linking credit cards to magic bands

My next trip in August will be the first time using MB. I'm going with my aunt, her daughter, & my mom. I am the main guest on the account and I know I want to link my credit card to my MB.

Now here's my question. With 4 MB users in our room, if I link my credit card would all the other guests have access to swipe their band and charge my card? OR Can I link just my MB, my aunt link just her MB and the other two bands are not linked to any form of payment what so ever. My aunt and myself would be the only ones interested in linking.

Also - if I decide to not link anything to the MBs can we still use debit/credit cards in the parks for tips? I bought the dining plan and instead of charging tips to the room and having to divide things up at the end of our stay (that would be a headache :headache:) if anything I'd like to pay my portion with my card & my aunt pay her portion with her card at the time of dining. I hope that makes sense...

If any or all of this has been asked I apologize - I'm at work and these questions just popped into my head. Thanks! :-)

So, the way it works is that the credit card isn't actually linked to the MagicBand. The MagicBand has your resort reservation linked to it. When you make a purchase with the MagicBand, you are actually just charging whatever item you are buying to the room. This is why offsite guests cannot charge on the MagicBand.

Room charges go onto the designated credit card the night before you check out (around 3 or 4 AM in the morning). You can only have 1 credit card designated on the account. You can designate who has charging privileges though so you can turn off charging for other guests in the room.

You can still just use your credit/debit card for tips and such at the parks though. That will make things way easier.

What you will need to do is go to the front desk sometime before your check out day (e.g., if you are checking out on Friday, go on Thursday). They will be able to reconcile your charges with the appropriate credit card there. Each room charge will have the person who made the charge associated with it so it shouldn't be very difficult to see who charged what.

Now, there is one wrench in the plans. There is a max limit to your resort room charges before Disney automatically charges your credit card. They are as follows:
  • Value - $500
  • Moderate - $1000
  • Deluxe - $1500

Make sure that you visit the front desk and reconcile the charges BEFORE you hit that limit. Otherwise, your credit card will be charged before the final day.

I hope that makes sense.

Yikes.. That's what I thought :( Thanks for the info. My card is the designated card on the entire trip and we're staying at a Value so that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room and most likely will require a few front desk checks to pay purchases off so I dont get hit with the charge if we hit our limit.

So could we just not swipe our magic bands for purchases and just go the old fashion route - whoever buys whatever just pulls out their own credit/debit card in store/at restaurant/whatever and pay that way? Or is Disney only utilizing payments with the MB for those who have them?

EDIT Oh geez disregard my comment I didnt see your last sentence, oops :-x Thank you!

That's what I would do. It's SOOO much easier and you don't have to visit the front desk. You can pay with whatever you like and using different methods (so MB for dining credits + credit/debit card for tips). Just tell the server how you'd like to pay for things and they can handle that for you.

Thank you for clearing this up for me. One less stressor for me now that I understand. I appreciate it! :goodvibes

Go the old fashioned route use your own debit/credit cards at time of purchase
If you were the only one in the room I would say go ahead and add it to your MB but as pointed out it would be a hassle figuring it all out after the fact

I would even go so far as to say carry some cash, all of you, for tipping and less problems for the server KWIM ?

Why is the information here completely contradictory to what was said on this thread?

Like post #2 says: "They can put the different cards on file for each magic band at check in and each person will create their own unique pin code. We did that last week and it worked perfectly. "

Which is correct?

I am going with my sister (an adult too) and I was hoping to let her charge but use her own pin and own credit card for her purchases, but now this thread is saying you can't when other threads say you can? Can anyone confirm this?

We were able to link separate cards to our bands on our October trip and it worked just fine. We just asked them to do it at the check in desk.

At checkin have them put the different CCs onto the account and link them to the right MBs. You can have different cards. Can't do it online, but at the front desk you can.

I have a throwaway campsite booked for one night for our party of 9. It includes the magic bands (as we are staying offsite).

I assume when I check in (Cdn so I have to go and pick up my bands) I would be able to link a credit card to my band.

Will that only work for payment for the day of check in and check out and then stop working afterward? Even though I will have 5-8day ticket linked to my band?

Thanks.

Remember, instead of paying with a credit card, you can also get a Target red card and load up on Disney gift cards with a 5% discount. You have to budget and plan this way, though. You don't want to end the vacation with lots of unused gift cards still laying around. You can even pay for your reservation with them, though you can't do early check in.

Correct. It's only good for the two days you are staying onsite. The charges are applied to your room account and then charged to your CC on your last day. Purchases are not charged directly to your card at the point of sale.

Based on my experience I would recommend going the old fashioned route and paying for things with a credit card or cash. We stayed at AoA a week ago. I had done online checkin and provided my mom's credit card as I had previously paid the deposit so she was going to pay for the rest of the room. At check in we confirmed that her credit card was on file. I asked if we could link my credit card to my and my husband's magic bands and leave my mom's on her and my dad's. We were told that was fine and that it was done. We then proceeded to the concierge desk to buy our park tickets. I went first and was told to scan my magic band. I then gave the CM some gift cards and was left with about a $50 balance but somehow the CM figured out we had tried to link two cards and she said they've been having a lot of trouble with that and really only my mom's card was on there and that is what would be charged. My mom and I just decided then that I would only use our credit cards instead of bands to pay for other things and I would just owe her the $50. The CM gave us a printout of everything that had been purchased so far on our reservation and it was very confusing but everything checked out.

Then the morning of checkout they slid a receipt under our door. For some reason the only thing on this receipt was the two park tickets for me and my husband which I had purchased with two gift cards and then had inadvertently charged the $50 balance to my mom's card. This receipt though indicated MY credit card, which the CM at concierge said hadn't been properly linked, had been charged the full $200something for the two park tickets despite the fact that I had used about $150 in gift cards. We went down to concierge and apparently what happened is that when I used my magic band at first to buy the tickets my credit card was indeed charged the full amount. Then somehow when the gift cards were applied my mom's card got charged the $50 balance. So, unknowingly to me at the time, my credit card had been charged around $200 and they had attempted to put that $200 back on my card but had somehow given my mother's credit card the $200 credit. They did fix this though and changed the $200 credit to my card. We've both checked our balance and it looks like they did fix everything so I greatly appreciate that. It was just super confusing and a small waste of out time so I would recommend using your own credit cards to pay for things or only you use your magic band if it's your card on it and have everyone else use their cards/cash. I'm glad this has worked for other people and hopefully it will in the future, but that was our recent experience. Maybe the fact that we were trying to buy park tickets and were using gift cards messed things up?
