Live Streamers at Restaurants

If Disney or any other place doesn't specifically ban the practice, then they have every right to be there just as much as you do. Like you have never been near or next to a table of loud talkers or even worse a large group.

Being near loud talkers isn't the same as being next to a live streamer. The live streamer is putting everything out there to the world, no matter if they originated it or not. Imagine if you were at an adjacent table and having a conversation about your relatives. People in the restaurant don't know you or your relatives, but the live streamer putting it out to the world could include your relatives, or their friends, as their subscribers.

We ate at a WDW restaurant last week. We had a great spot but the tables were fairly close together.

We ended up next to a pair of live streamers. They ordered a bunch of items one at a time and shared them. They were there through our whole meal.

I don’t mind streamers in the parks where I can generally avoid them. But sitting next to them at a restaurant was a different experience. We felt like we couldn’t talk to each other because we didn’t want our conversation blasted out to people online.

What are your thoughts? Should Disney curb this practice or should we all just go with the flow?
I've never encountered any live streamers, either at the parks or at restaurants. So I'm totally unaware-what exactly did they do that was intrusive?

I don't watch live streams however I never talk about anything in public that would be considered personally sensitive. If people on the live stream want to hear about me talking about how I can't cook or my sons football game so what?

I have zero interest in being part of someone's livestream, whether actively or in the background, even if I'm not talking about something sensitive. I've felt the same when approached by people for random TV interviews but at least in that case I can tell them I'm not interested right away and move on.

Disney like most places is considered private property open to the public so there is no expectation of privacy. Disney has no obligation nor should it ask the vlogger to leave because it make's someone uncomfortable. It's not illegal to be in a vloggers video as long as you're not "featured" in any capacity.

My issue is calling out someone that's done nothing wrong.

Not a matter of legality. Movie theaters tell people who are talking on their phones to turn it off or leave all the time. How restaurants handle livestreamers is a matter of policy, they can decide what they allow and other patrons are allowed to critique their choices and recommend changes.

Rock and a hard spot for me. I find many of these videos helpful and have watched many. The people I watch do however record and then edit its not a livestream and they do a great job of not showing others in the background. But I can imagine sitting next to someone with a mini boom mic and putting on a show is super distracting.

I will add at casual table service eh whatever, but if I had chosen to eat somewhere expensive, quiet and fancy Id be mad.

Pull out your phone and play some popular music while they film. They can’t have that in their video because of copyright.

I have a playlist on my phone for this express purpose actually and I can't post what I call it on a family forum.

"Influencers" are absolutely ruining these parks tbqh even if a tiny handful of them are ethical and not inconsiderate grifters (I support a couple of them to encourage good behavior). I know that's sort of hilarious to post on a forum started by the pioneers in it but it's a hill I will absolutely die on and I don't care who gets mad. Probably the least millennial I feel is about this panopticon nonsense where you can't even go outside anymore without some dbag filming "content" and ending up online, and even if you set that aside most of them are boorish narcissists who only care about getting said content, and think nothing of other guests.

If you think that's harsh, I watched one of these dbags completely monopolize Mickey during those character pop ups at Early Entry they had as part of Cool Kid Summer. If you didn't experience it, these pop ups were random and not treated like a traditional M&G when you line up, the characters just sort of roamed with handlers interacting with guests for a time, and in 3 trips this summer that was the only time I ever saw Mickey out. This cow stood there with her dumb camera basically having a private video shoot with him for ages, completely oblivious or indifferent to the fact multiple people with small children wanted to go talk to him. It's been a long time since I've been that pissed off at people's behavior in the parks tbh and in hindsight I wish I would have said something. I was honestly too angry to think in the moment.

It's likely in the category of rude and annoying, but not 'illegal' or banned. So it's at the discretion of Disney whether or not to ask them to keep it down - and that's really down to how many complaints they get from other guests. It would annoy me if I were in a nice, signature type restaurant with a significant other trying to have a nice, high-end elegant meal...less so if I were at a casual eatery.

I think it would be smart o Disney to place such live streamers in the less desirable seats, where they're less likely to disturb nearby diners - placing them in a prime seating area with the best view was a poor decision since they're likely not even paying attention to the view - it's all about the food and their opinions/comments/talking. A table by the kitchen entrance, restroom hallway, or in a corner without a view would have been a smarter spot.

I certainly wouldn't go by the assumption that live streamers and bloggers are going to pay better tips - even when ordering many dishes, it's still up to the person how much they tip - and they could be cheap, low tippers, not believe in tipping, or not have that much extra money to tip big after ordering all the foods for their video. A couple on a nice, romantic night may get high-end cocktails, bottles of good wine, appetizers, entrees, desserts, after-dinner coffees, etc...and may end up with a bill nearly as high as the bloggers with their 5 entrees - and could be 20-30% tippers by default. But those big spenders and tippers could shave some tip off their meal if they were annoyed by yappy live streamers throughout their meal and the waitstaff expressed indifference.

That was exactly my point. The threshold for what’s considered annoying or rude varies widely from person to person—what bothers one person might not faze someone else. But if multiple people are feeling annoyed, then it’s probably a sign that something’s off.
