Lights of Winter - EPCOT archway ??

wow- this is unbelievable! I am shocked that Disney is offering an excuse that the technology is obsolete. And why did they say on the blog that there is a new experience & then not say what that new experience is??

You know what - my DVDs are obsolete (replaced with blu-ray), but I can still watch them.

This is beyond disappointing.

What next, get rid of the "snow" because it isn't close enough to the real thing?

And the excuse about not enough tech to support is a lie and a crock of you know what. There doesn't seem to be a problem with supporting the 5 bajollion lights used in the Osborne Lights.

Hey Disney, just get rid of the Candlelight Processional & the International Santas and the removal of anything holiday related from Epcot will be complete. :(

Nah, they'll keep the CP for the markup on the dinner packages. I'm wondering how long until they figure out a way to attach an add-on charge for the Osbourne lights...

The new experience seems to be a gospel group that will sing carols. Some "experience".

We go caroling around the holidays, but I don't use that as a replacement for Christmas lights or a tree!

Could the gospel group be a last minute replacement? Or something they were adding anyway that they now conveniently point to as evidence they aren't taking away...just changing? I think if we make enough noise about this...including the letter writing suggested by a previous poster...we might be able to bring it back for next year.

:sad2:

Write, email and complain, or they will simply say the guest response to the change was so positive it will stay.

As I wrote on the Disney Blog Board....If you asked me "off the cuff" to give you the biggest highlight that comes to mind when visiting Disney for the Holidays, I would quickly answer the Lights of Winter at Epcot.
There is nothing like it.
To just stand there,
Enveloped in the aura,
Not speaking.
Just listening.
Pure peace.
A Priceless experience.

As for the posted Disney "Corporate reason" for not having the lights, I'm not even going to justify it with a comment. I can see the real "light" when it comes to Disney Corporate.

Well we just decided that we are skipping what was going to be our Epcot day and instead spend our money off-site. It seems only right since Disney is not using they money they receive from increasing ticket prices every year to address "obsolete technology" until it's too late to do anything about it and THEN notify their guests. I think we will check out ICE at the Gaylord. It's far less expensive than a 1 day ticket at Disney, looks like fun and will put us in the holiday mood.

That is so true, if they can somehow make the Osbourne lights a hard ticket event they will. Just give them time!!!!!

I'm very disappointed about the LOW as I wanted my parents to see them for the first time. However, I have to say I am surprised at those saying they will be skipping Epcot because the LOW are not there. I could never skip Epcot as Illuminations alone is totally worth the price of a ticket for me (I'm there for six days so that makes the tickets only like 30-something dollars a day, but still). I'm also looking forward to hearing the group at the American Pavilion sing for the first time as I've only seen them on youtube and they sound fabulous. Then there is the fountain that dances to christmas music and spaceship earth and the living seas and soarin, and well....I guess I just really love Epcot whether its Christmas-ey or not. I like going in December not only because of the Christmas decorations but also because of the weather and the fact that its one of the value seasons which makes it much cheaper for me. So I will write and complain, but I for one will still be going. For those of you who wont be there, thats cool too...more room for me! :yay:

This is our first Christmas trip and the majority of the things I was looking forward to are gone. The Mickey's Night Before Christmas show, the Epcot lights. Everything is going up while the quality is going down. I am incredibly disappointed and feel like Disney is little by little eliminating the magic. After many trips I'm afraid this will probably be the last for awhile. If I could cancel I would because the excitement is gone.

Disney suits who decided this have lost their minds officially. Man every decision is worse and worse.

Add me to the list of the severely disappointed. If there were replacing it with an upgraded version of the LOW I'd buy it, but it doesn't seem like that is happening. The LOW were my favorite holiday decoration at the parks. When I used to work in Future World I started at them for hours every night. I was really looking forward to showing them to my family for the first time on our upcoming trip.

Just added my two cents to the Disney Blog.. I'm not happy about this change. I love the Lights of Winter. I'm glad we were able to get pictures there last December.

Just joined the Facebook group and left my comment about the lights. Hopefully Disney will listen to us...(Have they ever before?)

Just for the record, "Cast in Bronze" was not "eliminated." They received a better offer (a tour, part of which included opening for Mannheim Steamroller) and chose to take that gig instead of returning to Disney.

:earsboy:

Thank you for correcting that. Although the initial spin put out by "Cast in Bronze" led the reader to feel differently.

I too am very disappointed by the lose of the lights. This year is DD first trip during Christmas and this was one of the beautiful light displays I knew she would love.

That Twitter excuse is a BIG ,STEAMING LOAD...They can light up an entire castle but not the arches?and they think that a gospel choir is a suitable replacement? Come on Disney, we aren't that dumb
