Well, it's about time ya'll got on this thread! Everyone's been dying to know how things turned out with the youngun'...he is still alive I hope!!! You're part of why I've been hangin' on and lurkin'... ::yes::

Hey John and Julie! :earsgirl:

It's so good to hear from you. We wondered if you were going to make a 'surprise' return with the 1000th post, and you only missed it by one as the 1100th.

A reunion would be great. Willie had mentioned New Orleans. What's everyone doing spring break? We're actually going on RCCL (booked quite a while ago with some neighbor friends.) It's actually another western, but goes to Belize, and MAYBE we'll get to see Grand Cayman. :rotfl2: There's still availability! It's sailing out of Miami March 12th.

Good Morning Y'all:

Pam - Yep, we are booked for the week after Thanksgiving (Eastern). Maria and Charlie are going on the Thanksgivig Cruise, we were planning on standing outside and harrassing them as they get off. (j/K)

John & Julia: Im so glad to see that you are back. Hunter asks constantly if you are going to be on the next cruise. I said not this one, but the next one. We all miss you guys.

With dd in high school next year, I m worried it will be hard for her to miss a whole week, as opposed to 2 days otherwise the week after would be a great choice!!

(how ironic that i was writing this while on hold to TA, and he just asked if I was flexible and wanted to look at rates for week after Thanksgivng- WOW!! it would be $2000 cheaper- maybe I better call DH and think about it!! )

In reply to your comment to John and Julia about maybe next time..... maybe the med cruise will be a go!!!!

Hey Willie and John....remember talking about going on a ski trip? And I asked "why would I fly out of freezing Chicago to land somewhere cold?" I found this post elsewhere and it sums up my thoughts on skiing! :rotfl2:

Pre Ski Exercises...

The ski season is not to far off... This list of exercises will help you get ready...

Visit your local butcher and pay $30 to sit in the walk-in freezer for half an hour. Afterwards, burn two $50 dollar bills to warm up.

Soak your gloves and store them in the freezer after every use.

Fasten a small, wide rubber band around the top half of your head before you go to bed each night.

If you wear glasses, begin wearing them with glue smeared on the lenses.

Throw away a hundred dollar bill - RIGHT NOW!

Find the nearest ice rink and walk across the ice 20 times in your ski boots carrying two pairs of skis, accessory bag and poles. Pretend you are looking for your car. Sporadically drop things.

Place a small but angular pebble in your shoes, line them with crushed ice, and then tighten a C-clamp around your toes.

Buy a new pair of gloves and IMMEDIATELY THROW ONE AWAY!

Secure one of your ankles to a bedpost and ask a friend to run into you at high speed.

Go to McDonald's and insist on paying $8.50 for a hamburger. Be sure you are in the longest line.

Clip a lift ticket to the zipper of your jacket, get on a motorcycle and ride fast enough to make the ticket lacerate your face.

Drive slowly for five hours - anywhere - as long as it's in a snowstorm and you're following an 18-wheeler.

Fill a blender with ice, hit the pulse button and let the spray blast your face. Leave the ice on your face until it melts. Let it drip onto your clothes.

Slam your thumb in a car door and don't bother to go see a doctor.

Repeat all of the above every Saturday and Sunday until you're ready for the real thing!

Lampy, that was too funny! :rotfl2: :rotfl:

It's ironic, I've dropped hints about us taking a ski vacation (I haven't skiied, uh, ATTEMPTED to in 30 years) because I thought Rachel might enjoy it. Rob's balked, because of many of the reasons you mentioned. His idea of vacations are sun, water, and more sun and water. :confused3

Maybe one day! :earsgirl:

Kim is leaving tomorrow to go to our neighbors cottage in the UP with a couple of the neighbor ladies and ski....their place is in a resort called Chrystal Mountain. It's going to be 50 here....naaaaa the cold DEFINATELY is not for me....give me blue sky, and white sand beaches!!

John and Julia-Welcome Back!! We missed you!!

Lampskie-I love your ski story!! I need to print it for Chuck. He and Mason love to ski--we are going to Steamboat for a week in March. I prefer sun, sand and water!!

I will be going to Winter Park, CO this Friday-Monday, but I won't be skiing much. It is our "BEER, POKER, AND FISHING" weekend for the guys. Except we won't be fishing. We get together a couple of times a year. Guys only. NO, TCD, not that Brokewhatever Mountain stuff!

We usually go to Lake Fork here in Texas, but one of the guys lives in Denver now, and he just bought a weekend mountain home in Winter Park.

Dubbya- I believe you-I know that you an Ron are committed to each other after that ceremony on CC ;) , so I'm sure there won't be any funny business on your trip with the guys.

The DW and I have been to Winter Park a couple of times. It is a nice place, and very convenient to Denver. Have a good time. I will be here in Florida. It was 80 when I drove in to the office this afternoon. :sunny:

Lampy, your description of skiing is right on. I'm going to stay where it is warm.

Oh year, thanks for checking in with us 5J John! Don't be a stranger!

Kim left today for Chrystal Mountain Michigan to go skiing "with the girls". Our neighbor has a "Chalet" in the resort....Guess that means I'll be "babysitting" :rotfl2: ...I think Jessica asked, "does this mean we have to watch Dad?" :rotfl:

Ain't it great to get paybacks!?! Now they have to babysit US! :rotfl2:

Hello Turkeys - I wanted to start off by saying that I fully enjoyed the varied and exuberant accounts of your cruise. I would therefore like to officially invite you to join us on the November 25th 2006 Magical Eastern Cruise. We have already been joined by a few of your fellow cruisers and would love to see some more. Just think of the beer you could buy with the price difference btwn the 'official' Turkey cruise and our 'Tryptophan-induced-coma Cruise'. OK, so the name needs a little work, but nonetheless we'd love to see 'ya. ::yes::

In the interest of helping the Big Easy recover from Hurricane Katrina, I propose a Turkey Reunion there this year. It may even be tax deductible as hurricane relief! . Not that I would take an improper deduction or anything :rolleyes1

who would be in?

Hey everybody!
We're back...Now a New Orleans reunion sounds like fun!!! Just let us know when!! We've never been to the Big Easy, but have always wanted to go!
Just caught up on posts, welcome back 5J's (there are still 5 right??) John, you never did answer about your son.... :confused3

Lampy, that was too darn funny! We had talked about going on a short N.C. ski trip when our kids are out of school for winter break #2 (we're on a "modified year-round" school schedule where they are out 6 wks. DURING school, only 8 during summer). DS & I want to learn to snowboard, DH used to ski pretty well but has developed QUITE the aversion to cold weather...so he's gonna LOVE that post!! We opted for warmer weather & are now going south that week to work on our place off Dairen, GA. Although I'd love to learn a new sport like snowboarding...I just have to imagine there's way too much truth to your analogy!! :rotfl:

hi all..........i feel very out of this loop - too much to catch up on here but i guess i should offer my congratulations to ron and willie? :teeth:

laurie -- i can vouch there is a John in the 5Js my 13 y/o DD brought a crush on him home with her --- smoochie smoochie --- oohhhh ddddddear (my best pooh impression)

Dutchsmom,
thanks for the invite! You sound like you have the Turkey mindset. You will have a great time. Dutch sounds like a lucky kid.

Willie

Helpful hint for ya- Don't let Tonya and Trey bring cheese wiz on the snorkel excursion. I showed em some mean tricks with it. Almost as bad as chips in the speedo.

Willie - Funny you should mention Snorkeling at CC. I have that shirt on today. I guess to keep up tradition, I will make sure to include Cheeze Wiz on my packing list.

We will be joining Tonya and Trey on 11/25 cruise- hey maybe we should leave a little note in a designated place on the ship for you guys to find- (maybe under a bartable, you know, kind of like chewing gum) to see if they really do clean everything top to bttom!! Pam
