Me: Still fending off rebellion
DH: Still trying to start one
DD: Moaning about lack of shoppin opportunities this holiday
DS: Still can be bought off with powerade
Thursday 29th December
Arrived at park good and early again to beat the crowds. Headed straight for the fabulous Shrek (as good as ever) and then hopped over to Jimmy Neutron (made me feel a bit sick - probably too much hot chocolate at breakfast) We stopped off at the compound to take a look at the Macy's balloons before a quick trip onto Twister (drenched as usual)
Queue for The Mummy was already 90 minutes so DS & I decided to give it a miss while DH & DD did the single rider queue (in the end single rider queue got so big they put them all on together anyway) DS & I had a wander round looking at the Christmas decorations. We particularly liked 'Cat in the Hat' balloon sitting on side of building. Then DS decided he wanted a temporary tattoo so we spent ages deciding which to have (chinese symbol in end)
We watched The Blues Brothers who were excellent as ever (all songs took on a Christmas theme ie Soul Man became Snowman) and we enjoyed a good boogie in the sunshine. Then it was off to earthquake and Jaws.
DS insisted on riding Men in Black even though the queue was huge (90 mins in the end) The 'clever' people at Universal had the novel idea of a queue DJ playing requests & starting a 'queue' volleyball game with an inflatable beach ball to break the tedium. (not sure how long this will continue for as some of our American friends get quite competative in their efforts to get the ball and there were several direct hits to the head & face) funny to watch though.
Decided to give Back to the Future a miss (done it a couple of times before not my favourite) and head off for lunch. As usual everywhere was crammed but found a nice quiet spot in Shwabs Pharmacy where we had some delicious hand carved turkey sandwiches & ice cream sundae, then headed back for a ride on ET.
We had a meander around the shops and came out to find that the Shrek queue had shrunk to 20 mins so gave it another go. Then it was off to find a nice sunny spot to take in the Macy's balloon parade.
The parade was nice enough lots of cast members throwing sweets to the crowds & confetti flying down from the rooftops. The balloons were colourful & it was quite funny watching the handlers trying to manage them. I suppose DH summed it up best when he said 'very nice but it just isn't Disney'
We then decided to call it a day and headed off to the Premium Outlets for some retail therapy, where DH's credit card got a good hammering. Then it was off to Downtown Disney to meet up with DBIL & his family who had arrived the day before for dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. Then it was back to the hotel where the rebellion broke out.......
