Line cutting and fast pass problems...

OK this is where I probably tick off most of you. I'm the kind of person that would let someone in front of me take their child to the washroom if they needed to and return in front of me with no qualms. I'm also the type of person that if Grandma or Grandpa is with the family and we are all standing in line in the blazing sun, I'd suggest that grandma or grandpa sit in the shady spot to the side and then rejoin us when we got closer. So if you see someone in December suggesting someones gramma sits in the shade until we get closer to the ride.. please dont stone me lol

I 100% completely agree. I just have one other point. I don't know if it has been made or not since I didn't have time to read everything. First I want to say that as a parent of a small child, if my son says he has to go to the bathroom than he has to go. I say it is the lesser of all evils to leave my husband or most of my party in a line to get him to the bathroom then rejoin my party. It is either that or letting him wet his pants, or worse take him out of the line and say that we have to start our 45 min wait over. Then everyone around us could listen to his crying for 45 more min. Take your pick. I belive there is a difference between line cutters and bathroom breaks. When I have had to leave a line for a bathroom break I say excuse me to all the people behind me to get out of the line for 2 reasons. 1 it is polite and the right thing to do 2. All those people have seen me leaving the line with my son doing a dance so when we return they know we have been there before.

Little people don't always know ahead of time so cut them and their parents some slack. The rides aren't going anywhere so the world will not end if you have to wait 2 extra minutes because some person had to use the bathroom. Okay now that I said my peace I have my flame suit on!!

I would have to say that the ONLY way that there would be "line cutting" would be if one of my children had to go to the bathroom--WHILE we are waiting in line, and I would make sure that I would tell the people around me that "my child has to go to the bathroom & we are going to be right back" so there is no surprises when we get back in line w/DH & other child. Even then I would try to make my best effort to have them "be prepared" b4 the ride.

I agree also, I have never been to WDW but I have spent the last 28 years taking 8 kids and now 9 grandkids to amusement parks, zoos, movies and other adventures which require standing and waiting in line.
If the family had been waiting in line for 30 minutes and one had to go to the bathroom, I would take them and we would return to the rest of our group.
If we started over every time we would never make it thru a line..and if I am returning to a line, which I have already been waiting in for 30 minutes I do not consider that "cutting in line"
If one person says excuse me may I join my family and their hubby, son and daughter are 5 people ahead of me I don't consider it "cutting" I have no problem with it.
I think its obvious this is very different from a group of people just shoving their way in front of everyone or one person "holding" a space and 5 others joining them.
but reading some of these responses along with other ones posted when I asked a question about disabilities.. dunno, some people are cutthroat when it comes to the happiest place on earth, its kind of ironic.

I won't stone you. If I have the pleasure of running into you when we're there in December too, I'll shake your hand and wish there were more people in the world like you. Perhaps if there were, folks who actually do the blatant line cutting would soon disappear. Live by example, and all that.

Even in the park with the quoted definition of line jumping, I think the idea of losing anything including one's place in line after investing so much time there should be rethinked (sic).

Invention (works for boys only): A funnel-tube like device that lets him relieve himself a little at a time and 'it' flows down to the ground without getting his pants wet.

Yeah, cuz I want to be standing next to a little boy who is relieving himself a little at a time to the ground. I sure do not want the stream to come my way. He may be dry, but what about everyone else in line who has to dodge a stream of pee.

I've got a feeling that this is one thing most of us from both sides of this issue are going to be able to agree on.....that idea is DISGUSTING!

I hope I'm correct in assuming it was a joke!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We've been doing disney for years - at all times of the year. Is it My fault if most of the general public refuses to read that pesky little map handed to them at the front gate that explains the FastPass system ? The longest I have ever waited in a line was 30 mins .... during a busy time, in a crowded park. Fast Pass is fine. You do need to do a little planning to get the most effective use of it.

And this is why I will happily allow a child back in line after a potty break. Talk about the lesser of two evils.:rotfl2: :scared1: :lmao:

I hear yeah.

A funny story my nephew who is 9 years old just had a karate exibition after their belt promotion. During the exibition while the whole karate school was lined up on the high school gym floor a little boy about 8 or 9 must of had to go real bad and wasn't sure what to do. He ended up peeing right there on the gym floor.:guilty: He actually handled it very well considering about 100 people in the stands there to watch saw this and his fellow karate classmates also saw this. This all happened while the sensi was giving out the belts. I felt so bad. :grouphug:

Even as an adult sometimes you think your fine and then 15 mintues later you really have to go and need to duck out of the line to go.:confused3 My DH has a horrible bladder and always seems to wait to the last minute to tell me he has to use a bathroom. Sometime I feel like I have my own child. pirate: He is jealous of me. I can go all day and not need to pee:upsidedow

I certainly do not want someone peeing in line next to me.:scared1:

That definition is nowhere on Disney World's website and I don't remember seeing it at WDW. If another park wants to define "line cutting" that way, it's certainly their prerogative, but clearly there is no universally accepted definition. I assure you that if I asked people where I live if temporarily leaving a line to take a child to the potty & then returning could be considered line cutting, at least 90% would say "no." They would probably be surprised that anyone would even consider it line cutting. It's just the way we are raised.

Please remember when you're at WDW that you're there with people who are also Americans, but coming from a culture like mine, where it would never occur to us that this would be looked upon as line cutting. We're not trying to cheat or scam you out of anything. In turn, those of us who have read posts like these, will do our best to remember that we may be in line with people who might just look upon a potty break as cutting in line. Maybe, just maybe, everyone can keep their tempers in check and remember children are present.

Here is the definition of “Line Jumping” from another popular park:

Line jumping is defined as “Cutting in front of other waiting guests, leaving the line then attempting to re-enter. This includes using the restroom facilities or to purchase food or drinks.” Once you leave your place in line, you have forfeited it, no matter what the reason. Saving a place is simply not permitted.

wow. 13 pages and still going strong.

i love posting after 10+ pages... after the first 3 or 4 people give up and skip to the end.

i feel relieved that i am not tarred, feathered and banned from disney. however, if you must, please do it after september. i want my free dining to be worth something! it excites me when i get to save this much money

I wish Disney had that policy....flame away all you bathroom breakers, but I had small children at one time and if we had gotten out of a line for a bathroom break we went back to the end of the line. Maybe the kid would tell me BEFORE we got into line the next time....(plus I would never stand in a line over 20 minutes anyway especially with a potty training child!!)

I agree! I honestly don't know how we did it before. How our kids made it thru numerous Disney trips without having to get in and out of lines. And I have taken 3 different kids at various ages to Disney for 20 yrs and have never had to get out of a line except for 1 time and yes we got in the back of the line.

Also, regarding the fastpasses, I don't really see what the problem is. If one person goes to another attraction to obtain fastpasses while the rest of the party waits in line, I don't think it will make a big difference in the wait time. Now if the whole party went and 1 person stayed in line, that would probably make the line a lot longer which is wrong. Things come up and at times, groups get seperated.
Okay, let’s use Soarin’ as an example. There are what, 108 seats for each show (three rows of twelve, times three sections)? So, you’re number 100 in line. That means you’re included in the next pre-show group. But wait! Ten of the parties ahead of you each happen to have sent one person to Mission: Space to get FastPasses – and they each rejoin their respective parties while you’re waiting. Now you’re number 110 in line, and you DON’T get into the next pre-show, delaying you by however long an additional ride cycle takes.

For me rejoining your family is fine. if the line is like 30 plus minutes i have no problem if mom goes to the nearest drink cart to get a soda for the kids or if dad has to use the bathroom or go to a designated smoke are while the rest of the group stays in line.
Bathroom, okay. Drink? No. Cigarette? No. Neither of these is generally an emergency, so if one or the other – or a FastPass – is so important to the Guest that they need to leave the line, no, neither is a valid reason to catch up with the rest of their party.

Somebody a few pages back posted a "rule" which, while not a rule, makes perfect sense: If a member or two of your party must exit the line for an emergency, the rest of the party should reasonably remain at that point - letting other Guests pass them - until the one or two get back.

Okay, hope I don't get beat up while I'm there (like the lady at the Teacups), but I still plan to send the rest of my family (there will be three of them) to get in line while I run over and get FP elsewhere, then re-join them in line.

Please don't trip me as I move past you in line!:rotfl:

Why shouldn't we? I guess you are talking about the rest of us schmucks that actually stay together? Like I keep saying don't expect to get past my family, no where does it say I have to let you past. You better have an alternative plan. Depending on the line and the age of the child I will usually let someone thru that past me on the way out BUT I will not let someone past that didn't go past me out of the line, and I will say something very loud if they try to push past my group. Your plan is inconsiderate and rude and yells of entitlement.

I guess we will have to fight then huh? The chances of me seeing you at Disney are slim to none. So I guess I am alright.
