Hey Linda,

Congrats on getting back into the swing of running after your vacation. I am really proud of you for jumping back in. Great runs!

Take care,
Beth

Hi, Linda. Just wanted to say thanks for all your encouragement on my journal - I greatly appreciate it!

Congrats on your successful 1/2 - it sounds to me like you are just going to have more and more successful races from here on out!

Hope you are doing well - check in when you have a chance!

Susan

Hi everyone,
Not so great here,no motivation at all. I have not run since my last post I think. It has been a couple of weeks.Just don't have it in me,I don't get it.
Linda

Hi Linda,

I completely understand...lacking motivation to run happens to all of us . Here's a suggestion..just take it FWIW. I was lacking the run mojo too...and instead of jumping back in full tilt I'm starting over. Yep...starting from scratch LOL! I'm doing the Bingham plan for a Half Marathon which should get me into August...I'll stay at the 6/5/10 until I have to really ramp up for Goofy training in late September. So my early runs (read:now) will be easy peasy as I slowly built my base again...and try to search (possibly in vain) for that elusive love of running. Beyond that I plan to cycle my butt off both in spin class and doing one long road ride per week. So 3 days/week of running for me starting slow and working on form, breathing and even going back to my long lost run:walk intervals. I just can't push myself with running anymore ;).

So...that's my plan...it might help if you try the same but I'd understand if that's not in the cards for you. Best of luck Linda!

Hi, Linda. Sorry you are having a tough time with motivation right now - I do understand the feeling!

Maybe if you incorporated some other form of exercise that you really love, or even something brand new, into your routine that might help??? Maybe you just need to shake things up a bit. I don't know how helpful that is, but that's the only suggestion I have.

Knowing your drive and determination, I am sure that this is just a temporary slump - you'll be back out there pulling those incredible times on your runs in no time!

Hope you have a good day!

Susan

Thanks Amy and Susan,
I did go out this morning after posting and reading everyone else's progress. It did motivate me.

I think the starting over suggstion Amy is a good one.My form and my breathing is all off because I am out of shape.

Susan changing things up a bit is a good idea,a friend at work wants me to run after work around a resevoir(?sp) A change of scenary is not a bad thing either.I may take him up on it.

Well anyway I did 6 miles in 63:46,a 10:37 pace.I felt like I was in quicksand.
Here's hoping to be able to move tomorrow ;)

Have a great weekend everyone,we are off to Cape Cod for a soccer tourney.Maybe I will get a run in there.

Linda

Hi Linda :goodvibes:

Keeping that motivation is certainly a difficult thing to manage. I think there has to be a target there somewhere to keep you moving. For me, running is what got me to the fittest, most healthiest point of my life...so it's the core of my working out...I feel the need to keep doing it, or fear blowing back up to where I was a few years ago. I do know that having some kind of event out there to train for is a tremendous help. Have you thought about signing up for a local 5k or maybe 10k? Having something out there on the radar may provide enough of a spark to get you going again.

I like the change of scenery idea, also I'd suggest mixing up the tempo a little bit...doing fartleks...increase your speed for a minute, then relax back into your normal stride...when you feel good again, increase for another min...just keep repeating that...maybe that would help with the monotony.

Anyway, super glad to see that you got back out there this morning and you had a great pace to boot!

Have a good day :)

Hey, Linda. Wassup??? Check in when you have a minute - I'm wondering how your runs in the new location are going!

Susan

Just getting back from work,10 hour days, after vacation- have not run in a new location yet.Hope to get there soon, the runs at the Cape did not work out.

Linda

Hi, Linda. I totally understand - my exercise plans are not working out this week, either! We just have to keep trying and not give up.

Thanks for checking in - have a good one!

Susan

Just back from 3.1 miles, in 31:21,a 10:06 pace.Starting over is really depressing!

Hope everyone else is hanging in there,
Linda

Hey Linda! Just checking in on ya! I'm starting over too... You're not alone! Even starting again, I think your pace is great. I know you would like to improve it, but as a bystander, I think it's great.

You know...The same thing happened to us when we planted grass. The day we planted it, it poored a flood and it all washed away. Hopefully you'll retain some of yours!!!

Hope you have a good weekend!
Stacie

Just back from 3.2 miles in 31:54.I calculate my pace on runner'sworld.com and it appears that either I put it in wrong or something else happened. It said today my pace was 9:58 but took longer so I rechecked yesterdays pace and it was different!

I did recheck and it was right yesterday!
Thursday: 3.1 miles in 31:21 a 10:06 pace
Friday: 3.2 miles in 31:54 a 9:58 pace

That's better, I want to continue to be below 10 min miles.I am going to check again, hope it isn't different again. It was!

Now off to do weights

Have a great weekend everyone,
Linda

Linda...it's the heat and the humidity. Don't beat yourself up!!

Good job getting back out there. I know it's hard to look at the numbers/pace when it's below normal, but in tough weather conditions you can't expect normal pace. you did great running in this heat! Matter of fact..I turned around and came in this morning at 8:30. Was too humid and hot already for me. I'll try again tomorrow at 7 am.

Have a great weekend! :goodvibes
