I could go on an on. I love old tv shows. I'd rather watch them than most of what is put on tv today.

This is not a sitcom, but what about 19 Kids and Counting (or 18, 17, 16 kids...) My son and I always thought it was fun to watch such an enormous family - such a difference from ours. Their values are always wholesome.

FULL HOUSE! I was in the hospital having my first child when Becky was in the hospital having the twins on the show! lol We all love Full House, and watched it on Nick at Night when my kids were little. In fact, my 18 y/o DD wants us to buy the series...says it reminds her of her childhood.

7th Heaven is also good, as it Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and (although slightly more PG-13), Gilmore Girls. Home Improvement is also pretty funny, but definitely PG-13 in some aspects.

The Cosby Show
Full House
I Love Lucy

The Wonder Years is a great show, but I think the subject matter is a little mature for kids. I know it is about kids, but not my idea of a family show. Deals with a lot of puberty feelings. :rotfl:

So I would like to buy seasons of old shows that are wholesome and good for the whole family to watch. Can you help me out? My older kids are 9 and 12 btw.

Some of the ones we watch (my kids are 8 & 15, but we've had these in our DVD library for a while) You can decide if they fit your definition of wholesome.

Full House
Punky Brewster
Brady Bunch
Andy Griffith Show
Partridge Family
Alf
Little House on the Prairie
Murder She Wrote
I love Lucy
A Family Affair
Happy Days
Mork & Mindy
Greatest American Hero

I don't want anything that is too boy/girl crazy. Ive never seen Little house on the prairie and thought of buying a few DVDs but I read somewhere that one episode has rape?! I'm guessing Brady bunch is boy crazy right? I'm a child of the eighties so I dont remember seeing some of these. I don't mind if they are old though!

That LHOTP episode was one of the much later ones. The first 5 or 6 season should be fine. The episode that alludes to rape is in season 7.

Just about any family sitcom from the 80s - Silver Spoons, Growing Pains, all that sort of thing.

In terms of a more modern one, I LOVE That's So Raven. I just rewatched them all on YouTube over the past month or so. Hilarious show, well acted, and something of interest for pretty much everybody.

If you just avoid episode 717 of Little House then the rape episode will not be part of your viewing. Otherwise it is a horse show although it is always in tensely dramatic which can be emotionally hard.

I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
When they ran the colorized version of The Dick Van Dyke Show a month or so ago, I was surprised how many of my under 30 co-workers had never seen either show.

Until the oldest son was charged with molesting his sisters and one other, and the parents covered it up...

Regarding Family Ties, I watched it in the 80s and remember a couple of episodes dealing with suicide and drug use. They may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

As always, preview the episode's description before your kids watch it.

I remember Charles in Charge not being bad to watch.

I don't think that will phase most people as I saw 7th Heaven and Cosby show on many lists even though the guy who played the dad molest 3 underage girls and well we all know the Cosby drama. Also I remember 7th heaven being a little boy/girl crazy in the later episodes and having the kids go through different not so "wholesome" events because some of those things are just apart of life.

This is a zombie thread from 2011, people!
