Little Smokies

Got a whole package of little smokies in the freezer. I almost forgot about them. Bought them a while back on deep discount from Costco. They are decidedly not "diet friendly" but man are they tasty. LOL.

I can find them locally, but they're not that big. Certainly not Hillshire Farm big.

We have some local brands that didn't sell out. I'm pretty sure that Evergood, Miller's, and Aidells aren't that well known outside of Northern California. Saag's did sell out to Hormel and now they're gone.

We have Aidells in MA. I think at first it was only at Costco, but regular grocery stores have them now.

Here in SW PA we take our pierogies seriously. Also chipped ham, Heinz ketchup, and kielbasa and sauerkraut. We have lil smokies in the grocery stores but I've never purchased them. I don't know if this is specific to my area but literally everyone has a favorite bakery, and not everyone has the same favorite bakery so there are endless arguments/debates about them. It's one of those topics you try to avoid to keep gatherings civil, like religion and politics.

So I opened our fridge, after my wife's last harrowing trip to the grocery store, and what did I find? 2 packages of little smokies! So we're doing a Sunday afternoon picnic in the yard, chomping down on the goodness that is tiny smoked cocktail hotdogs, cooked in BBQ sauce. I've lived in many places in the US, but have only seen Little Smokies in Minnesota. I'm not sure if it is just a MN thing, or a midwest thing, but never saw them when I was living outside of MN. And here in MN, people take their little smokies quite seriously.

So what sacred snacks/meals do you have in your area, that you don't see other than locally? Here in MN, it is probably enjoying a plate of tater-tot hotdish with a side of little smokies (fished out of a crock-pot with a tooth pick) , while watching the kids in the yard play Duck, Duck, Grey Duck.
I am in Minnesota, but I have Little Smokies when I lived in Ohio too.

Lil Smokies are the best way to make Pigs in a Blanket. They are a staple of Christmas at mom’s house in GA.

and are going on my shopping list . . .
We make those on Christmas morning for breakfast too. The kids and my sister are in charge of that. We use shredded cheddar cheese and Pillsbury crescent rolls. They put a couple of smokes and some cheese on a crescent roll and wrap them up. After they've been in the oven for awhile we sprinkle some more cheese on top. My DH likes to put jalapenos in his but he's the only one.

TIL: Lil' Smokies are way less special than I thought.

But is there anywhere else in the country that plays Duck, Duck, Grey Duck, instead of Duck, Duck, Goose? :p

Nope! And I don't either LOL, and I get yelled at a lot when I say that :-)

You're missing out! I play it all the time. My wife and kids think I am nuts, and the ducks and geese in the local pond are terrified of me.

Is that related to the great game of "Red Rover" AKA "Clothesline the scrawny kid (MarkLT1) over, and over, and over again"?

We used to make little smokies in the crockpot with chili sauce and grape jelly. Addicting!

Chicago. I don't know...does anyone else use giardiniera as much as we do? I even mix it in my mashed potatoes.
Italian Beef sandwiches
Chicken Vesuvio (I honestly thought every Italian restaurant had this on the menu and then I was corrected over on the restaurants board. Apparently it's a Chicago thing)
:thanks:I had actually never heard of it before but your post intrigued me! I googled it and made an adapted version for dinner tonight. Other than having to clean up splattered olive oil from every surface in my kitchen, it was a BIG winner!

Here in Wisconsin we love our fried cheese curds and Korbel Brandy Old Fashioneds. I prefer mine sweet with a Sprite floater.

Aww darn! I'm down to two packages of the smokies. I may need to... ration.
