Live Trip Report - Oh the heat

Disney Hollywood studios today.

Awake so early so we were at Dhs early and 4th family in our line. Helped out a nice family from the uk behind us who we got chatting to who didn't realise they could book their fast passes in advance and had been booking them on the day and hadn't been able to get Peter Pan the day before.

Straight to toy story, then to rockin roller coaster where hubby and Cullen rode in standby which said 20 mins but they walked straight on. We rider swapped it and went and had a cinnamon roll and some fruit in the shade.

Cullen, bless him, wasn't sure of the ride but did ride again with me, but the look on his face was priceless at the end. He said two times was enough.

Our time was open for toy story fast pass so we rode that again. The line to scan the first fastpass was long and backed out almost to where the old fastpass machines were, it made the area even more congested than normal. It was at this point we decided to fork out and buy the magic bands as digging out the tickets each time we needed them was a bit of a faff. The kids wanted to scan the tickets, I was worried they would lose them and felt like we were blocking up the line. So now we are the proud owners of some expensive bracelets but on the bright side the kids can wear and do their own scanning and stop bugging me :).

Cullen has a new found appreciation for the muppets thanks to a game on his tablet so we did the muppets 3d ended up in the front row Sweetums scared Ariana stiff she didn't like him at all.

Movie ride fp then off to our lunch at scify quietest lunch ever one day we will learn however if we are having a starter to share a main. I had the Reuben's sandwich and could only eat half.

During dinner I tried to move our star tours fp forward but wasn't able to so it was then we purchased the magic bands so that filled in some time while she set them all up, we rider swapped star tours, Ariana and I waited for the boys before Doug took her to the honey I shrunk the kids playground while I rode star tours with the boys. There was a great lady patrolling the grass slide who made sure the kids played safe which meant I could relax and let Ariana just do it herself. A little bit about Ariana. She has a chromosome deletion so basically she is missing part of her genetic make up which has affected her mobility she walks like she is drunk most of the time. She has learning difficulties and is very hard to understand. So it was lovely she could just be a normal 4 year old and do it independently which is what she now wants to do. "I do it mummy on own".

We just made it to the Little mermaid show which we hadn't seen before so cool in there. Left the park after that, quick stop at Walmart for some bits for dinner, kids had a swim and I had a frozen marguerite yay for convenience food.

Tomorrow animal kingdom, just checked the mde ap and had heart attack it was only showing fp's for Ariana and myself. So logged on through the browser and they all seem to be there yay.

Sounds like your having a great trip. How many hours are you spending in the parks a day? We left Magic Kingdom by 2.30 yesterday, we were all wiped out x

Great update. My DD couldn't be prizes out of the Honey I shrunk the Kids playground when she was 5. It's a great addition to that park.

Half a day and work then one more sleep for me and DD then we are off tomorrow. 11am Virgin flight from Manchester :)

Really enjoying your trip report. We love the Honey I shrunk the kids playground. Always laugh a bit when we go as in all the times we have been to Disney its the only place I have ever lost our son. It was our first visit when he was 5 and he was so excited when he saw the playground, he just ran off and disappeared into a tube and then never came out. I started to panic after a while and spoke to a cast member who tried to reassure me. All I kept thinking is that when my husband gets here and see no Harry he'll have a breakdown. In the end I asked a very young male cast member if he could please just go in there and find him. I didn't want to leave the spot where I was standing incase Harry came back. Needless to say he was fine and didn't even realise he had been missing in action. He's 13 now and last year we took his 6 year old cousins in there and I was much more relaxed!
Enjoy the rest of your trip, I will be following along. We go back 7th Ausgust.

I'm also really enjoying your trip report!
I always have great intentions of doing one,I.start it and then end up with no Internet so many times I give up,or I'm.so.tired.com that I forget to do it each night!
Also haven't figured out how to post pics yet :(

The kids love the teacups. And for me that and dumbo are quintessential Disney rides. But the older I get the less I like the fast spinning lol.

truth be told, i loved tea cups type rides when i was little, but by university my spinning ability was gone!!
i can't even ride dumbo anymore. Not even the carousel!!

your day at DHS sounds lovely!!
seems like you're making very good use of the FP+ system.

but no Tower of Terror? that's my second favorite ride in all WDW!!!

did you mention where you're staying? i have to go back to your earlier posts.

Yesterday we left about 3.30 and MK was straight after parade. Both days we were DONE by the time we left.

Thursday we have BOG at 4.10 so it will be a full day (well for us some people will be laughing at our full days)

Hope you are having a good time x

Bet you can't wait. Ariana cried when we left and was cross about going but perked up when we got to her Ariel.

Have a great flight.

Kids just don't realise that they are missing or worrying you. We we're have way down the line for the little mermaid when we realised we didn't have Ariana. She doesn't care was just wandering around out the front. Looking at stuff. Ah well pay back is coming when they get older and have their own kids lol

So enjoying your travels and experiences with you. Takes me back to when my daughter was so young. She also has a learning difficulty and Disney taught her so much and really gave her confidence to play with other children and not feel isolated.

No tower of terror not fussed on that one. Can't get kids on it, Cullen tried it last time but won't go again yet. And hubby won't go anywhere near it lol

We are staying at eagle pointe it's a lovely house. About 25 mins from the parks. We rented it through homeandaway.com

It's great isn't it :). She's loving it. As am I

Animal kingdom yesterday.

Blinking magic band worked for everyone else except me getting into the park. So we had to step out for the man to try and figure out what was going on. Luckily I had the tickets with me so it didn't take long to sort it.

We headed over to dinosaur and walked straight on. Both kids point blank refuse to ride that again. We were in the front row and they were latched onto a arm each I could hold on my self.

We wandered over and Cullen rode primeval whirl countless times without getting off, the younger two and myself did a few goes on triceratops then wasted so money on the games, before heading towards are fp for the safari. Got some pictures with baloo and king Louie well four of us did Seth packed a sad and refused to get in the photo, but the photographer got him to stand by a pole which I think put him in the picture anyway lol.

Sent Doug and the boys on Everest we picked up a rider swap. Seth announced half way round he did not like the ride whoops. I had to bribe him to get him on it in the first place so he is now the proud owner of a mini yeti to remind him of the one time he rode it.

Lunch time at yak and yeti nice and cool well needed yak attack frozen mango boozy drink. We shared the dim sum basket then I had the tuna salad which was massive and tasty.

Cullen and I rode Everest and then we all rode kali with fp. Got drenched and had to take a crying Ariana off because she wanted to go again but the standby was 70 mins and we weren't waiting in that.

We headed home after that to play in the pool, before heading to the loop for a trip to michaels to get my birthday present of a silhouette cameo and had dinner at chillis which was a new one for us it was lovely and the best part was being able to pay the bill with the interactive menu game thingy at the table so no waiting around for the bill when the kids are done..........

Bed

Today we are off the magic kingdom. We have bog this evening but I didn't work it out very well because it's extra magic hours this morning so it will be busy before we even get in. So we are taking it easy and heading in a bit later instead.

My DD went on at 5 1/2 and loved it :thumbsup2 Depends on what they are like with other rides. Our DD is tall and a dare devil - she has always gone anything she is tall enough for - her favourite ride at 3 was ToT :rotfl:. The only thing she has ever refused to get back on was Dinosaur!

We will ride R'n'R a good few times in July if we can as she loves it as do we! :thumbsup2

I agree with Tracy. It depends on the child. My daughter rode it quite happily at 6. She surprised me. However, RnR is a very smooth ride and you aren't aware of the inverts unless you know they are there because both are quite soon (one almost immediately) after the initial launch. Being in the dark helps not to anticipate what lies ahead.

When DD was younger my approach was fairly simple:

You do not have to ride something you don't want to

We will not ride if you are afraid

If you aren't sure, you can give it a try and if you like it we keep riding again; if you don't, we don't have to come back.

I found with her that letting her make the decision gave her a sense of being in control. She was generally hesitant once we got to the boarding area of anything she was trying for the first time, and I would ask her one last time before they assigned us a row number if she was sure.

He is 8 and the thrill seeker, my 6 year old was too short but there is no way he would have liked it.

I run a you try it once rule with most things, food rides etc. he did Everest and dinosaur both of which he is pleased he can say he rode them, means he can join in conversations about them but he most certainly won't ride again on this trip I wouldn't think.

We went to chessington a few months back and I let him decide, because we were with another family with his wee friend being a bit shorter than him, and then had to listen to the regret for days because he didn't ride certain things and the "big" boys had.

thanks for the info!!!

as for thrill rides, DD happily rode space mountain when she was 6 and everything that came online after that..
on the other hand, DS wouldn't even ride splash mountain when he was 8...
took him a long time for anything thrilly..
but now you can't get him off of them!!!!!
