Little Annoyances.

Two little gripes, or maybe not even gripes. Property taxes are due by July 31st. I do not part "with one dime before its time" so I took my addressed envelopes, checks enclosed to the Town Hall today. There was a line for the tax collector. People were standing there, tax bills in hand, check book in hand, ready to pay their taxes. Doesn't it make sense to total your taxes at home, right out the check and put it in the appropriate envelope. I had one for Motor Vehicle property taxes, one for trash disposal and one envelope for Sewer Use. I found out that there is a slot for taxes in envelopes with checks. Why do people stand in line with their bills and their check books?
Gripe number two. I live in somewhat of a rural/suburban community with farming. Many of the roads are routes. There is route 75, Route 159., Route 187. You get the picture. These roads are to get from one side of town to another. The speed limit is 45 mph. Why don't tractors, traveling at 10 mph pull over so the 30 cars behind them can get where they are going?

This is my gripe. On a 4 lane highway the right lane is the PASSING lane. Why do some people not use that lane to pass? My father said it is people who's parents did not drive that do this. :moped:

Ok.. here's my annoyance related to 'never paying a dime before its time'

yesterday my Disney Visa bill was due. I always pay my bills online the day they are due or the night before. In any case, I went to make my payment online and because it was after 4pm, they were going to charge me a 'convenience' fee of $14.95 to make sure it posted to my account that day. I guess it's been a while since I actually waited until the due date to pay it... but what a SCAM! If I choose not to pay, then my payment posts the next day, at which point they will charge me a late fee. I have no idea what the late fee charge is, but it's probably more than $14.95...

Clearly, 'clever tricker' is a highly sought-after skill in hiring new bankers... :lmao:

And yes... i sucked it up and agreed to pay the $14.95 $%#$^&*

I've never heard of the RIGHT lane being the PASSING lane. The right lane is usually the slow lane...no?

Same here - I've never heard of the right being the passing lane, though I don't hesitate to use it as such when some slowpoke is clogging up the left lane. :rotfl:

First off...what in the world is a motor vehicle property tax?? Don't you pay tax when you buy it and thats it?? Our taxes are due Jan 31st and the bill comes with the Christmas cards in Dec..Merry Christmas, you owe us 7,000 LOL....the second half is due May 31st...I end up waiting until the week before to pay them when the line is out the door!

I'm not positive on the right lane passing rule, but when I lived in Chicago and my Mom taught me to drive (of course this could have just been her rule), I was taught that you could pass on the right as long as it was a 6 lane highway or more.

What state has the right lane as a passing lane? Here in NY the left lane is the passing lane.

Our tiny ity bity little town in South Central Ma...is now all ONLINE!!!

Yippee Skippee...because just like you...I do NOT part with one cent before it is due...I used to send the DS' down to the Town Hall on the DUE DATE...now I do it all from my computer at home...and YUP, this is so shocking for our town!!! We can pay easily all our town service bills!!!

BTW: Thanks, Dawn, for the reminder as mine are due August 1st. I will be :surfweb: paying them Monday sometime!! :thumbsup2

You can pass on the right if there are two or more lanes in MN.

If there are 3 lanes or more the middle lanes are the driving lanes, the far right lane is for entering and exiting, the left lane is for passing.

Sorry, never heard of that one either! Here you buy a car, pay tax on it ...then just have it register it for like 35.00 a year. How much is this exise tax and what states do they do this....boy another whole world was opened by reading the DIS LOL...I never ever knew about anything like A HOA that could tell you what to do with your own house and property until I started reading on here either, or giving actual gifts at weddings instead of cash LOL.

We live in a fairly rural area with farming as well Dawn, and here in Ma. there are some roads that even though they are well traveled are designated as " farming districts ", and all farm vehicles have the right of way. The worst is when you get stuck behind a manure spreader :faint:

Here in CT you do pay motor vehicle property tax every year. Of course, you do also pay the sales taxes, etc. when you buy the car, plus your registration fees every few years, and a fee to make sure your car meets emission standards. Generally, of course, the car tax does decrease from year to year as the value of the car declines.....unless your municipality raises taxes. Another little twist is that you receive a credit on your state income tax for a small amount of property taxes, whether auto or car, up tp $350.

What I didn't realize is that some towns charge a separate trash and sewer tax. Ours is all part of our property tax, I guess, as we don't pay for trash pick-up. (Once weekly. We do have to pay if we bring bulk trash to the dump. A few years ago we did not have to pay for bulky trash, such as furniture, and even more years ago the town would pick it up for free twice a year. These changes makes it tough on the elderly and people with no access to a truck.)

Our garbage is in our taxes too...they pick up 4 times a week, once for garbage, once for papers and cans, once for yard waste and once for trash and bigger things...for things like a couch or fridge etc you call them and they give you a date to have it out and they come and get it in a special truck (usually within 3 days ) but its all included in your tax and we dont have to bring anything anyplace.
