Line etiquette - holding spots

I was thinking we could have one person hold everyone's space on long lines (e.g. for Fantasmic), so that the others could do something else during the wait. We could take turns. Is this normal behavior or is it considered rude at Disney?

Is it even possible to find someone in long line, or could they be inside or out of sight?

It is considered line cutting.

Uh, no. Yes, it's rude and it's not acceptable. AND...... most queues weave in and out of ropes or barriers that would make it impossible for your party to push their way past everyone else in line.

Use the fastpass - virtually no wait.

nancyjane, please don't take offense to the following.

Dear mods, it might behoove y'all to create a parade, line and overall behavior etiquette board.

And nancyjane? No, it isn't right to hold places in line. And God save you from the answers that follow.

:lmao:are you just trying ti start a debate:lmao:

Sure, have someone hold your place, while the rest of you go pool hopping and using old, expired refillable mugs.

Then jump in your ECV's and throw your kids in their heelies and head on through the line.

Just so everyone knows, this response was tongue in cheek, I'm just trying to get all the other taboos mentioned on page one.

And, yes, we all know that this is just going to start the debate about holding the line for someone taking their kid to go potty, even though that was never stated in the OP.

Some of these threads are too predictable.

Can I ask where this is considered not rude? I will avoid those places.

Thanks. After I read the post about people getting mad over people taking pictures on line, I had a feeling what I'd find when I got back to this post. :scared1:

For those of you who have been to WDW multiple times, you forget that some of us have never been there (or were there too long ago to remember anything). Saving a place on line is perfectly acceptable in other places I've waited lately (e.g. concerts, movies, ballgames). But I forget that I live in a pretty easy going place (and no one is spending thousands of dollars to visit here). :goodvibes

Nope the "potty thing" was "solved" in another thread. People are just changing diapers in line or letting their kids go potty in line.:crazy2::faint:

the disboards is a place where everyone can come and ask questions..regardless of the subject and whether it's been asked before.... at one point or another all of us didn't know the answer to certain ?'s.

While it might makes sense to start a sticky thread about topics that constantly come up I think it's only fair we answer questions like this in a friendly and respectful manner.

Fair enough, no harm done. :flower3:

If I may, I don't consider concerts or ballgames really the same animal, since you are typically going to reserved seats and are going to have the exact same experience no matter how many people are in front of you waiting to get in.

Movies are more similar since they are open-seating, and your experience could--though unlikely--be affected by people showing up in front of you. For example, the last "good seats" (whatever that means to you) could get taken by people who just showed up and didn't wait as long as you. Similarly with theme-park rides, you may have to wait a minute or two longer--again no big deal--but then what if the ride breaks down in that extra minute or two? Picking nits, maybe, but stranger things have happened....

Pixie dust to you for asking the question and not assuming like others do!

In an attraction no never. But people do do this for fireworks and parades.

OP, I think that would be a bad idea. :) Everyone needs to be in line together. The obvious exceptions would include a child having an emergency potty issue. Other than emergencies, stick together. :)

Besides it being impolite, the way some of the lines snake around and how crowded the lines sometimes are it could be impossible to hook back up with your party. :)

I sometimes let my mother take my daughter out of the non-moving princess/fairy line in Toontown to browse in the attached store while I wait. I don't see the big deal -- doesn't matter how many people in my party are physically waiting, there's still going to be just one kid getting a pic taken with the princesses.

Here's the way I see it.

If your kid or self needs to use the bathroom, fine, one or two people making their way in and out of line I can deal with.

If one person waits in line and their 5, 6, 7, 10, 15, 2, 3, 100 friends/family meet up in line later by cutting through everyone else who'd been waiting. Well that I can't handle so well. Depending on the amount of people trying to get through, either my eyes or voice do a lot of talking about it.

That's my thinking.

It would be possible, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if you were told that you need to join your party at the back of the line:rolleyes1. I believe that it is a line cutting as you ( not you) the ones who come after you do all the waiting, has never officially entered the line and therefore should not expect to push through the crowd to get on the ride, or great viewing seats for the shows.

How would you feel is 20 people came up when it was there turn and that made your wait extended? I am pretty sure that you'd be ticked, and want someone's head too:headache: If your party can't all stay in the line for whatever reasons, then you should A) get out and wait together B) let them get out and re enter the line and ride where they fit in and C) don't enter the line till all are present and accounted for.

For shows, we have been waiting hours for a great seat, and it never fails that as the time draws near, a gang of people always comes up and gets lined up in front of us like we're not even standing there:confused3, now that really grinds my gear and I tell them to stand back as we are next in line and the line is behind us:mad:

Anyways, I do believe that WDW has a no line cutting policy so I would just wait till all my party is ready before entering the line, I would be too upset to get ejected over something that could have been easily controlled:flower3:

Well if your line in for Lets say fantasmic & someone leaves to get food/drinks I dont think thats rude at all, as long as its just one person leaving/coming back.

Not to stir the pot...but if this is not OK, then wouldn't sending one person to stand in line and get fastpasses for everyone in his/her party while they go off and do something else also not be OK?

Didn't I read that it was okay for an adult to hold a spot in line for Jedi training as long as the child is there for the actual sign up?

I have 2 nephews who want to do Jedi training. 5 adults,2 kids - we planned to have 2 adults and the kids go over at park opening and wait until the kids sign up, then have the adults take turns waiting in line while the kids went to the HISTA playground. Acceptable or not? This is assuming they get on the first list, otherwise I don't think anyone will wait in line.
