Lindas Journal - 2-29-2008.. BEWARE EDIETS!!

Sorry your knee is still bothering you....is that's what is sore, or is it because of working out?? Either way, I hope you feel better soon. I know KFC isn't helping your mood....hopefully this weekend will be great....you & BF will have a blast and Monday will come in BRIGHT & SHINEY for you.

Hang in there Linda....we're in this together...can't quit on us!!!

marie

ps - when i first read it, i thought it said BBBUUURRRRPPP!!! LOL...ok..i'm weird!

Linda, I'm sorry your knee is still bothering you! I definitely agree that you should take it easy! If you are going to Disney soon you should be really careful to let it rest and recover! The last thing you want to do is be miserable at The Happy Place! :sunny: Here's some extra pixiedust: pixiedust: to make sure that it gets all healed up in time!

Hope you had a Wonderful weekend w/ your bf!

Don't worry too much about the weight it will balance itself out soon. Like you said, you went from lots of cardio to none and that takes your body a bit to adjust to. Maybe you could walk some? I know that it is still impact on your knees, but it might not be as bad as the stairs or the bike. I don't know about the recumbent bike, but the regular bike can do a number on my knees. Maybe just walking at a decent pace would get you moving some without the extra knee stress. Also, when I was at that gym the other day a lot of people had these knee support bands on. They were about an inch wide band that went around the leg just below the knee. One of the ladies said that it doesn't look like it would do much, but it really helps her. :confused3 Might be worth checking out. I don't know what they were called though. Good luck!

Have a good night!

Hi everyone, I'm back from my weekend. It was pretty fun. I really dont like bourbon that much but it was fun anyway. I just wanted to pop in and say I will start back in exercising and journaling again tomorrow. My legs feel pretty good today and have for 2 days. I am still not ready to try anything hard but I am gonna start walking again tomorrow. I feel like a marshmallow right now and I am very edgy and tense because I need to exercise. I also have that blood sugar thing and exercise keeps that in check. Its been 2 weeks without and that is TOO LONG. I didnt meet my april exercise challenge because of it and my weight goals have gone to heck!

Thanks for your support girls! I appreciate it!

BTW, my sons percussion ensemble competed in ST louis in a regional competition this weekend. They were grand champions. They beat out the high schools in a 10 state area and they are just middle schoolers. My boy got to go up and get the trophy (cuz hes the star!) Just a little mom brag there

tata :hippie:

Linda where are you? Hope everything is going ok!

Glad you had a good weekend! :sunny: And glad to hear your knees seem to be feeling better! Don't be too hard on yourself. Have patience everything will be back to normal soon! pixiedust:

That is cool about your son's percussion ensemble! He must be a really talented kid! :sunny:

Have a good night! Hope to "see" ya soon!

I have had such a long week. I had every good intention of getting back on track and I am afraid I failed miserably. It was derby week here and that is our busiest time. I only had 1 day off, and I was soooo tired yesterday that I didnt do anything. My house is a nightmare, but I didnt clean it or anything. I have screwed up my diet royally too. I just cant seem to get it going again. When I had to stop exercising its like my entire system went wacko. It kind of snowballed. No exercise=no energy=eating snacks to try to get energy. I have been walking though. Lots everyday. I checked the mileage and I am walking 3.75 miles every day. (today it will be more) So I am hoping that will help. In the last 3 weeks I have gained about 5 lbs (that may not be really accurate cuz of course TOM factors in here too), probably at least 2 for real. I am going on vacation in a month so I need to AT LEAST be where i was 3 weeks ago (I ALREADY BOUGHT CLOTHES!)

BTW, if anyone is interested in some really good theme park type clothes...Danskin makes some of those quick-drying clothes now...running shorts and Ts and also cargo style. Really great for water rides!

Marie, I bought a camera w/o your advice. Humor me and tell me I did ok. Its a Canon powershot SD700 IS digital elph. Its very small. 4X optical zoom and image stabilization. It has a night time picture setting and even one for fireworks (wish I had it for thunder this year) It also has a viewfinder. I know that sounds stupid but a lot dont have them any more. I was originally looking at a nikon but none have a view finder, and I dont like to always do that hold the camera out to take the picture thing. And when I was on vacation at daytona last year I couldnt even see the lcd on the beach and basically took pictures in the blind. ( I have a lot of random ocean shots)

Anyway, I am gonna try to do better. I am quitting my challenges for now....I am obviously not going to lose weight in time for vacation. I am now on a challenge to just get back to normal, get my strength back to be able to at least do my stairmachine, and get back to my pre-shin splints weight.

Oh, I know my ticker is wrong. I am in denial.

:hippie:

Linda - Good choice on the camera. I personally own a Canon Rebel (35mm film) and a Canon 20D along w/ several lenses and flash units. I would recommend any of the Canon line. I wish I had bought the PowerShot when we went to WDW, instead I bought the Kodak Easy Share....big mistake!! I could have easily just thrown $200.00 out the window and gotten better results!! (keep in mind, i'm also used to shooting w/ a bigger, heavier, professional camera)
One thing that you may want to do before you go, is to take test shots, both daytime & nighttime. Alot of times the smaller cameras have a shutter delay which could cause you to miss a shot. Just have someone drive a car past you and take a picture of it. You'll know within a few times what your reaction time should be. Also, w/ the night setting, and the fireworks setting...you HAVE to hold the camera dead still, otherwise you will have camera shake and blurries. If you have a mini tripod, that would be ideal, but who wants to haul around a tripod on vaca??? One thing you can do is to brace the camera on a fence, bench, table...something solid, and take the shot. Again...practice getting used to it BEFORE you go!!

I also use the Nikon's at the studio I work for. Nikon D70 & 200. Those are pretty awsome too, although I don't know much about the small one's they carry.

Good luck and let me know how it's going!
marie

Linda, don't give up all hope! 3.75 miles is Really good! I know that walking doesn't burn as many calories but it is still good exercise!

Keep working at it and you may be suprised at your results! I hope you can get back to a weight that you are happy with before your vacation! :sunny:

Have a good week! :hippie:

Today was my "back on track" day. I did okay. I decided I needed to shock my system a little so I attempted to do a liquid diet today. I made it thru work on it anyway. I also drank lots of water and green tea. Unfortuantely, my job doesnt let me go to the bathroom whenever I want so this was HARD! I was dying a couple of times. When I got home from work I ended up having a sandwich. Still not a bad day.

I have been sick. It may be allergies I'm not sure but I am miserable. I conked out tonite and fell asleep for about an hour. I couldnt walk because it was raining but I did get 20 mins on the stairmachine. First time on the stairmachine since the shin splints. It was fine. I just have to build up my stamina again so I can get some good exercise.

Heres my food today:

Welcome back onto the "track" :thumbsup2 Glad you were able to do the stairmaster w/out pain! :cheer2: You will be back to your normal routine before you know it!

Way to go making it most of the day on the liquid diet! That is one thing I KNOW I wouldn't be able to do! :rolleyes1 I knew this lady that had gastric bypass surgery and she had to do the liquid diet thing for like 6 weeks afterwards. I thought to myself, "if you could do a liquid diet for 6 weeks you wouldn't Need gastric bypass!" Nothing against the surgery, but I think it should be a last resort not an "easy" out, cause it is anything but easy. (sorry got off on a tangent there)

Hope you are having a good day! :sunny:

okay, so I bought some of those pirates of the carribean m&ms. The calories still didnt end up bad.

I am probably gonna do badly tomorrow. I am taking mom to lunch for mothers day since I have to work sunday. Maybe I will have a salad or something. We'll see...wish me luck!

:hippie:

BTW- I baked cookies today...chocolate chunk cookies and I ate---NONE
I also bought snacks and pizzas for my boys sleepover tonite...and I ate---NONE!

Well for Mothers day yesterday (I work today) we went to Smoky Bones. I tried to make good choices, opting for the smoked Turkey Sandwich. For my side I got steamed broccoli. It was delicious. I have no idea on the calorie count, it was a fairly big sandwich, but I skipped the mayo. It did have swiss cheese tho. Originally I cut it in half thinking I wouldnt eat it all, but I did. :confused3 .. Oh well. Still better than a rack of baby back ribs I'm sure. We went to a movie afterwards (M I III) and I didnt have any snacks. I had brought a nutrisystem chocolate bar just in case but didnt eat it.

After taking mom home I still had to run errands and such so I didnt get home until late. Funny story. I got my mom a hanging basket of flowers, and I also got her NIck and Nora PJs and slippers and a book. She got me a present too. I opened it and it was Nick and Nora PJs and a book as well. At least they werent the same PJs.

Gotta work a bit, I'll log todays stuff later tonite.

:hippie:

Happy Mothers Day Linda!
Sorry you had to work today...but it sounds like you had a good day yesterday!
LOL about the pj's & book!
How's the camera?

Happy Mother's Day, Linda! :grouphug:

Way to go on making good choices while eating out! :sunny:

Hope you had a Good day today! How much longer til your Disney trip? I know you must be getting excited! :sunny: Have a great week!

Its 26 days til my trip! Its mostly Universal, we are staying at Royal Pacific Resort, but we will also be going to Sea World, Epcot and Disney Quest. It will be awesome, the only thing I'm worried about is the drive down. I am driving, and we cant leave until BF gets off work around 4:30. I am planning on driving to around Dalton Ga the first night, then the rest of the way the next day. I have to drive 100% of the time cuz BF doesnt drive a stick! I am used to that but its still worrisome (a bit), esp with 3 teen boys in the back.

Today I slept in. (mothers day). But at around 11 I woke up my boy and told him if he wanted to give me breakfast in bed he better hurry up! :rotfl2:
He brought me cheerios and an omelette (I ate 1/2). Then he brought me my cards and presents. He gave me a card from the dog it was hilarious! He also gave me some dvd sets. He did well, I was proud. He used to buy me gifts that HE really wanted...X=box game or CD he liked, but he really thought about it this time and he did well. Wrapped them up and everything.

I did ok on my food and exercise today. I did the exercise bike at work- 2 30 min sessions and I was sweating at the end both times so I think I did preety good.

I think I did really well with the exercise toay. I feel much better about it.

:hippie:

My boy was sick yesterday, so I stayed home from work and took him to the Dr. I thought he might have strep, he had a bad cold and very sore throat. He tested negative tho, so they asked about his allergies and asthma. Well he has an inhaler he uses, but he hasnt been taking allergy meds for a couple of years. (he didnt seem to need them , just occassional stuff) BAD MOM ALERT! He MUST KEEP taking his allergy meds, and then they are gonna give him ad-vair and do more testing later for the asthma. Honestly, when I was a kid we somehow survived childhood without a cabinet-full of pharmaceuticals. :confused3 Anyway, hes back on Zyrtec and says it is working, but he still has wheezing so we'll see about that.

Work was CRAZY today. FOG-yuck! Crazy supervisors, crazy managers, crazy airplane drivers. And it lasted FOREVER! By 2pm I felt as if the day should be over and I still had 4 hours to go! I have to get up at 4am so I better get some rest tonite. But at least tomorrow is my friday! :cool1:

total cals-1085

exercise- 58 mins walking (I did my 3.75 miles in 58 mins, thats pretty good I think) and 15 mins on stairmachine, 480 cals burned. Still feeling good about the exercise, but not having any effect on the scale yet. :confused3
I am staying pretty focused and determined. I have been doing this for almost 2 years so I know what the pitfalls are and I know I wont fall in, but I could sure use some sort of positive effects to keep my spirits up.

:hippie:

I was bad today. I started out really good. But I had pizza for supper. Chef boy-r-dee. Pretty much blew the ole diet for today. Other than that I started good, muffins for breakfast, a hard boiled egg for snack and one of those 100 cal packs of wheat thins, but then pizza for dinner and of course a sugar free fudgesicle. I dont know how many calories it was but I'm stuffed and I didnt have time to exercise today. Blah! Getting up at 4am sux! It makes me so tired that I dont want to do anything.

Heres a pic of my baby girl to make me feel better.

arwen005.jpg

:hippie: aint she a cutie? Arwen is her name

Hey Linda! Don't be too down about yesterday! The pizza gets us all every now and then :teeth: Getting up at 4am especially! When I used to go to work at 5am I would eat ALL day long. I had 2 breakfasts, early lunch, midafternoon snack, then dinner. Glad I don't have to do that anymore. Hang in there, at least you only have the occasional blunder.

You have been doing Really Awesome on your exercise! I think 58 minutes is Really good for 3.75 miles! :cheer2: :cheer2: I am usually pretty excited if I get my 3 miles in under 50 minutes. Plus you are mixing it up by getting the bike and stairmaster in there :cool1: I bet you will start seeing results again in no time. And you will be so much more relaxed in the theme parks on your trip since your body will be used to the extra walking :yay:

Have a great weekend! :sunny:

Thanks for the support Amber! I did better today , food-wise. I had the day off so I slept in. Then I went and got an eye exam for new contacts. I picked up the boy at school and showed him the new driver and 3-wood his grampa had just gotten him. He had to try them out so I took him and 2 little neighbor girls to the driving range. It was nice, so when I got home I walked my 3.75 miles. It took longer today tho, I'm not sure why, it seemed like I was walking fast. I was wearing jeans since it was cool out but I was surprised it took me 65 mins. Anyway, heres todays eats:

Scrambled Egg Mix with Cheese 1 Package 150
Pre-cooked Canadian Bacon 1 pcs 20

sugar free fudgesicle 1 40
