Exactly, let's keep giving a narcissistic sociopath the attention that she wants. She is probably somewhere googling herself and printing out articles for her scrapbook. the protestors would have "spoken" louder if they had just not shown up and CA would be wondering why no one was out there to "see" her off.

I thought it was partly that, but also a way to keep those freakishly similar names from getting confused. All those CMAs!!!

The names Casey and Caylee were VERY easy to interchange. People did it all the time. Commentators, witnesses, the lawyers. Calling Casey "Tot Mom" made certain she never confused her name with Caylee's and she's one of the few people to pull that off. Heck, even family members confused the names at times. What a mess.

Just a question...since Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murder, would it be considered slander to badmouth her? Could Nancy Grace get in trouble for continuing to badger her (or others?)

Maybe defamation of character? But I seriously doubt Casey would pursue charges. She would have to have might big you-know-whats to do that. But then again, OJ wrote a book called If I Did It. I guess you can't put it past these killers to do anything.

I tried to avoid covering Casey Anthony in the newscasts I produced, but there just was too much public interest, which shocked me. This happened 3,000 miles from here, and we have 5 moms on trial here for killing their kids, and it seems those cases are generating zero public interest.

I totally agree with this. All the energy could be used for good purposes. There are children right now that need help. Why not use their time to do something more beneficial?

Remember the Laci Peterson case? The whole country followed that, yet around the same time, a black pregnant woman was killed and thrown in a dumpster. I don't know why certain people get coverage. Maybe it has to do with looks? Laci and Casey were/are beautiful (dare I say white?) middle class women.

The constant coverage on certain channels is crazy, but I manage to spend plenty of time NOT watching it.... in fact, if it weren't for this board, there's a good possibility I wouldn't even know anything about it.

And all these people who claim to be so sadden by the out come, should look to adopt or save children who come from broken homes or bad situations.

I can certainly understand wanting to save a child from a bad situation. But last I knew "broken homes" was a euphemism for "divorce". I think it's incredibly hurtful to assume that a child with divorced parents needs rescuing. Just because the parents aren't together doesn't mean that the child is in harm's way and I cannot even believe someone would suggest that.

I'm hoping "broken home" means something different than it did when I was younger???

Missing/kidnapped children stories make far more news than stories of moms who just outright murdered their kids. Look at Susan Smith. If she didn't lie about the carjacking, it would be just a story that wouldn't make national headlines. However, her lies and the discovery of those lies made it so sensational. Casey's case started out as a missing child and snowballed from there with the lies.

An average man who murders his wife doesn't make national headlines. However, a missing pregnant woman does make national headlines. Where is she? Did she run off to another state? Did her husband kill her? Outright admittedly murdered by spouse vs. missing, turned up murdered and mysterious ... makes a difference.

I think that the reason this got so much public attention was due to the fact that CA went for 31 days without reporting her child missing. I think that, once that information was known, people started to pay attention. Add on the sensationalism of a kidnapping by a nanny that didn't exist (and was being hunted in FL and NY) and you're giving people more reason to want to know about this case. Add on the multiple lies about where she worked and it got nuttier. Add the partying mom photos and it got even worse.

I would guess (as I'm not familiar with the cases) that the 5 moms in your area didn't wait 31 days to report their dead children. They didn't lie a kidnapping, etc. There weren't lies upon lies to create a "sensational" story as this one was. I could be mistaken since I don't know of these cases but it's my guess there wasn't anything to really make people interested.

I don't understand why HLN cable channel has been doing continuous coverage on her even though the trial ended almost 2 weeks ago. They have not returned to regular programming at all. Its still all Casey all the time.

They are even replaying the trial. All of it.

Wondering when they will be done with this story.
