Live From The Magic 9/18!!!!

Jan - question for you if you see this. You said you had Anne Marie - I'm curious. Is she by any chance from South Africa and had blond hair???? If so she was our assistant waiter last year and we loved her. She was great with the kids, even though the kids were 12 and 13. But we really liked her. So I'm just curious and I'm assuming when you said you had brunch you were talking about Palo????

Have a safe trip home!

I wish everyone departing the ship a safe trip home and
and everyone sailing next week a very pleasant trip.
Oh, I just don't understand people who complain about not visiting certain ports when the captain is only trying to keep them safe. I understand how disappointing it may be not to sail to CC but come on, the captain is responsible for all the passengers and crew. I would sail with Disney in a heartbeat during a hurricane, knowing how safe we would be during that time.
Please, there are more people in this world who can never experience a cruise, than there are people missing a certain port. Thinking of every homeowner in Florida who may need to deal with another hurricane. Be safe, everyone. - Lucy

The seas have become much calmer. It's still windy but we have some sun.

Jan...Thanks for the updates. Have a safe trip home. As exciting as it is at the possibility of another day, believe me, it is better staying on schedule.

Safe travels everyone

Hi Jan,
I am so glad that everyone is having a good time - now the latest I just heard is that the Magic will be here this evening just long enough to fuel up - NOONE WILL BE GETTING OFF AND NOONE WILL BE GETTING ON ----the Magic will be unloading at Port Everglades tomorrow morning --now to those that have gift baskets ordered - I am so very very sorry to have to disappoint each of you - if Norm and I could have gotten them to Ft Lauderdale, believe me we would have, but of course that is out of the question.
Anyhow hope all will be safe and Jan let me know how to get your phone to you.
Much love always
Shirley

Hello from the Magic!!!

We are getting off the ship at 10:30 p.m. tonight at Port Canaveral. The port is closing at midnight. DCL is offering transportation to WDW and we all have complimentary rooms and breakfast at the Swan and Dolphin. Also, we get 50% off our next cruise (use by 10/1/05). The Magic will sail out of Cape Canaveral as soon as we debark.

Mommasita is sitting next to me! Great family.

Dinner is at usual times as well as entertainment tonight.

Cruise04 -- Anne Marie is a cute blonde from South Africa. She's a sweetie.

That is cool Jan - that was one of our waitstaff last year. We really liked her and I never see anyone mention her so I thought maybe she left.

Have safe travels home!

WOW That's generous! Good for you!

I second that!!!

I wonder if there is any chance that the offer was misunderstood and will be 15%. While it would be nice, I find it difficult to believe that they would be giving a 50% discount for missing CC and getting in 8 hours early, but maybe I really am not understanding the situation in this particular case. If it truly is 50%, that is fantastic!

Hello: We are receiving a 50% discount. The letter we received in our staterooms this afternoon reads:

We have made arrangements with the WDW Swan and Dolphin Resorts for complimentary accommodations this evening as well as for breakfast tomorrow morning. Bus transportation to the Resort will be provided.

As a gesture of our concern that your vacation was not all that you have planned, we will be providing each guest with a 50% discount letter that can be appleid to the voyage fare on your next DCL vacation commencing prior to October 1, 2005.

Hello Everyone!

Sitting in the Promenade Lounge, listening to great live music, waiting to debark. Everyone I've talked to understands that Disney put safety as their #1 priority. Also, people are excited about the 50% discount.

People started getting off the ship about 30 minutes ago.

I just checked the Orlando International Airport website and it states that the airport is not expected to close.

As soon as all Magic passengers are off the ship, the ship is heading out to sea.

I will post again when I return to Michigan.

Jan

Thanks for all the LIVE posts. Have a safe trip home

Meant to write this earlier, Too late now, but if you read this and see Monica the stateroom host in room 5520. Tell her Joanna from the 8/28/04 10 day cruise says hi.

Thx again Jan, safe travels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello. I just got in not long ago from this sailing. I'll do a real trip report later but here is some info.

The first few days were wonderful. Nice weather. Good times.
We went to Antigua first. We took a taxi to Jolly Beach Resort.
It was incredibile. I highly recommend. It was 41 dollars per adult. This included continental breakfast, full buffet lunch and all you can drink (it is an all inclusive resort.) It was white sand beaches. Umbrella huts everywhere, included in price. Amazing pool right next to the beach. It was quite empty. I think we were the only ones from the boat there. Everyone else were regular guests. WONDERFUL! It was 4 adults and 2 kids in our group. We loved it.

St. Thomas was nice although not as fun as Antigua. We did Coral World (it was VERY VERY HOT) and the water was very cloudy due to storms and the beaches were very rough so we didn't swim. We did enjoy taking the tram and the very pretty views. It was a lovely place. I'd like to go back and do a beach or snorkeling excursion.

The nightmare day was Thursday. The water was incredibly rough. I have been on 6 cruises, 5 of them in hurricane season and this was by far the worst I have experienced. My whole family was sick, as was it seemed about 90% of the boat. Even a lot of the staff were ill. The pool was closed, you could hardly walk due to the rocking. My poor little girl (4 yrs old) threw up all morning. We had our character breakfast that morning which ended up being a bust. Many of the children in the room, including our whole table, had to leave very shortly after it started due to feeling ill.
We tried to make the most of it and strayed out of the cabin by afternoon (my daughter and I anyway...DH was sick in the cabin all day.) We saw the Princess Diaries 2 which was a good distraction. We did make it to dinner and Disney Dreams which also was a good distraction from the misery. We tried to keep our attitudes good.

We found our Thursday evening the Castaway Cay was canceled. We were are sorely dissappointed as that is always THE HIGHLIGHT of the cruise, and we were especially looking forward to it just to get off the waves and on solid land.

Friday got much better. The waves were improved. The pools were open. We ended up enjoying the day very much. We had dinner in Palos and had the the unusual experience of watching the boat cruise toward shore and pull up to port as we dined.

We pulled in about 8:30 pm. We were left off the boat about 10:30 pm. We didn't get checked in at the Dolphin until 1:30 AM! They couldn't handle the volume and it went poorly.

The Dolphin is nice. We slept HARD in their wonderful soft beds.

We made it out of MCO before it shut down! My thoughts and prayers are with the Floridians.

Overall it was a mixed bag. We had some awesome times and some gruesome times. Oh well. Something we'll never forget...and YEAH 50% off a future cruise!

Texasgirl, I must disagree with you. I thought DCL handled the situation at the Dolphin very well. We drove from the ship and when we got to the Dolphin we walked into the large room, where they had a room and key AND another apology letter waiting under your last name initial. All you had to do was go to your LARGE and SPACIOUS room and crash onto those big soft beds. Not bad for handling 2300 people!
The icing on the cake (except for the unbelievaible 50% discount on our next cruise. whoohoo) was the COOKED breakfast the next morning in a HUGE room for all the cruisers. DCL did not have to do this (most hotels give you stale muffins!) but they did. They even valet parked our car as our 3 and 5 yr olds were out cold (both of them threw up all day Thursday too). This allowed us to get them straight to bed.

On another note Jan and Dave(the blue oval!) were still at the Dolphin, when we left at 11am, as their flights were canceled. They booked for a few more nights at the Dolphin and were in great spirits. I think they were heading for the parks. It was great meeting them and also Gail and her DH.
We had a great time dispite the 14 feet waves. It was kinda funny laying in your room listening to all the sliding closet doors slaming from side to side in all the rooms around you.
Seeing the waves in the Mickey pool was also amazing. By Friday morning there was only about 6" left in the pool.

The highlight of my cruise was Princess Aurora singing(in an amazing voice) "I know you" to my DD3. I was video taping this at one of the photo ops and that Magical Disney moment hit me like a ton of bricks. My eyes welled up and tears started streaming down my face. I guess a dad seeing his little girl (also dressed up, crown and all, like a princess) with her favourite "sweepin booty" was just too much for me. What an unforgetable moment!

It sounds like you drove yourself and it went smoothly. The problem was with the Disney tranports. We sat in front of the dolphin for an hour at least with sleepy kids throughout the bus howling. They wouldn't let anyone off the bus. We just sat and waited and waited and waited while they tried to sort through the buses and get all the luggage off. It was total disorganization. Once we actually were permited to leave the bus jail and get inside it went smoothly. The room itself was very nice although all we did was crawl in bed since it was 1:30 am.
