Like a Bad Meal (V Keeps Coming Back) - THE END! 1/12/09

Well V I guess I owe you a huge thank you!!! With this trip you gave the 2 resorts I am staying in in 32 days thumbs up. It's like having my own personal travel reviewer. :thumbsup2 I'm so glad you liked the GF, this will be my first stay there, but I have always been curious to stay there and since Kelly likes frou frou, what better trip to finally try it.

So isn't SAB da bomb! I just love that sand bottom and plan on hitting quite a bit in August!

Now that tea does sound nice, I may treat myself on a solo trip. I just love my tea (unlike some non Brit non Fockers we know and love;) )

Looking forward to seeing you again:goodvibes

Yay, happy to assist! :goodvibes

You really should - you'd love it!

Ditto my friend!

V I need another update before I go to my Dad's on Friday please :flower3:
What Jo said
Oy, I'll try, but it's a crazy week! :flower3:

My town, village, whatever you want to call it, has a sand bottom olympic size swimming pool. No one uses it. They all think it is gross, because they cannot see crystal clear water. Yet everyone goes to our state parks and swims in the germ-induced lakes though.
:rotfl2: People are so weird!
the upkeep hardly costs anything, since it is "spring fed"
Oh how neat! Is it chlorinated, too, or just the spring water?

BTW, I have bad news to share with you. :guilty: I'll PM shortly...

These pictures are fantastic and the way you paint the picture of your first impressions of the BCV would make anyone fall in love with the resort...
Aw, thanks Jordan! :goodvibes
I LOVE these pictures...So tranquil, so unlike the normal atmosphere of SAB. I'm wondering if you got to hang out there....
:ssst: I won't give anything away! It was sooo nice walking around before it opened though.

i have been thoroughly enjoying your trip report. I am glad I found it.
Hi snowbell! Thanks and welcome!

I'm a little late in responding but...eh, it's okay, since I know it will be written in jealousy as we all know who is gonna be pre-season #1...hehehe. ;)

I actually have seen Illuminations from the R&C patio but, unfortunately, my table was right by the building, so my view was blocked by the canopy that juts out overhead. The people at the table in front of us, invited us to scoot up and watch, but we didn't really want to intrude too much so while we scooted a little, we still saw the canopy. :confused3
Darn!
I'm glad you liked my description and used it. When I read that it truly made me :lmao: !
::yes:: What's more - I've been struggling with it a lot lately and every time I'm in front of the mirror messing with it, I think of it as "The Anomaly!" :rotfl:

Yay for #8! I'm glad that he made it out of the pool finally. Poor little guy.
I know! :goodvibes

So V .. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WRITE A BOOK ??
Katt, you're so sweet! But I'm actually not a very good creative writer; trip reports seem to be my only repertoire. I'm much better at theses. Which may or may not be "creative", depending on how much B.S. is thrown in. :rolleyes1
Scott FORBID me to cut down the "Manageable" trees when we moved in here 11 years ago( however I caught him gone and took out a Mountain Laural while I was 6 months pregnant:laughing:  )..
:lmao:

There is also a Basin store at Downtown Disney ~ they have the same stuff :)
::yes:: Exactly!

Well I am glad I could help inject some humor to the situation. I know what it feels like to have NON behaving hair. I did the whole blow dry-flat iron thing for awhile but I just could not handle the love-hate relationship, so I broke down, got a perm and now it is wash - with Redken's Fresh Curls, add some Redken's Fresh Curls lotion/creme to it, and go! Can you tell I love my Redken's Fresh Curls? :lovestruc I wish it worked for you. :confused3

I hear you. I had a perm once and it was GREAT! Same curls, but so much less effort. Problem now is that my hair takes the color funny with a perm, and I need to touch-up the roots every 2-3 weeks; I'd wind up two-toned. :headache:

Ya know, JO leaves for her dad's on Friday..just sayin:rolleyes1
I know, I missed her. :guilty:
popcorn:: popcorn:: but who am I to talk. I was MIA for a MONTH.
LOL, yeah!! And, I need to get over to yours before I start writing, so there. ;)

I'm hoping to write some today, but work's been crazy this week, my computer crashed yesterday, AND I'm working part time while Leo is at horse camp. :faint: Too much to do and too little time! But I'll try. :flower3:

Even more reason for it to be known as "The Anomaly"! ;)

Moving right along, it’s about time to start in on Trip #3. The title here is spot-on. And here’s why…

What self-respecting Floridian would even have the nerve to consider visiting Walt Disney World in July?! As if that’s not bad enough, what Floridian, who holds a Seasonal Pass in order to avoid the worst of heat, crowds and holidy-itus, would actually look to see what kind of rates might be had… over July 4th weekend????

Hi. I’m V. And I’m a bad Floridian.

I’d suggest revoking my Florida license, but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone down here from driving

I suppose you could not count my vote in the primary race…

OH SNAP!!!! :headache:

So yeah, I committed the ultimate Florida sin and visited WDW in July. During a holiday. With Gramma, no less.

What on earth would possess me to engage in such reckless behavior?

I had my reasons. And. They were pretty good ones. If you ask me. Even, if you don’t.

WHY I WENT TO DISNEY IN JULY, by PrincessV

Here’s the thing: Leo starts 1st grade next fall. And, while I would happily pull him from school for vacations, my job doesn’t provide enough vacation hours to cover the times school is out for various breaks as well as vacations during school. This all dawned on me sometime in late June, as I struggled to create a ‘vacation plan’ for the next year.

Add to this new situation a burning desire on my part and Leo’s to get ourselves some more water park time before our WP annual passes expire in late August. A sprinkling of sauna-like summer conditions that spell Summer in Florida only added to our desire to hit the waves, which, by the way, are about 10 degrees cooler than both our home pool and the Gulf of Mexico.

So, I started thinking we could head over to WDW sometime over the summer. But when? Remember, by the time I started thinking about it, it was mid to late June. Leo would be with his dad for two weeks in July, and every other weekend the rest of summer, excepting my own two-week vacation period. AND, we have the big FockerFest DIS meet coming up in late August, so August was pretty much out.

Look at your calendar – narrows it down quite a bit, no?

A couple other factors at play in the decision-making process were:

1. We’d really need to stay overnight and hit our water park upon opening. If we wanted to visit more than one water park it would require two nights. Hard to do over a weekend, since I refuse to ever attempt the Friday night drive to Disney again. ~shudder~

2. Recession, recession, recession.

Huh???

How does a recession play into a last-minute trip to Disney? Easy: it’s nailing tourism in Florida. Which isn’t a good thing overall (especially for V – I work in economic development!), but can spell BIG savings for Floridians wishing to vacation in their own state. I’d seen the reports trickling in at work; visitors were down already by late June and the outlook indicated a further decline.

Junkie that I am, I knew just what to do with that kind of information…

PASSHOLDER WEBSITE!!!!!

It started out with me saying “I’ll just look. Out of curiosity. Will there be any deals this summer?” But I needed some dates to plug in. And July 4th weekend stood out as the best possible time. With Independence Day falling on a Friday, Leo and I had a three-day weekend, thus providing plenty of time to water park our little hearts out.

But seriously. July 4th weekend???? :crazy2:

No way. Impossible. Uh-uh. Forget it.

I looked anyway…

O

M

G!!!!!!

Not only were there discounted rooms available, there were many discounted rooms available! At every WDW resort! In nearly all room categories!!!

It was really too much. I couldn’t even make a decision. I needed to sit down, take some deep breaths and think things through.

I also needed to consider the Gramma Factor.

She had to work the morning of July 4th, but we’d already made plans to see our local fireworks that night, and they included her. I couldn’t really ditch her and say, “Sorry Gramma, we decided to bale. We’re goin’ to DISney and you’re NOT, neener, neener, neener!!”

At least I don’t think I can do that…

By the time I got home that night, I’d decided we could celebrate the 4th at home and leave for WDW early the next morning. Really early. Like 6am, to make it to a water park by its 9am openings.

All of which I shared with Gramma that night.

This would be the Gramma who was so happy to hear that she was under no obligation to come on our August trip. Who happily waved us off when Leo and I hit The Wolrd by ourselves in April. The Gramma who HATES crowds and HATES heat and humidity.

That Gramma… asked if she could come along. In July! No joke. Not only did she want to come along, she also offered to contribute to the cost, (I rarely touch on this subject in my TRs because it seems too mean even for me, but trust V – money is one of the issues I have with Gramma), and suggested that we go over on July 4th and stay two nights, instead of one. :woohoo:

“Who is this woman?!” thought I. Whilst powering up the laptop to make a reservation before she changed her mind. ;)

I’ll say this, my options were decreased some when I looked for a room over both nights, but there were still plenty of resorts and room categories from which to choose. Gramma claims not to care where we stay and I basically picked our destination through process of elimination:

Values – nope, need a fridge and not willing to pay for it.

Mods – nope, too hot for outdoor walkways

Most Deluxes – too expensive, even with the AP discount

Animal Kingdom Lodge – we’ll be at the Villas in Dec., so nope

Wilderness Lodge (WL) – we have a winner! Only Courtyard View available, but at a great rate; booked!!!

I was stoked. And actually, so was Gramma. Because, while professing to have no preference at all, she secretly loves her some WL. And we haven’t been there since December 2005.

Within a few days of booking, I called WDW Dining to see what, if anything, we might get for a July 4th dinner…

Tea at the Grand Floridian? Nope.
Narcoosees? Nope.
Citrico’s? Nope.
Grand Flordian Café? Nope.
Kona Café? Nope.
Artist’s Point ? Yes! Clearly, we were meant to be at the WL.

And there you have it – how, only two weeks out, I planned a July 4th trip to Disney World!

But.

I’ve heard stories about July 4th visits. And I bet you have, too. Maybe you’ve even been one of the storytellers. Stories about crowds so thick a melted Mickey bar couldn’t fit between people. Stories about waiting three-ish weeks for a bus to show up. Stories about mean Cast Members, diminished food quality and disgruntled guests. Stories that could make the most ardent Disney fan run screaming to the nearest Six Flags park. (NO Soon-to-be-owners of Busch Gardens :scared: )

Just what would our July 4th story be????? :rolleyes1

:confused3 I've been so far behind in my TR reading that now I'm finally caught up, I have to wait for the rest of the story? Yea, I don't like waiting. But I will to hear how Disney in July, :rotfl2: turned out.

Although now you have me thinking that since DH is going to take a few days off when he comes home, maybe I should check out the rates for a relaxing day or two before he goes back to work. :rolleyes1 You are certainly developing the state's economy, V. :thumbsup2

I found your TR today and love it. The part about the panty liner was so gross yet so funny. I laughed so hard I had tears coming down my face. Thanks for the laugh. Can't wait to read more.

Yup. Money is an issue here too.

Now come on. Do I need to pull out the nude dude and remind you why we shouldn't do values???

Just what would our July 4th story be????? :rolleyes1

Ummmm...magical???

I'm curious to hear how it went since I will be finishing my trip over 4th of July weekend next year.
