We checked into a 1BR at AKV last nite. We have a Savannah view room looking out over the Azima savannah. The view is great - we're on the 5th floor - and we have no obstructions. We have seen Eland, giraffes, wildebeast, Thompsons gazelle, zebra and a number of other animals so far.
Cxheck-in was OK, but we did have about a 15 minute wait arriving at 7:30pm as there were only 2 front desk stations open with a long line. As with reports about BCV - this resort has a ways to go when serving both AKL guests and AKV guests. We have found a number of positives and some disappointments.
Our villa was clean - except for fingerprints on some of the framed artwork in the living room. The decor is nicely themed but has a "heavy" feel to it - creating a crowded atmosphere in the villa. The view is wonderful and well worth the savannah view points. The HD flat screen TVs are wonderful. The granite counter tops in the kitchen are really nice. We like the themed dishware.
Disappointments - the 1BR feels a lot smaller than other DVC resorts - and we've stayed at all 8 now. I suspect this is in part due to the "heavy" furniture but also due to the conversion of the original rooms. There is very little closet space - one front closet which is also home to the vacuum, packnplay and ironing board and a small armoire I the bedroom with 7 hangars total. The BR feels small with the bed, desk and chair in addition to the armoire.
The bathroom was disappointing compared to other 1BRs since there is no separate shower and the jacuzzi is a regular sized tub with air jets and includes the shower head. I realize this will be different in the Kidani units and is different than the models at the sales center but was still disappointing. The fridge is not full sized and has no ice maker. There are e astic ice cube trays in the freezer.
Parks are not crowded now. There are two HUGE cranes at the CR construction site. On the monorail they stated that this is an addition to the CR (no mention of DVC).
We head out on Sat for a 7 nite cruise to Belize and I do not have the laptop on this trip. I,m typing this on a Blackberry and apologize for any spelling errors.
We ran into Jim C in the Hallway here at AKV today - it was good to see him again.
Hopefully the rooms at Kidani will offer a different feel than the Jambo rooms. The sleep-chair is OK but does take up a lot of space in the living room. The extra bath will be nice in the Kidani rooms as well.as the larger bathroom with nicer shower. We will likely try a 1BR again once Kidani opens but won't likely stay at Jambo again.
I will have very limited access until we get home after the cruise and have no way to post photos either until then.
We have dinner tomorrow at Jiko and are looking forward to that event.
