Remember the Laci Peterson case? The whole country followed that, yet around the same time, a black pregnant woman was killed and thrown in a dumpster. I don't know why certain people get coverage. Maybe it has to do with looks? Laci and Casey were/are beautiful (dare I say white?) middle class women.

Was she missing before she was found murdered? If not, then she was just another homicide. I think it's the whole kindapping/missing thing that generates attention.

We had a similar story in my area last year. The woman wasn't reported as missing before she was discovered, so that's probably why it didn't generate national interest? Anyway, the woman had a rap sheet for dealing drugs that they figured it was a deal gone bad. There was no spouse to look into.

Also, I think that a lot of it has to do with how sensational the story becomes. Like CA, the nanny kidnapping lie, the partying photos, etc. kind of created a scandal in FL and other stations picked it up since it was causing such an outrage. Had there not been such a story behind the whole CA thing, I don't think it would've gone national.

Too bad Carmegeddon was a bust - that could have taken away some of the attention. I guess we will have to wait for the next big thing. But consider this a learning experience - time to find a better news source than HLN. (not you specifically)

I get news on the internet, so I don't get the same feeling as others here have gotten, that this is the only news story out there.

Oh, probably for weeks. The whole time from post-verdict to the time she was released, they were playing that "breaking news" thing. I would think "Oooh, what's new now?" and it would be the same rehash of the verdict being read and the public reaction. There was no breaking news yet they'd play that stupid intro over and over and over again. Annoying as all get out. Time to dump it and ONLY bring it out if there's something major. And no, a "possible" sighting called in by someone who has no photo or video to back it up is not a breaking headline, HLN!!!!

I told you that missing people make big news! And, I guess we can consider CA a missing person now. Would be nice if she'd just disappear/vanish. Now, I don't mean via death, so please don't go misinterpreting that and say that I want her dead!!! I just mean disappear/vanish via keeping on the down low, hiding out and keeping away from the public spotlight.

I would guess (as I'm not familiar with the cases) that the 5 moms in your area didn't wait 31 days to report their dead children. They didn't lie a kidnapping, etc. There weren't lies upon lies to create a "sensational" story as this one was. I could be mistaken since I don't know of these cases but it's my guess there wasn't anything to really make people interested.

I volunteer at the Missing & Exploited Childrens unit once a week. I have been doing this for 5 years. Is that beneficial enough for you?

I hope she slips away quietly and we never hear from her again- but I can't say I wish her a peaceful life. I hope she relives every lie she told and every bad decision she made every night for the rest of her miserable existance.

I don't understand why HLN cable channel has been doing continuous coverage on her even though the trial ended almost 2 weeks ago. They have not returned to regular programming at all. Its still all Casey all the time.

They are even replaying the trial. All of it.

Wondering when they will be done with this story.

I've got to be honest I don't know but I hope not. MJ was not normal...I mean wealth, fame, talent and the ghosts that go along with it, but his case was not imo anything different than so many "legal" drug users due to their fame and wealth. Bad medicine yes, murder I just do'n't think so. MJ cash cow to this fool, it was a tragic mistake and his fame doens't change that fact for me.

I think that with all the news outlets, unless there is a major breaking story, they have too much air time. CNN is great because it's always there when something big does happen, but when nothing big is going on, they need to fill airtime. Unfortunately, it gets filled with this type of story. They just take it and run with it and blow it totally out of proportion, because there is nothing else to talk about. There will always be some people who will assume that the level of coverage means the story is important, and get too wrapped up in it. Also, this type of coverage is easy. I bet there are some very important stories that need to be told, but finding them would take legwork.

TRU was advertising a case starting Monday in which a man is being tried for some level of homicide in the death of a good samaritan. The gentleman who died stopped to help the defendant and was hit by a 3rd individual. The woman who hit him has pled to vehicular manslaughter/drunk driving (if I recall correctly). This guy is being tried as there is some indication he may have been drunk as well, and the victim wouldn't have died had he not stopped to help the defendant. Coincidentally, this is occurred in Florida.

Obviously the interest is still there, so it will continue to be a news story.

No, the mothers never reported the children as deceased. They were discovered by police as deceased. Most in the home, shortly after they were killed. In one case, the newborn's body was found buried, and linked to the mom.

I'm sitting here waiting on the baseball game to come on and "of course" the media has to cover the Casey Anthony story all over again.

This time they are attempt to find out where she is. ***? Are you serious? WHY WOULD ANYONE CARE? And to make matters worse, there were people who showed up to the jail at 12am WITH THEIR KIDS to protest. Like, what type of life do you have if you're doing that? How obsessed can someone be with another person's life to delicate so much time and effort to showing up to a jail to see someone get released?

Bottom line...she walked! Get over it. Its not the first time it ever happened in the judicial system and it damn sure won't be the last.

I'm so tired of hearing about this woman. There are much more important things to expose your children to beside this crap. And that damn Nancy Grace is the WORST! She needs to sit down somewhere and be happy some people are swallow enough to tune in to her pointless show. Enough of this! Please.

Isn't this like an oxymoron? I am so tired of the Casey Anthony case I think I'll start a new thread about it?
