I have an 8 month old, we are going to DW and on the Cruise and for packing reasons, I am thinking of getting a non-disposable swim diaper instead of bringing 20 Lil Swimmer diapers. Has anyone used a non-disp. swim diaper? What do you do if they go #2, do you have to rinse it off then put the diaper back on?..how does this work? Or are they ONLY good for 1 session a day in the water?

Its been a few years since I used non disposable ones but i always washed it in the machine afterwards, so on a trip you would need a few pairs.

We used cloth dipes with DS, so using reusable swim dipes was only natural. However, sometimes the people in charge at public swim areas don't understand it, and won't allow them. Therefore, while we would use the normal swim dipes at our apartment pool (where we knew that we could have a conversation with management), when we went to, say, my brother's housing development's fancy pool, we brought disposables.

If I were going on a cruise, even if I were bringing the CDs with plans to wash them (I believe Disney cruises have washing machines), I would very likely bring the disposable swim dipes, along with some normal ones...that way I wasn't entirely out of luck if the normal ones were not allowed by someone who didn't understand.

If baby poops (and the whole point of swim dipes is to contain that, of course, so do NOT put baby into a swim dipe before you're ready to go into the pool, because they don't contain pee!) you will need to do more than rinse them...you will want to wash them well, even if it's just in the cabin's bathroom sink. You might use the time you have left before the vacation to start noticing any signs baby makes before pooping. That way you might have early warning to get baby up and out of the pool, and possibly put baby over a non-swim dipe (or heck, over a toilet, if you want to not have to clean up the dirty dipe, LOL) and just not deal with the situation of if baby poops in the swim dipe. :)

I really preferred the reusable ones. Just wash them out well in the sink or in your laundry. I travel with two, one to wear and one that is drying from the last use.

:thumbsup2 This is what we do.

We use both. We recently used the reusable ones in Jamaica and they took a long time to dry, but so did the rest of our swim gear (bathing suits, towels, etc.). Must have been the humidity or something. I rotated two reusable with disposables here and there. Poop in the diaper would need more than a quick rinse. I would recommend the iplay reusable diapers. You can buy them on Amazon and I think I just saw them at Target recently, also.

I did not know they made reusable. Nobody in my "circle" has ever mentioned it to me even our Cloth diapering aunt. Where can I find them?

We used resusable swim diapers when we took our twin 6 months old on a week long disney cruise. We brought two of them. They worked great, we rinsed them in the cabin sink and hung them to dry in the shower on the line after use. I like them so much better then the disposable ones - it really freaks me out to think of the chemicals in the disposable ones.

We always use reusable swim diapers, and have never had an issue with poop. For some reason niether of the boys poops when we go swimming sadly this does not transfer to the bathtub - yuck.

from the 2 forums I am asking this question on, the overall concensus is that I should get 2 reusable swim diapers, so I think that's what I'll do.

I thought kids in swim diapers weren't allowed in cruise ship pools at all. In fact, I just found this:

Kids & TeensQuestion
Is it true that children must be toilet trained in order to enter the pools?
Answer
Yes. The United States Public Health Service requires that only children who are toilet trained be permitted to enter swimming pools and spas onboard cruise ships. Young children who are not toilet trained are welcome to enjoy the fountain play area near the Mickey Pool. It's designed exclusively for the enjoyment of children wearing swim diapers.

on the Disney Cruise Line web page. I believe this goes for ALL cruise lines.

Sorry.

I have used these before. Usually you will need a couple. I would not rinse and reuse a poopy diaper...it would need to be washed with soap. Due to their nature, you can do this buy hand--but strictly rinsing..no way no how!

But depending on how long you play in the water--it could be a nonissue. Just take the diaper off and put a regular one on when they are not directly playing around the water.

Kids can utilize the pools at the parks in swimmies--they cannot on board ships. When we sailed, they had a splash area just for the little ones so that they could play in the water, but not be a health hazard to others.

Same here. I only used the reusable ones. Just buy 2 (Target sometimes has them on sale) and have one drying while you are using the other one.

You Have to have a swim diaper to use the splash zones on the cruise too. Our boys LOVED the splash zone it was really fun and the water is warm so it's great for little ones.

You can also find them at Babies r us, and boutique baby stores.

My oldest was in pools before they came out with disposable swim diapers. It was so gross when she pooped in the non-disposable ones! I do admit they do work better than the disposable, but the disposable are much easier.
