Might we start a list of non-DVC timeshare proven successful exchanging into DVC through Interval International?

I'll start with Worldmark the Club (WM). I've traded WM credits to book BWV three years in a row -- always for late January. My other property affiliated with II is unable to pull DVC.

For others who trade in .. or have had DVC offered for trade ... which resorts were you using?

I would also be interested in this list. Please include where the deposited timeshare is located as well (like where is Worldmark the Club located?).
Answer: WM is a points-based club with 50+ locations -- mostly Western states. When I search online through Interval International, I shop online w/out having to make a deposit from any particular location/week. Points are deducted from my WM account after I confirm the trade based on the size/season of the unit accepted from II.

Yes, I used my Foxrun week to trade in to the DVC.

I don't know for sure, but I'd suspect that all Marriotts qualify.

Dean might know this -- do all the resorts on the approved list for DVC members to trade into qualify? I'd expect that they do, plus a few others not on the list.

BWVbound, you are correct. I have crummy time (Nov-Apr) in Rhode Island, but it's a well-run and well-maintained resort, so apparently I can pull DVC sometimes. We were lucky this year in that we were able to deposit Thxgiving week (but it's still New England in November). We also deposited a 2BR, but were offered a 1BR OKW in May, and a BWV studio in September. So here's the resort I deposited:

  • The Wellington, Newport, RI

Okay, I'm no expert on this, but isn't there a big trade difference between a DVC studio in September, and a 2br for Christmas?
In other words, to say you can exchange into DVC doesn't really tell the whole story, does it? Don't you need to know when, and what size? :drinking:

There is no benefit to owning a resort on the II list from a trade in standpoint. But it does indicate a certain resort quality which would generally put you higher on the list than others. Most exchanges in are off time and DVC doesn't deposit Xmas and Easter. Even a bonus week will get you in at certain times of the year. There is also a difference between different DVC resorts. OKW and SSR are easier to get than the others likely because the more deposits there are the easier it is to qualify for one. Remember that DVC blocks regional resorts from a ?45 mile radius.

But if anyone is thinking of buying something else and trading in to DVC, they better learn the system forward and backward first and be very careful. I just hope people don't see this thread and assume they can buy X resort and easily or consistently trade in to DVC, it's a recipe for disappointment.

My Marriott week in Orlando lets me pull DVC HH and VB all the time. Regional block against onsite Orlando resorts.

My BIL Marriott week in California lets him pull DVC @ OKW and BW quite frequently.

I've been noticing more and more DVC inventory in II lately.

Yes it was Landmark Holiday Beach in PCB - a nice little resort - my week was in Sept - 2-bedroom - I traded for SSR this May in a studio.

very, very fair trade to me.

got a bonus week -there was a 1-bedroom OKW in Sept - that I was considering - but since this year I had used up all my vacation leave I gave the bonus week to some relatives - they are staying in the Marriott's Cypress Harbour in Sept.

Now I want it!!!

I got a great deal!!!

I think II is trying to find other properties along the Gulf (beaches in general) and will give you a good week in return.

Now until Sept - it was not allowing me to see anything but studios. In Sept it allowed 1-bedroom.

So it is not by any means a great trader.

Besides most of the people who own Landmark Holiday - only trade with RCI and RCI does NOT value it.

Dean,

Have you heard anything about WIVC (World International Vacation Club)? It's a multi-resort timeshare mostly in Mexico. Their resorts in Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta are actually included in the Disney II collection. My parents have owned there for many years. I haven't heard much about it anywhere including tug2.net and I hardly see it for sale anywhere on-line so I was surprised to see it as a Disney exchange.

We use to go to the Acapulco resort because that is where we orginally bought it but since Mexico is so far to travel to, we've been using it as a trader for the last few years. It exchanges through 3 exchage companies including II and RCI. We only had membership in II. It is a pretty good II trader. I've seen it pull up DVC HH but never the WDW DVCs. But it has pulled up many of the Marriotts. We can usually get a 2 bedroom at a Marriott in Orlando using a 1 bedroom and a 1 bedroom Marriott elsewhere.

I take this back. I just pulled up DVC SSR studio for 7/23/05 - 7/30/05 from II with our 1 bedroom.

The block is regional. Orlando for Orlando, HH for HH and I'm not sure how it works for VB but would assume that it doesn't go as far as Daytona or West Palm.

Sorry, not much info. MX in general are not very good traders but if you'll use it consistently, that doesn't matter. there is some info on TUG about them. Just do a search for the names and letters. If you can't do the search email me and I'll search and provide you the direct links. All you'd have to do is join the BBS which is free.

Well, II has rules against trading up in size. So, if you deposit a studio, you will usually only be offered studios. (At resorts that only have larger units, where you may be offered whatever the smallest size is at that resort.)

Also, 59 days before check-in, a lot of restrictions are dropped, and DVC may be offered as a trade for resorts that wouldn't usually qualify for it.

Apart from that, though, I'm not aware of differences in trade power affecting what size DVC units are offered, or which weeks are offered. For example, folks who own peak summer weeks at my resort don't seem to be offered more DVC units than what I'm offered for my offpeak, early spring week.

In other parts of the country, II seems to work differently -- my offseason week is offered less in trade than what peak season weeks are offered. But Orlando has such a surplus of timeshares that II seems to offer me everything it has available, except maybe resorts it considers too low-quality to trade for mine.

As for what DVC units are available in general through II, as Dean says, the DVC doesn't deposit anything at Christmas or Easter. OKW has by far the most weeks offered. Also, I haven't found any units larger than a studio for the summer. I should point out, though, that there may by some larger units deposited into II in the summer, but these might be snatched up by ongoing requests. I only am looking at II's online inventory, which is basically the left-over stuff.

It appears that DVC has generic trade power that is the same no matter what time is deposited but dependent on the unit size. To say II doesn't allow up trades in terms of size is partially true, they won't allow DVC members to search for a larger unit but they often offer a larger one. Trading outside DVC, many times one can get a larger unit for a smaller one.
