Litte Miss Perfect, Toddlers and Tiaras....

I can't look away!

I always wonder what other people are thinking when they're watching it. I'm imagining half of the audience is totally into it and is picking up tips and getting excited for their next pageant and the other half is staring, slack-jawed, thinking "what a freak show!"

I think you've got the two camps pegged pretty well. ::yes::

I started out tivoing the show, thinking it would be cute. I ended up erasing what I hadn't seen and stopped watching it. I hated seeing those little girls made up to look like hookers and I feel so sorry for the mom wannabee's...they really are living through their children. This show actually makes me sick.
Those poor little girls. Sure, they really want to do this..put on tons of make-up and false eyelashes, and spend their play time practicing, and be yelled at, so they can go and either beat some other poor little girl in a stupid beauty contest, or cry their little hearts out when they lose. I can see no redeeming qualities to this show, can't see anything about the people putting it on, that would make me want to like them. I'm in the camp saying what freaks..but it's the parents I think are the freaks. Not the precious little girls.

I watch for the entertainment value. I don't see a real problem with it when the kids are enjoying it, but some of the kids are obviously doing it to please their parents. I don't like the pictures; for some reason, that bothers me more than the actual pageant. I imagine it does help the girls' confidence being out in front of people like that. Hopefully, it also helps them to be graceful losers and realize you can't win em all.

LOL at the moms, because they I have yet to see one who is anywhere near a beauty queen and they are doing the moves out in the audience:rotfl:

Did a few pageants with DS when he was under the age of 4 and he liked getting all dressed up and getting attention. It was different for boys; no makeup, just a nice little suit. I never could have afforded it if I had a girl and wouldn't have spent the money even if I could have. The one mom said she could have sent both her daughters to college with the money she spent on pageants for them.....

Yeah I'd be in the other camp.:happytv:I saw one episode of "Toddlers and Tiaras" recently where the mom was shaving her 7 yr old daughter's legs at the sink and went "What? SHE"S SEVEN! How much hair can she have and she's BLONDE and probably going to be wearing HOSE so how could you even TELL?":confused3

I'm in the "what a freak show" side. I saw one episode - just once - and they were getting fake teeth for her daughter because her baby teeth had the audacity to fall out. I think she called it a "flipper". :confused3

Too freaky. I feel bad for the girls. But the parents - :scared1:

My 15 year old dd and I enjoy watching this show. Some of the mom's are over the top and it is sad...

I watch both of them. Like a PP said, I can't turn away. I especially like Little Miss Perfect when that host guy (Michael?) sings. LMAO

"There are citrus colored rainbows..."

Blech!

I have nothing but negative feelings about this show and pageants for little girls. I watched one time, (jaw dropping group) and DH walked in and said, "Those little girls look like Jon-Benet Ramsey."

I worked in hair salons since I was 18 (44) and I have seen a lot of little girls getting done for pageants. The moms absolutely creep me out--living through their little children in this way. I feel sorry for the girls and think the moms need help, pronto. I saw mom's who had trouble paying their bills go out and gowns for their girls for hundreds of dollars. "Pageants or Bust" was thir motto, I believe. :(

This is the only reality show that I watch. I feel like I'm rubber necking on the interstate. Last night I wanted to reach into the tv and slap one of the moms. She was awful to her daughter. I loved when she pretended to be a judge and asked her daughter, "What would your perfect day be like?" Her daughter answered, " A day without you!". It was so sad but the girl was being honest.
That mom was the epitome of a bad mom pageant or not. Most of the moms are fat and ugly. They are definitely living through their daughters. I keep wondering how on Earth could those creatures have such beautiful little girls.

I am sadly addicted to both shows - it's like a trainwreck that you just have to slow down and look at.

The Moms are the nutso ones in this whole scenario for the most part. They push their kids to win no matter what the cost.

The saddest thing I have seen was on the Little Miss Perfect episode with Shelby (the cute brunette with the snake). Her family admittedly didn't have the money to keep up with the "professional" kids and the poor kid didn't have a chance. The Mom kept yelling at the poor kid too. :sad2:

If I hear the Pageant Guy sing about citrus colored rainbows again I am going to gag. OH and someone PLEASE tell the overtanned fake blonde judge on LMP to wear something with straps because her outfit always seems to be hovering within an inch of being indecent!

We couldn't believe how some of those pageants had so much money they were giving away. Some even give cars to the kids!!
One little girl wanted to buy a cow with her winnings!! We still joke about that one... I wanna buy a cow!!

Part of me thinks pageants are cute and fun. But then I watch these shows and the moms are "life challenged" (ie, obese or poor) and they happily spend $3000 on pagent dresses and don't blink an eye when Little Sue stands on stage and gets zero award while the kid next to her is getting all the awards including most beautiful. It makes me wonder what good are pageants and what benefit do they serve? And when kids grow out of their precociousness (and they do!) what do the moms and dads think of them then?

Secondly, pageants should be banned for the under 3 crowd. Watching the babies on stage roll around, get a temper, cry and just sit there makes a mockery out of the pagent. Babies' brains can't even process the pageant experience.

I'm on a teter totter on this one. I love watching these shows casue it gives me a window for what to expect for competition as I will be doing one of the pageants that has been featured on T&T (Universal Royalty). I just recently started doing pageants and won my first one and can now go to states. But I do pageants cause I want to do them. I'm 20 years old and I think its cute that the girls get all dressed up but I don't like the tans some of them have and the heavy heavy make up. however, when I have kids of my own in the future, if they want to do a pageant they will and if they don't like it I won't push them into staying in something that they don't want to do and aren't happy with.

I thought it was cute when Karlee wanted a cow. SHe was so happy with her winnings and hey I can't blame her. I'd wanna go to Disney World but ya know... :)

The male judge freaks me out. WTH is a grown man doing judging little girls? I know it's sexist but all I can think is molester.
I agree about the blonde judge. When introducing her, they say she won Miss Teen America - something like that. She looks like she could win Miss Street Corner. At least she didn't have her dog with her last night.

The Little Miss Perfect pageant director is a scream. When he sings, I have to mute the volume because OMG, he sounds like a cross between and cat in pain and a chicken clucking.

Good luck at the pageant. How much would you say you spend to "do" pageants? What are the entry fees to the Universal Royalty pagaent? Just curious.

Only if you tell the other chick to stop injecting collagen into her lips before they get so big that they need their own zip code.

For the first pageant I did this past weekend it was about 45.00 for the entry fee (it was just a beauty event and I had the option of entering for all the other categories like prettiest hair, eyes, attire, etc.), then I spent 160.00 to get my hair done (I have african american hair and I get a permanent put in every 2 months or so and I get fusion hair extensions), then about 10 dollars or so for eyebrow appointment. so about 215.00-230.00. My mom does my makeup so we don't really worry about the costs there. The winning prize for the pageant I did on Sunday is the Sunburst Pageant system and they pay for the Beauty fee to State competition and we cover the other fees (the picture in the program, ads and optional events)

As for Universal Royalty, the fees break down to:

395.00- MANDATORY Beauty Entry fee for all contestants
45.00- Door Passes for the Pageant ( I'm not included in that)
50.00- Pro Am
95.00-Talent
150.00-Hair and Makeup Services (can't have my hairdresser come with me to Texas, Rats...)
125.00-DVD and Photos of the Pageant (also Mandatory as the pageant is going into television production).

TOTAL COST OF FEES (w/ out the 200.00 deposit): 860.00

I'm going to do some fundraising things as opportunities to find sponsors to help cover the costs of the entry fees. My parents are talking about paying for food, airfare and hotel. We get a room at the hotel where the pageant is going to be held at a discounted rate for contestants. We're going to be travelling from Michigan so we'd have to fly (not gonna drive as it would be during a school week we would have to leave so flying seemed best as I could leave after my last class on the day we'd have to leave which is usually a Thursday and the pageant runs Saturday to Sunday). I'm fortunate enough to have a mom who can sew so she can make my dresses, talent wear, and my Pro Am wear (she's made all my figure skating costumes in the past and still makes them for me today). It can get pretty steep but if you talk to the people you know they'd probably be more than willing to sponsor. And the good thing is that I have until 2 days before I leave to have all the entry fees together ( you generally turn the fees in the day of the pageant).
