Lights of Winter - EPCOT archway ??

That Twitter excuse is a BIG ,STEAMING LOAD...They can light up an entire castle but not the arches?and they think that a gospel choir is a suitable replacement? Come on Disney, we aren't that dumb

Ssshhhhhh! For the love of all things Disney, don't give the 'powers that be' any ideas. The Castle lights will probably be next!
Have to agree about a gospel choir....I love gospel music as much, maybe more, as the next person. But really??? As a replacement for one of the most beautiful lighting displays I've seen in a long time??? I think not.

I wonder if the Disney Blog board has met it's limit. I posted another blog on the board yesterday evenining & they have not placed it on the board. It has stopped at 158 comments, maybe they closed it???

Mine was after the 7:48 pm blog on 11/11 & it has not changed since then? Hmmm......... I guess they did not like what they were hearing from us???:santa::santa::santa:

Gee Wiz! Next they'll put a toll booth up at the bridge from Future World to World Showcase.

That is a very poor excuse, they can light an entire castle & can not come up with the technology to work the Lights of Wonder, that is bullsh...... Sorry, but I am really ticked!!
Then again, once you turn the lights on on the castle, they stay on. All of the color is done with color washes pointed at the castle.

For LOW, the lights are constantly changing, both color and sequence. Pair that with the WDW commitment to "being green" and utilizing technology that has a lesser effect on the environment, and it is possible that WDW simply has not yet found exactly what they need to refit the LOW arches in such a way that their "show" is not diminished.

I mean ... I can hear it now. WDW would announce that they are replacing all of the LOW lights with newer energy-efficient LEDs or something, and everyone would be all "Kudos to WDW for using less energy." Then, all those folks to go WDW and find that the LOW experience is different due to the limitations of the new technology, and it would be all, "I can't believe Disney changed the lights and made Lights of Winter so boring! It's not at all what it used to be. Who cares about a little more energy use? I want my LOW!!"

I can see Disney thinking, "We're not refitting this until we can do so with no impact to show."

Just a thought.

:earsboy:

Thank you for correcting that. Although the initial spin put out by "Cast in Bronze" led the reader to feel differently.
I have a feeling that Cast in Bronze was maybe hoping for a salary bump to return to WDW and didn't get it, so then other opportunities came up. I mean ... what would YOU rather do? Cart around those HUGE bells all over the country, or park them in one place for the holidays?

But it wasn't something Disney consciously "eliminated." The two sides just couldn't come to a deal.

Nice try - don't think many here will buy it, however.

Disney used to be the world leader in creating magic.....now they make Yeti's which don't work and Fantasmic Dragons with heads that fall off during rehearsals (disneyland).....oh yes, and Stitch shows which are stinkers.

Maybe they were simply worried they could no longer pull off the magic.

Isn't that exactly the point I just made?

Color me confused. :confused3

They have enough money to buy Marvel comics and not enough to light some Christmas lights? :confused3

Different buckets of money are used for different things.

It's like your kids saying to you, "You have enough money to buy a house, but not enough to get me an iPod?"

Wow. If Disney starts eliminating everything that's "old technology", we're in trouble. That old technology is often referred to as charm and tradition, none more so than Lights of Winter for my family.

They were close to eliminating it last year, so they've had a year to update anything they felt was old technology. That's just an excuse, they are cutting it out to save money, nothing more.

Just added my .02 of displeasure to the blog about the decision to remove LOW. It was promptly deleted. I then thanked them for deleting it...and guess what??:rotfl2: it was deleted even quicker!

To those who say tis is a cost cutting move, I don't disagree with you, but help me out here: What cost are you referring to? The cost of setting up the display? The electricity? Either way, it can't be that much.

It must be something else I'm missing, because otherwise I guarantee those costs were more than recouped by the Photopass guys stationed there. It was a hot spot for photos.

Yes and yes, I'm betting it's quite a bit more than you would imagine. The man hours just checking the bulbs, etc. has to be immense.

The official excuse isn't even believable.

I have the feeling that Disney had no clue how much we all loved the LOW.

It was my favorite holiday tradition at Epcot.

The customer should be heard...I just made my comment on the Disney blog as well.

I've drafted a snail mail letter to WDW Guest Communications which will be CCed to Robert Iger, James Rasudo, Meg Crofton, and Al Weiss. Not that I think any of it will do much good but it will certainly make me feel better!

I have the feeling they don't much care how much we all liked the LOW. It seems everything is about the bottom line lately. Quite disappointing!
