads for a lunch and a few meat meals, a spaghetti meal etc..

But like for breakfast. Did you get a large egg or grain in your last purchase.

For example in my last haul I purchased 3 steel oat containers which is enough for breakfast for both of us all month and some if one of the children are home. I add fruit, yogurt and or just savory with a little butter.

So can you tell us based on what you actually purchased, what meals you ate that week?

I can absolutely do that. I'll film every day's worth of meals next week after Sunday's shopping trip!

Yes. I would also like to see what you're using the TJ/WF foods for. I shop at those stores too. I had to stop buying the organic fresh fruits & veggies from there. I was at $300/week. I now get my fruits & veggies at a market but I see "Chile" on a lot of it. I try to keep our budget at $200/week but it's hard. There are 4 of us & the kids are teens. We hardly ever eat out so that's why it's so high. Also dh & I work ft outside the home. The kids are busy with activities & usually bring a meal with for their dinner (instead of buying fast food.) oh, and dd is a vegetarian so it's LOTS of fruits & veggies & nuts & whole grains.

I'm going to pick up that yogurt on my next trip.

Thanks for sharing!

Got a freezer? Buy fruits and vegetables in season and learn how to freeze them.

Have a meat slicer? Buy whole and slice it up yourself.

For example I buy a pork loin roast and slice it into pork loin chops and save fifty cents a pound.

The more the butcher handles it the more it will cost per pound.

When possible buy in bulk. My foodsaver vacuum sealer has saved me a bundle. And you can extend the storage time. By up to 5 times longer. Foodsaver now has ziplock bags and a small hand held rechargeable vacuum pump. And it only cost about $20.00. Saw it on sale at Target for $16.00.

I wish we had a TJ around here so I could save a little money. I went to WF yesterday, that's a 2 hour drive so I don't go more than once/month. We only have Naturally Yours here, it's very expensive and never stocked well.
