Heard rumblings elsewhere that the Lights of Winter at Epcot are not mentioned on any current Press Releases and have not been moved to their "on deck circle" as they have in all previous years.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Lots of discussion on other boards about this (and surprisngly, not a single person has yet tried to "spin" this as somehow being a positive move). Even the pixie-dusted Disney-can-do-no-wrong crowd are upset, should this rumor prove accurate.

Is "Lights of Winter" the name of the big lighted arches just before the Christmas tree and World Showcase lagoon?

If so, I can't imagine Epcot without them for the holidays.

Yes, Lights of Winter are the arches leading towards the Christmas Tree.

Further, this rumor may be confirmed. Someone is reporting they called Disney, who stated that the Lights were "cancelled".

Well, isn't that just typical of the jack_ _ _es at Disney. Hey Iger, give your bonus back to the company to replace the lights. It is money that those clowns are concerned about, isn't it? :sad2:

DH and I end each night of our post-Thanksgiving 10-day trip with Illuminations and a casual walk around World Showcase to the music of Lights of Winter.

On our last trip to WDW we were greatly saddenned by the changes there and changed our post Thanksgiving pilgrimate to DL this year.

18 days from now we will be settling into the Villas at the Grand Californian. If this rumor is true, it will now be with absolutely NO regrets. Our Illuminations stroll was one of the BIGGIES we were going to miss in California.

It's all about $$$ Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls.....and what Disney can get away with.

Lets see how much $$$ Fellow Castmember Bob takes home in his year-end bonus and then we can talk about how warm and fuzzy we all feel about these changes to our experience.

Why do people blast Disney for cutting back on a $15,000 crap-holiday decoration when Disney just announced a $250 million expansion of Fantasyland? Is the glass always have empty in your world?

Also, I love it when people rip on Bob Iger and The Walt Disney Company, blast WDW and say they are so glad not to be going there, and then in the very same breath say they are taking a trip to Disneyland... which is owned by The Walt Disney Company and overseen by Bob Iger. It's like those who refused to upgrade to Windows Vista and put their foot down, saying they were sticking with XP... both of which are owned by Microsoft!!!

As for the Lights of Winter, I'm glad to see them go. They were a chintzy eyesore -- the kind you'd find at a local strip mall. They broke up a pleasant view of the Christmas tree when walking from FW to the WS, and not having them should open up the sightlines throughout that area which is a much greater result than mere lights flashing to music. That's what the Osbournes at DHS are for.

At some point, someone is going to have to explain to me why so many bashers waste their time on these boards. We already have a lot of darkness in the world, people. We don't need your hearts adding to the mix.

His whole post is funny..........and NOT funny Ha Ha.................:sad2::confused:
Tell me Condorman, at what point will you continue to pay ever increasing prices and get far far less from Disney and still be happy with the situation?:confused3
Or are your rose colored glasses just getting rosier..........................
Oh, and by the way, my heart is NOT dark, by any stretch of the imagination.
AND, correct me if I am wrong, we are still entitled to our opinion, no matter how dark you think they are, yes?

I have to giggle that people think Bob Iger has much at all to do with WDW or it's operations.

If you want to blast someone, blast Al Weiss.

Isn't Bob Iger technically the head of all things Disney?

I bet he has a thing or two to say to Fellow Castmember Al about his operating budgets!!

Heck - he certainly has plenty of input into my DH's annual budgets and he's much farther down the food chain.

I really hope that this is not true!! We love the Lights of Winter!! They are a beautiful addition to Epcot during the Holidays, and it would be very, very sad to see them go. :sad1:

You are so right.

We have beautiful pictures of the Lights of Winter and the Christmas tree at the end.

I actually found the CD with about half of the Lights of Winter music last season. We have been playing it in the car for about a month in preparation for our "Pilgrimage" to DL in 18 days. It's out of curculation but found it on Amazon.

Fingers crossed....hopefully this rumor is wrong for all those heading to WDW this holiday season.

Goodness I hope not! I am paying for a family member's trip with her family and really want them to experience the whole thing!

Yea, you can blast him as well.

For those folks that only read on the DIS, I invite you to join the effort that a few of us have going on on the Disney Parks Blog comment section in regards to the LoW. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2009/11/disney-parks-blog-weekly-recap-3/ At the bottom, there are currently about 72 guests that have voiced their displeasure with the looming possiblity of Epcot at the holidays without the LoW display. Please feel free to join in and keep this matter on the table even in a small way. If Disney really wants social media, then they are going to have to listen to their guest's comments and eventually say something of meaning in response.

If you feel the need to take issue with this through other routes, emails are good to voice your displeasure too, but as always, a well thought out letter is better.

It appears that the Orlando Sentinel is going to be looking into this matter and Disney may not be able to wish this away.

Honestly, does it cost THAT much to erect some lighted archways?

Yea Sentinel - they don't mind bringing the truth to light about Disney....good or bad.

I hope all of us who see the magic in the LIGHTS will not let Disney forget. I cannot imagine World Showcase at the holidays without the dancing lights. They are like balloons....have you ever noticed balloons always make people smile!

Over on another site, a CM is reporting that they were told at a staff meeting last night that there will be NO Lights of Winter. They are hoping to have entertainment at the Fountain instead. A local Gospel Choir will be performing 4 times a day. :sad1:

I am so sad, I think I might cry. No more lights? I already sent my email to Disney. As if they care, but if we don't tell them how we feel, they will never know.

Snail mail letters work better than emails, or so I'm told.

Disney has a poor record of reversing dumb decisions due to expressed guest dissatisfaction, unfortunately.

Mind sharing the name of the CD so we can hunt it down too :)
