I always listen to Sirius radio in the car, CNN or HLN. Today the commercial that was running most frequently was for ashleymadison.com a website devoted to helping married people find discreet affairs. Oh my gosh. I can't believe CNN has that running.

What do you all think about that? Is the daytime CNN audience really the target group for that type of business? If so, then I need to be a lot less informed about world affairs.

Wow.

There's a radio station I listen to b/c it carries the Dave Ramsey show--aside from the planted ads that Dave despises--it also includes an ad about meth addiction.

It cracks me up every time--not sure meth addicts are listening to Dave's financial advice--but okay then.

makes you wonder.

I do wonder if the ads you are watching, are cable company fill in ads versus actual ads that HLN/CNN are running. That can happen sometimes. But i'm not sure if it does on that station or not.

Ashley Madison must be doing something right- they have several million members.

Hey if people want to cheat - let em.

My guess is Sirius puts this particular ad on, but surely there is a better channel to put that on than CNN. It seems like a bad marketing choice.

That website ran an ad during the Superbowl either last year or the year before. DH and I nearly croaked. :headache:

I think its Sirius that puts that ad on, Not Cnn. They play that ad on the Nascar channel all the time, too.

I guess I feel like I wouldn't have Howard channel or Trucker channel on in the car or office because I wouldn't expect them to work or kid safe. But the news......eh. I think the commercial is on the wrong channel.

Nice attitude. The ignorant masses think a consenual affair is a harmless crime but in all actuality it destroys the lives of the families attached to the selfish participants. Adultery preys upon lives and destroys them. People think its only between 2 people, its not. Adultery involveds the WHOLE family (children, in laws, parents, siblings). I learned this the hard way.

If you think the Ashley Madison radio commercials are bad, you should see the TV spots. I saw one on TLC while I was watching 18 Kids And Counting!

I also hear the ad on Howard Stern's show. Indeed, this company recently sponsored a beauty contest (on Stern) for women whom had an affair with Tiger Woods (three girls appeared for a chance to win $100,000.00).

I kept wondering: is it for a 'discreet online' affair? Or otherwise?

I am in no way condoning cheating or helping people cheat, but I don't follow your reasoning as to why CNN is not the right audience for this (if anything is):confused3 I can see a family or kid oriented show or religious show not being the intended audience, but CNN seems as likely as anything else to me--if not a bit more.

It's EXACTLY the demographic they want to reach. 25-54 working MARRIED adults. Did anyone expect them to advertise on Bravo or Nickelodeon? :lmao:

Exactly, it seems to me like pretty good marketing. I also do not buy the "I didn't want my kids to hear it" argument. The news itself is full of lots of very adult issues, from wars, to homocides, to death tolls from Earthquakes and so much more. Often this includes affairs of very public figures (Tiger Woods or John Edwards ring a bell to anyone?) so this is exactly the type of thing you should EXPCET your children to ehar if you are allowign to listen to CNN with you.

Blast! I will turn 55 soon. I better get busy!

How does this website make money? By membership fees or by hits?
My undertanding is most affairs are not "planned" but just "happen". I am very surprised there is big business in just picking someone to have an affair with online. :confused3
