in the buffet!
I read occasionally that people don't care for buffets because of unsupervised children grabbing food out of the buffet.

How prevelant is this disgusting occurence? Doesn't Disney have CM's stationed by the food areas?

2 of my main ADR's are buffets and I am getting grossed out and a little concerned.
We have dinner at Chef Mickey's, breakfast at Crystal Palace!

I guess what I don't get is how this would be any different than any bufffet you have ever been to?
Lots of people.. some children.. and maybe some touching the food.
I don't think it's exclusive to Disney.
And if it is that abhorrent to you I would suggest table service.

Gotta admit- it grosses me out, too.

I'll either use a napkin to lift the handles or go wash my hands before I eat...but that's just because I can't assume everyone is as vigilant about washing their hands as I am.

It isn't just little sticky fingers, but big sticky fingers as well. I think the adults are worse than the kids at some of the buffets we have been to.

I work in an elementary school. If gross children made me queesy, I'd have died from a heart attack by now. If you've ever taken mass transit, used a public restroom, or been to a sporting event, I'm sure you've been exposed to worse. Plus, you may feel safer eating at a TS, but you don't know what goes on in the kitchen.

I'm not saying that parents shouldn't be diligent about making sure their kids are acting appropriately, just that worrying about it will probably lead to more health problems than actually eating from a buffet.

We've eaten at mostly buffets both our trips, and have never seen children grabbing food out of the buffet.:confused3. I can't even get my kids to walk with me up to the buffet--they're too busy at the table watching for characters. I think that's probably the case with many kids.

I'm sure it happens--just like any other buffet--but it's not like it's a common occurence.

If you see a kid stick their hands in the food, tell a staff member. They will replace the dish immediately.

Little sticky fingers, big sticky fingers - one of the PP 's was right - be vigilant but don't think about it or you'd never go anywhere!

That said - in our more recent visits, the buffets have totally lost their appeal for me. - and I do love my food! Since we've been going in 2001, food quality has gone way down and the large quantities gross me out! We still love characters and the interaction, but it's certainly not alot of bang for the buck on DDP and there is much better food to be hand on property.

DH and I go to alot of breakfast buffets and a few dinner ones at WDW and the youngest I have seen helping themself is about 10 or so and even then the parent is right with them. I wouldnt worry about it.

Generally, there are no employees constantly watching the buffet lines. They are nearby, but it would be easy for them to miss something.

I'm one of those folks who believes that that which does not kill me makes me stronger, so I don't worry too much about it. But, if the thought of other guests touching your food gives you the heebie-jeebies, you might want to reconsider the buffet character meals, and go with a family service or pre-plated meal instead. These include 'Ohana breakfast, Liberty Tree dinner, Garden Grill lunch and dinner, and CRT breakfast and lunch. Akershus (B, L, and D) almost fits this category; the first course is a cold buffet, but the main course and dessert are pre-plated.

The only time I have seen kids grab things from the buffet has been at the kids area of the buffet. The thing that grosses me out the most is the adults that put something on their plate and then pick it up with their fingers to eat it while waiting in line at the buffet. After that they pick up the next set of tongs with the same hand that they stuck the food in their mouth with

Little kids probably can't reach the adult portions of the buffet w/o assistance anyway, so really it would only be older kids. By that age, they should be as good (or bad) as adults. I don't think this is a *kid* problem, just a *buffet* thing.

after going over menus and restaurants and the like for our grand gathering last year, my niece informed me at the last minute that she (a PRESCHOOL TEACHER!) doesn't do buffets 'cause the thought of little (and big) fingers touching her food grosses her out... GREAT... we had a few scheduled... she agreed to try...

what she basically did was stick w/the "made to order" stuff like the omlettes at breakfast and the carving station type stuff at dinner... she survived!! so, to the OP... if you don't want to change your ADRs, you might consider her strategy... it worked well for her :)
