Live from the PC Terminal 8/2/11

I am confused too. I still have a 10:30-11:00 am check in time. I wanted to arrive at 10:30. Will they let me drop off luggage and park at 10:30am? seems ridiculous if not, given my documents say 10:30 am. Not to mention that, other than these boards, there has been no communication fro Disney on this.

Also, this cannot be fair unless the enforce assigned port arrival times!

Good question! We have to make 2 runs with the rental car between hotel and port to get all grandparents and luggage to the port, and then return the rental car. (We all have the 11:00-11:30 port arrival time.) DH was hoping to drop off the first 'wave' at 10:30, but it looks like they will not even let him in to 'drop off' that early...right??? I'm thinking that the whole fam-dam-ily may need to trek to the rental car place and ride their shuttle to the port if we have any hope of boarding together around 11:30. Does that sound about right?

My TA called and was told that all arrival time 10:30 - 11:00 am will become 11:00 am. There is a thread showing a message from DCL about the change but of course I haven't received any direct notice from DCL about this. I am planning to arrive at 11:00 am to avoid the long line. I hope when people know that the port will not open until around 11:00 am, the line of cars outside will get shorter and the boarding process will get more streamlined.

I think this is the key. If we, as DCL guests, are respectful of their request and their Port Arrival Time process, everything should work very smoothly. There will not be huge packs of people clogging the terminal waiting area or huge lines waiting for entry into the building because the staggered arrivals will keep this from happening (unless there is some sort of significant delay in clearing the ship between sailings). Therefore, DCL won't have to "enforce" the port arrival times because they won't need to further limit the guest flow into the terminal due to the staggered arrivals.

I do feel, however, that if large numbers of guests decide to arrive earlier than thier selected port arrival time, DCL will be forced to begin strictly enforcing the times. I'm sure they're hoping that we will all play nicely and follow the port arrival guidelines so that they don't have to become arrival time enforcers, but I think they will start enforcing the times if we force their hands.

Has anyone used Hertz there in PC? We're leaving Universal's Portofino Bay and driving straight to PC -- we'll need to gas up the car and then return it. Trying to figure out what time to leave so as to get to Hertz at a reasonable time and NOT have to wait for a bus (if we arrive and several buses ahead of us are full for example).

Thanks

not sure to post this here or not? but i have a friend sailing with us in a few weeks. we did the online checkin for our ressie, but i'm not sure if she is going to do the online checkin for herself. how does it work with port arrival times if she doesn't check in til she gets to the terminal?

Shannon, according to the message sent out by DCL they said that if someone in your group has a later arrival time, you should all show up at the latest time if you want to board together. If you are just a few weeks away, I would expect the earlier times to be taken by those who did their checkin when their booking window opened. They also said that anyone who didn't have an arrival time would wait in a seperate queue. According to the reports from the first day of this change, none of that actually happened...yet.

When is the next Dream cruise leaving Port Canaveral?

EDIT: OK, nevermind. I just looked at the PC webcam and the Dream is there. I hope someone posts live today.

Maybe they are being lenient with port arrival times, for the first few cruises after the change...?

I read it being said that DCL themselves claimed they will only start enforcing those times If and WHEN the terminal gets to full capcity without going over the fire code. THey would then not allow any more to enter till some passengers boarded and emptied the terminal by that amount, then that amount would be let INTO the terminal from the entrance. So far that has not had to happen. Is TODAY the 2nd cruise to happen with the new port time ?

Yes today is the 2nd cruise. So if this were to happen, a 2:00 person could possibly check-in before a 12:00 person and the 12:00 person could possibly be made to wait outside, that's messed up.
