Likelihood of WDW 2010 half opening back up?

If you were a betting man/woman, where would you stick your money? Do you think the half will open back up (and if so, how much longer until it might), or do you think it will remain closed?

Yes, I procrastinated and did not get in on the half when it was open. Hubby is encouraging me to enter the full but that scares the bejezus out of me since I battle plantar fasciitis so badly. If the half opens back up I'm there. If not, I'm on the fence about the full!

I think last year it reopened with a few spots sometime in October or November. But I think you can still get in if you register through the travel company affiliated with Disney Sports or through a charity. I think the DIS Unplugged team was also looking into holding a few spots for the half and full but I haven't heard any updates recently.

Yes, The Dis UnPlugged is working on the paperwork for a team sponsoring Give Kids the World. As soon as the paperwork is completed I'm sure a link will be posted.:thumbsup2

Now THIS is a cause I would Gratefully support!!! I was going to sign up with the travel company... but, If this is going to really happen, I would like to be a part of this. Where will the link be posted?

seeing as I was staying on dvc points travel option wans't an option....I opted for the princess half. I really wanted to sign up for the jan half but in the end it worked out and I am very excited...i didn't want to take a chance of that one filling up too.

It is definitely supposed to happen. It will probably be posted on the Podcast Disboard first and I'm sure a post will also be here on the WISH boards.

I'm so very new into events that I honestly have no clue what it means to run with a team. Would someone break it down for me in lay terms what it would mean, ie: how it's different than registering and running on your own?

Well, it depends. If you are with TNT or CCFA there is a minimum fund raising goal you have to meet. The teams are regionally based and often offer training programs along with the race registration. That is usually all included as long as you make the goal.

The DIS Unplugged's GKTW group will be a bit different from what I understand. You will want to wait until all the paperwork is signed and the event is posted but I believe there will be room blocks and race entries that don't have a fundraising goal. Knowing the guys they might just donate the proceeds to the charity or ask for something small like $100 for GKTW. This is all speculation on that last part but Dave and Cathy (Mouse Skywalker and Safety Mom) are working with Disney and will post something once it is finalized. I spoke with Pete and both of them on the podcast cruise and apparently working with Disney Sports is like pulling teath.

My husband and I used Anthony Travel. The package includes registration for the 1/2 and there is a three night requirement for on site lodging. I think they have Pop, Port Orleans, and The Poly for room choices. They will help arrange flights as well, but the price they quoted us was way over what we found on our own. So we booked our own tickets.

I'm still a little unsure about how we make sure that we get our names on our bibs and such, but overall it's been a good experience. Anthony Travel is very helpful and the package deal costs as much as it would have had we done it all on our own.

good luck!!:goodvibes

Dreams is working on getting room blocks as previously mentioned. An update on the podcast board was that they have everything in place and are just waiting on the final contract.

If you don't want to wait Anthony Travel has runner packages that include half, full, or goofy registrations. You will have to book 3 resort nights through them along with the package though. The resort choices are CBR, POP, BWI, Poly, and NOFQ. All the resorts aren't there but there is a wide range of possibilities. I used them for the 2008 half and had no complaints.

Later in the fall, you'll get an email from Anthony saying it's time to officially register for the race. At that time you'll actually register through the Disney site, and then you'll show up on their site as registered just like everyone else. That way your name will be on your bib and the race procedure will be completely seamless. We used them last year for the full, and we're using them again this year for the Goofy. I like their discounted park ticket prices (which they'll offer later in the year as well.)
