live from I 81

In the minivan are dh and I as well as our 4 kids. Spomgebob is playing on the dvd.

We left nj at around 3:30am, now we are in virginia@8. The road is beautiful! So much nicer than 95 so far, there were construction cones up near PA but we drove.by before they were working-don't know if that would be an issue later on.

Thanks for the update!!! We will be heading from NJ in August and the more people post about the great ride on I81, the more I am leaning towards taking it instead of 95! Thanks again and have a GREAT trip!!!

We are traveling to the autotrain in Lorton next month. I think we're going to brave the I-95 route down.

I-81 would be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy out of your way for the Autotrain.
The secret for the Autotrain from NJ is not to leave too early and get to DC AFTER rush hour, not before not during. We leave about 7 and that puts us in DC about 11, Lorton 11:30, time for a nice lunch before we head to the terminal and boarding.

That's our plan, 95 south, I'm shooting for 6am, knowing full well it may be close to 7am. D is returning to college in Orlando so we're taking her car, with my youngest D. I'm sure there will be plenty of last minute items she's going to be tossing in the trunk the morning of.
