Litte Miss Perfect, Toddlers and Tiaras....

It's like a train wreck but I can't stop watching.

What in the world is wrong with these people. Can anyone honestly tell me those little girls with the overdone hair and the "sassy" moves look like little girls.

My one ds came in as I was watching it and he said it made him sick. He said it felt like these mothers were putting their kids in "kiddie porn".

The only time I ever felt sorry was for the family who couldn't keep up with all the money the other girls spent and had the snake for the little girl. I really was hoping they would win something.

THese mothers all seem like beauty queen wannabees. And don't even get me started on the "director" and the judges. BTW How many Little Miss Perfects are there? It seems like there must be one a month.

I would never, ever let my girls in anything like that.

lilmissdisney~ Good luck!!

I have a 7 year old niece who LOVES to get all dolled up and after the first time my dd and I saw the show we both thought of my niece and said she would LOVE to try something like this... (does that make me a scary pageant Aunt??)
If I had the money (and if my db and dsil would let me) I would seriously think of entering her *just once* to see if she liked it.

I will say, I don't know that pageants are really any different then any other activity that we allow our children to do.

My oldest dd dances. She has plenty of *sexy* type costumes and wears a lot of make up so you can see it while she is on stage
My middle dd shows dogs. after her entry fees, trying to find a suit for a child to wear. (granted she doesn't look like a hooker, more like a professional, if you don't look at her shoes!!) and all the running around I do taking her to shows. Not to mention buying the dog for her. It all adds up.
Youngest one plays softball, I have seen how much involved it will get if she decides to try out for a travel team.

kids activities add up quickly. Yes, my kids all enjoy their activites, but if I had cameras following me around as we did these activites you would probably find me yelling at them too.

I have to admit I do have a different understanding of these pageants now that I have seen them and I don't think it is as bad as it seems. Just like anything else, as long as the kids enjoy it. And I really do believe in every activity there is for kids you will find *pageant* Moms and Dads!!

The dollar amounts for prizes go as high as 5,000 dollars CASH for the overall winner and as low as about 100.00 for the smaller awards (ads and what not). The pageant is going to be in Austin, Texas November 6-7 2009. I will most definately keep you guys posted on what is going on pageant prep wise. I'm really excited and extremely nervous for Sunburst states this May and for the pageant in November.

I only watch Toddlers & Tiaras and I can't stop. It makes me crazy some weeks but it's like a trainwreck! Some of these moms are pathetic and way over the top. I HATE the "glitz" pageants that make the little girls look like hookers. Fake teeth, nails, hair, tan, lashes and heavy make-up do NOT belong on 4 year olds!!! And those dresses look ridiculous. I mean honestly, what is the deal with the tutu thing on the bottom and all the crystals on the top???? It's just weird. What really gets me is that half the people they show obviously should be spending the money elsewhere.

One the episode last nite the Mom (I think Sabrina's?) asked her if she wanted to come back next month and try again.

We'll cheer you on from here! :cheer2:

I have a friend who won the Miss United States title a few years ago. She was also a Carolina Panthers cheerleader. She loved the pageant circuit but I don't know how old she was when she started competing.

OH and someone PLEASE tell the overtanned fake blonde judge on LMP to wear something with straps because her outfit always seems to be hovering within an inch of being indecent!

I think that must be why she carries the stupid little dog with her - to cover up her girls in case of wardrobe malfunction! ;) Although given the size of them, she may be smarter to carry a lab or golden retriever.

I am appallingly fascinated with these shows too! Always have been - remember the show several years ago, Living Dolls? With Swan Brooner and her whole sad family?

You know, I'm no beauty queen my ownself, but it amazes me that so many of the moms on these shows hardly even brush their hair! If I were going to be on TV, I think I'd make at least an effort to not look slovenly.

The whole concept just makes me sad - all these pathetic Holiday Inn conference rooms with a crappy little stage and thousands of dollars spent on dresses and spray tans and flippers and entry fees and hairpieces. Some of these pageant directors should be ashamed of themselves.

I totally agree. I can at least kinda understand the concept if there are big prizes (cash, cars, etc.) but the second to last one I saw on T&T was a "non-cash" pageant.

So, all these people spent all this money to take their kids to this sad Hampton Inn ballroom where they dressed them up like kewpie doll hookers to have them judged by 3 people of absolutely no consequence so they can get a cheap tiara.

One of the episodes described a judge as "a local businessman" and I'm thinking great, the guy who owns the Jiffy Lube on the corner is somehow qualified to judge a pageant. So basically it's personal opinion only.

If there isn't cash involved, why would someone go through all that to parade their kid around like a show filly to have some random person tell them who is prettiest? I just dont get it at all.

I can live with the "natural" pageants. They strike me as merely pointless, but hey, it's a free country. They also satisfy every justification for why people think pageants are worthwhile--confidence, enjoying performing and getting dressed up, etc.

In my opinion there is absolutely no reason for the glitz pageants at all whatsoever. It's kind of sick.

BTW, I also noticed the abundance of unkempt and frumpy moms. I'm no beauty queen myself, but it just screams of trying to live through your kids. Maybe if they ran a brush through their hair and bought a flattering outfit they might not seem quite so sad.

I watched Living Dolls many times as well. I find all of this incredibly (yet strangely) fascinating.

My best friend's daughter used to do pagents as a baby. This was before I knew them. She stopped when her DD was 2yo I think. We watch these shows every week. Me for the train wreck factor... her for old times sake. I love to hear her "insider" take on things.... that dress would never win, the hair needed to be ___, etc.

If you want to see something scary go to www.tonioverby.com and look at the color photo's etc. They are step-ford like. This is what you have to do to your kids pics to win Most Photogenic etc.

It seems to me, the moms go through it to make themselves feel special.

The frumps can't probably can't afford to dress themselves, get their hair done, or afford Weight Watchers because they have to pay for:

costumes- I'm betting clothes for 1 pageant costs $2000-$3000.
dancing, singing ,modelling lessons
manicures and pedicures if the wow wear includes sandals or bare feet
pageant coaches
fake tans
hairpieces
makeup application
pageant fees
getting to the pageant
hotels
photos
I'm sure that I'm forgetting something. They do all this because they love their kids. Dropping dead from a stroke or a heart attack because they don't take care of themselves won't help their daughters.

I watched the show for the very first time last night. Wow! I agree with what everyone has said here. Here are a few of my thoughts:

--All of the girls look like they come from lower-middle class families. The outfits are incredibly expensive. The Mom's don't look like they work and traveling around must get expensive too. How could the cost be worth the benefit???

--Why weren't there any people in the audience except family members? It seems really weird that they have a pageant and nobody is there.

--One little girl said "when I grow up I want to be Miss America, if I can't be that I want to be a doctor or a veterinarian". I find that sad because clearly the parents aren't helping her at all to move in an academic direction. If you want your kids to be bright (which would lead to a professional career), you have to put similar effort into exposing them to all kinds of knowledge and learning.

--The contrast between these cute little girls and their Mom's who look like they never saw a mirror is amazing. What's up with that?

--I want to see a '20 years later' show and see how these girls manage as adults. Do they go to college? Do they get married young and start the process over with their babies in pageants? What is their relationship like with their Mom? Do they regret all that time and money that was spent, or was it all worth it?

i've watched both shows. they are strangely fascinating to me. i'm from the south, and noticed that most of these are filmed down here. i'm sort of a frumpy mom and can't imagine standing up in the audience coaching like they do. it does seem that they are trying to live through their children.:scared1: i agree with a previous poster who equated the money spent to many other activities - sports, music, dance, etc. it's obvious that many can't really afford to do this. i can't even begin to comment on the judges and "Mr. Perfect"'s singing. :scared1:

There was a show on recently that showed 2 girls 10 years later. One girl had quit pagents and was at a private boarding school. Doing very well and had clearly moved on. The other was still doing pagents and was still waiting for that one big win. She had started coaching little ones as well but I still found it sad.

I totally agree with your post.

It just seems to me to be such a huge waste of time and money. The money could be spent on so many other things that could really enrich these children's lives in a much more positive way. Things like sports, ballet lessons, music lessons, oh, and COLLEGE. Do these girls have college funds? Okay, so maybe they may win a couple of dollars here and there in "scholarship" money. The money they have shelled out to even enter these pageants is staggering. Check out this list of fees for the Universal Royalty Pageant: http://www.universalroyalty.com/national_entry_form.htm

I don't understand why anyone would enter their child into one of these things, really.

Oh, and that Pro-am stuff? Totally bizarre.

That is done on purpose to keep out the pedophiles. Generally, only the contestants' families are permitted in the room. :headache:

What irks me most about this rule is that if it's only going to be families, they should clap for every child and put a quick end to the shouting, screeching, wolf whistles, etc. when their kid hits the stage. :rolleyes1

Isn't that the big argument against these things..... the pedophile aspect? If that is truly the rule then the pageants themselves recognize why people are so up in arms.

I see. That makes sense. But then why is it on national television for the whole population to see, including pedophiles? How could parents encourage their children to be exposed to an industry that attracts them? UGH :sad2:

This gets me too. There's no way I am standing up in public and looking like a huge dork making faces and moving my hips around like that.

Now hand me my mickey ears and crocs, I'm going to WDW! :lmao:
