Limo Driver Tipping

I have searched the forum for this question, but have come out empty handed.

I have gotten answers to how much to tip for mousekeeping and bellhops, however; I can't find anything for tipping the Limo driver.

In 2003, we tipped the Limo driver $1-$2 per bag - there were five us so we had around 7-8 bags I think I rounded it up because I had envelopes with tips already made out for everyone.

So what is the going tip rate now for tipping Limo drivers?

I usually tip commensurate with fare, just as you would a taxi driver. Just as with other percentage based gratuity, your rate varies with level of service. Assistance with bags, as is expected with a limo service, can earn additional gratuity especially if you had to haul my stuff across an airport.

We tipped 15% of the fare when we took a limo to the Boston airport. That was the general result I got from Google searches on the subject last year. He did not carry the bags any distance, just put them in the trunk and then onto the sidewalk.

I agree - I would tip a percentage of the fare...15 - 20%.

Many companies will add customary tip to your bill before you travel. That's what we do...usually $20.

The only time I've ever paid a limo driver myself was for my BFF's bachlorette party, we did a wine tasting tour and had the driver for 5 hours. I tipped him based on his service and the rate I paid for the limo, there was a small gratuity included with the fee but I gave him extra because he was amazing!!!! We never had to wait for him, he was friendly, courteous, he went above and beyond we felt (we bought a lot of wine, he would have the car ready when we were walking out of the winery and he made sure all the bottles we bought (there were 7 of us, lots of bottles lol) were well protected and separated so when we were dropped off we knew what belonged to who) so I gave him extra, I think they added 10% and I gave him cash for another 15% or so. I also got his card...wonder if I still have it.
