Mascara, Pudding, Toothpaste, liquid lip glosses, gel/aerosol deodorants, creams, lotions, shampoos, ALL beverages

PS - I didn't see anything on the TSA site about banning baby wipes or makeup remover/sunscreen towelettes.

The TSA at work.... (Common sense is not a strong point here!) Don't forget gel filled insoles are NO NO, but your gel filled wonderbra is just fine!


As for keeping your water or ginger ale, if they GIVE it to you then maybe. If you carry it on, the FA's have to go buy the TSA rules that as it went down the jetway it possibly acquired DANGEROUS qualities and they take it away. (Now there is a theory that ALL they do is put it in the trash..I guess that dangerous items in trash cans aren't really dangerous )

I mean apparently in Canda and Europe IF you buy the liquid in the gate area it is safe to carry on board UNLESS you are flying to the US. So all I can assume is that as the plane crosses the border that liquid magically becomes dangerous.

The FIRST liquid explosive bomb on a plane was set off over TEN YEARS ago.... Apparently the TSA NEVER researched ANY old news LOL! to the TSA this is a NEW and EXCITING threat... (They have been quoted on the NEW part )

I don't have a huge problem with this except for the facts that
1. FAs and pilots can bring on beverages. (so much for ban)
2. Why can't items purchased in the so called sterile area be brought on board? If they aren't safe why are they there? (Or has it NEVER occured to the TSA that a terrorist might decide to blow up the gate area?)
3. Why is it that if I am flying from Ontario to Quebec, I can bring that overpriced bottle of water on board, but if I am flying from Ontario to Buffalo that SAME water from the shop is DANGEROUS? I guess the TSA thinks that terrorists ONLY target America so they wouldn't damage anyone else. (I am sure that the French, English, Spanish and other areas who have had recent experience with terrorists would find that interesting!)


However I figure now the terrorists are over the liquid bomb. They are working on something NEW. (Everyone should PRAY daily it's not EXPLOSIVE CLOTHING. I wonder how many of you will still think that the TSA is doing a great job when they decide we have to fly NAKED LOL!)

I assume then that you also saw the news that their plot could not possibly have worked. The type of bomb they wanted to mix up required hours of mixing at exact temperatures, followed by hours of cooling, neither of which can be interrupted by any turbulence or bumps. And even assuming the guys could have brought on board all the necessary bomb making equipment as well as the liquids, and assuming they got 6 hours of perfect turbulence free flying, somebody would have noticed what they were up to and stopped them - if nothing else the toxic fumes produced would be a give away.

Now, as one of our favorite posters likes to point out, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is some super secret way to mix up a bomb on a plane using liquids brought on board. Then you would think the TSA would ban liquids being brought on board. But you *can* bring liquids on board. If you are a FA. Or if you have a small child. Or if you have a prescription. And even if you don't fall into any of those categories, you can bring liquids on board - just put the liquid inside a saline bottle, or inside an orange and it's fine. Do you honestly think the TSA would allow all those liquids on board if they felt liquids were dangerous?

The rule may have had some value in calming public fears when first put in place. But now it does nothing to make us safer. Worse, when the TSA agents are wasting time taking milk away from a baby (but only cow's milk - formula and breast milk are fine) they aren't looking for bombs and other real threats.

So, yes, people should complain about rules that inconvenience passengers, don't make us safer, and distract TSA agents from looking out for real threats.

Nobody here has suggested bring water on board because the rules are stupid. We tend to be a pretty law abiding bunch on this board. Nor has anyone suggested they didn't know water was a liquid.

So which response is stunning you? Pointing out the difficulty of mixing up a bomb out of liquids? Or pointing out that if you *can* mix a bomb out of liquids, then all the exceptions for FA's, parents, anyone with a prescription don't make sense?

You don't have to be a security expert - just somebody with a bit of common sense - to realize that a rules allowing oranges, but not sippy cups of orange juice, formula but not milk, etc. don't make a lot of sense.

What stuns you? The fact that we don't blindly believe everything the TSA says? Part of being a responsible citizen is holding your goverment accountable not just blindly following the rules.

NO ONE on this thread or this board as far as I have know has advocated NOT following the rules. There is a difference between questioning and lobbying for change and disobeying. Yes, I am questioning. Yes, I have written the TSA and my elected offical explaining that I am tired of knee jerk reactions that don't address REAL problems. (Bottles of water and coke aren't the problem EXPLOSIVES ARE! Better technology exists to detect them, why if we are so concerned aren't we using it)

However, I am obeying the rules, I am not abusing the TSA agents for enforcing them. (I have also complained to the one airline that I did NOT appreicate seeing FAs carry on thier Starbucks etc. If they get to break the rules, the airline should at LEAST tell them not to fluant this.)


You want STUNNING??? Ask the goverement if all the CARGO in your airline hold was inspected? Ask the goverement what they are doing to protect the major ports in this country???

I can't decide what you think, but I think this is an ATTEMPT at scarasm. Since you have made it pretty clear that you don't agree with some of us I think your statement of "I KEEP FORGETTING THAT NO DISSENT IS ALLOWED ON THISE BOARDS" is intersting if nothing else. (Sounds to me like what you want us to do is agree with you and since we didn't you are trying to shame us, maybe I am wrong)

Here's my suggestion, it doesn't matter what you think of our thoughts. If you think the TSA is doing the right thing go to www.TSA.gov and send them an email telling them so. If you think they aren't do the same thing.

Well, I know there ARE many people here who are intelligent and/or educated and/or informed and/or just have plain old common sense. Do I take everything salmoneous (for example) says as gospel? No. Do I believe she/he has taken the time to become informed on facts and shares that information here? Absolutely.

Anyone who beleives that the ban on liquids is making air travel safer should be outraged by the way the airports and the TSA are treating confiscated items. Those items are being confiscated becaue they are unknown substances that are potentialy hazardous. Yet, we are allowing them to be dumped into our sewer systems and placed in our landfills. Employees at the airports are even fighting over who get to take these items home and expose their families and neighbors to this threat. We call out the bomb squad for every suspicious package, why not for every suspcious liquid, paste, cream or gel?

It seems to me that we don't worry about the disposal of these items because we know the emporer has no clothes. Laws like this one that are pointless and easy to circumvent only encourage unlawful bahavior. Lack of respect for the law is the biggest tragedy that will likely result from the Great LIquid Ban.

Speaking of, can someone please explain to me why lip gloss is a threat, but KY Jelly isnt ? I dont even want to know what people could possibly need KY Jelly for ON BOARD.

If you want to bring a liquid onboard, why can't the screeners just ask you to take a sip while going through line. (I'm talking beverages only here.) So much for taking my gin and tonic cleverly disguised in a "sports drink" bottle.

The theory is that if you were a terrorist planning to blow something up you would be willing to drink the dangerous substance.

(There is also a great conspiracy theroy about false bottoms in your sports bottle etc. It's really great reading, but has a few flaws as an earlier poster pointed out.... )
